Austin Hedges talks about being more valuable than Shohei
Can’t wait to see him catch his own pitches. Take that, Shohei.
Ah, the Bugs Bunny method
Is that what we’re gonna call the rule for using the same guy at pitcher and catcher?
I don’t know what Austin’s sprint numbers look like, but with the kind of heat most position players are throwing it might be doable.
The problem isn’t straight line speed, it’s the agility to get back there and dodge a swinging bat.
Easy solve, he borrows Yamamoto’s sensei for a weekend and learns some sort of somersault move.
Griffey did it in the 90s.
Lmao don’t be ridiculous. Only one of the two men is a generational talent. Only one of them is a legend of the game. Only one of them has made me wake up in a cold sweat questioning my sexuality after dreaming of him. And the other is Shohei Ohtani
Careless Whisper sax riff intensifies
Wait what?!?
Careless Whispers is about homosexuality?
I thought it’s just regrets over not taking more initiative on a girl he liked?
It used to be Hedges walkup song…
Yeah, it’s about the one that got away
And how she went to someone else in his division
Best use of of this gif I’ve seen in a minute
I’ve seen Austin play catcher…. Can’t say the same thing about Shohei
Actual footage of Austin Hedges pitching and catching in the same game:
Catching? And pitching?
Lmao I love the highlight is a hard ripped line drive that just happened to be placed near the outfielder
Hedges let the batter hit the ball where Hedges wanted it go.
I hear no lies, upvote.
Well clearly the only thing that can happen now is we pair him WITH Shohei. If he’s worth 700m hedges will end up costing 800
Appreciate you trading Shohei to us big dawg
Well he’s clearly overrated so we won’t miss him.
Rangers legend
I meannnnnn. I didn’t hear any lies…
He can catch too
This is a man who bunted a home run, I believe him.
I always find it odd when people and in this case a player, says Shohei doesn’t play defense. Pitchers play defense! Sure, they only defend on games they pitch, but pitchers field often and Shohei is outstanding at fielding and often runs to base himself to get the outs.
He also offered to play outfield last year apparently if there was an issue with being a DH in the World Series (I have no idea what that issue would be).
Yeah I don’t think Shohei minds at all. He loves the game of baseball and always wants to play. It’s the managers that step in and put their foots down for his own safety which is probably the right thing to do, gotta protect players from themselves sometimes.
For sure, when he hurt his arm again before leaving the Angels, he was reporting arm numbness for awhile before he got hurt. He should have stopped pitching for a bit, but he wanted to keep pushing.
I only imagine the Angels didn’t step in because they knew he was going to leave anyways. Seems malicious to me, but who knows why they didn’t stop him from pitching.
Yep, he had cramping too the week prior, still let him hit the next game that afternoon right after throwing almost 120 pitches in a complete game effort. His body clearly needed rest, but the team was shallow in depth, they needed him to play every game to try to make the playoffs. LAA was just a terrible organization from top to bottom.
Oh god, the Padres fans who hate Hedgy are fuming right now.
How can you hate hedgy?
I have no fucking idea. He’s sucks with a bat in his hands, I guess?
He’s a vibe guy, I don’t know why you had any expectations for his bat lmaoo.
Rangers legend in my opinion
He should be a Padres legend, but we got Clevinger for him and people couldn’t stand that he couldn’t hit. That, and we never won a World Series, with or without him.
But yes, Rangers and Guardians legend imo.
Padres legend with a 0.2 WAR, .199 BA, .257 OBP, .616 OPS and 146 RBIs in 6 years. Time to raise the bar on the term legend
See, I told you these guys exist.
ETA: Oh hai there u/GarageJitsu how are you today?
Great day in SD just trying to figure out what the bar is for a Padre legend because those numbers don’t exist with any other legend. Rangers legend I get it, Padre legend is laughable. Great idea would be taking this debate to the Padre sub. The legend Austin Hedges I’m sure will get a good laugh
To be honest I’m just kind of messing with you at this point.
Actually now that I think about it, let’s take this to the Padres up. Go ask them what they think.
Ok that’s relief to hear you’re just messing around. Since it’s your opinion I’ll keep an eye out for Austin Hedges Legend debate
.250 batting average right now 🔥 best I’ve ever seen hedgy hit. We’re also undefeated when he’s catching.
His Pitch Com “Fuck Yeah.” Story is one of my all time favorite baseball stories. Hedges is hilarious.
He really is the ultimate vibes guy. He got a sword on a team trip to medieval times in spring training and has been knighting someone with it after each game this year lol.
Man I loved Hedgy. I know his bat sucked but his vibes and that beard and that walk up song…mmm
Me too Compadre.
Damn why did I think dugout discussions was always in person and in the dugout. That’s disappointing:(
This was the first time I can remember it being this way - I assume he couldn’t schedule anything/Hedges jumped in to cover.
World series champion
That FRAUD Austin Hedges is only thriving because Kike Hernandez is too hurt to play 8 positions and pitch at the moment
Hedges is chill as fuck I guess I love him now
Hedges has like 6.0 wins above his replacement already this year.
Cleveland
But is he more valuable than Daulton Rushing?
[deleted]
Man I miss Hedgie
Austin Hedges can hit ?
He’s hitting a lot better this year than he has but I mean… the bar is very low lol
Ya anything over .200 and a 0 WAR is a pretty good season for him
I am a fan of this dude now ha.
This is funny and all but I’m pretty tired of Chris Rose’s schtick of hyping up literally everyone and everything
Well that’s certainly a take.
I like Hedges but this is the same guy who argued Clase was better than Mariano on the same show
So he kinda talks a lot of nonsense when he’s with Chris Rose
Do you seriously not see that they’re joking?!
Hedges is clearly holding back laughter through half of the clip…
Hmmm best baseball player of all time or a utility-guy? Which is more valuable? Tough one
Come on now, Shohei is better than just a utility-guy
Bro thinks way too highly of himself.
It ain’t serious
If there’s anybody in MLB who doesn’t take himself too seriously it’s Austin Hedges.
Next time we’ll all make sure to write JOKE in big capital letters before every post for you, buddy
