Like maybe he was offered 5⁄100, but wanted two years of guaranteed at-bats (no bench/no platoon) to position himself for a better contract. He’s 26 now he’ll be two years older than Vlad Jr when he becomes a free agent (28) and look what he got
Yeah similarly to Ohtani’s original posting, the narrative about Murakami’s signing is getting exaggerated and will probably get worse if he keeps playing this well. He had decent offers but it wasn’t the 10 year probably 200m range that he was originally looking for. We don’t know the exact range but it was reported that he did get longer offers, probably something like you said. The other short term offers on playoff contenders wouldn’t guarantee him playing time which is essential for a short prove it deal. His manager used to play for the White Sox, they don’t mind signing him to flip for prospects, no pressure, guaranteed playing time, etc makes for a reasonable signing for him. But it’s already become nobody wanted to give him a chance.
Well, depending on how you read him, he wasn’t the best adapted to major league pitching, but he’d adapted to NPB pitching, so why couldn’t he learn?
