I do not like the Molten Vault Map
At least remove the closed doors. thanks.
Nobody does
They’re decent for expeditions
Nooooo, the pathing for explosives is far too restrictive!
the expeditions on that map are always in one room. i target farmed the map in 0.4 week1. its the best expo layout, because its the only map where you can guarantee to hit all chests and runic monsters with the available bombs.
We got a hot take over here guys
“hot” ahahah!
i’m bold like that
Real hot take is that I like molten vault
The horrendous tight corridor layouts of more than half of the maps is one of the reasons I dislike the PoE2 end-game. PoE1 has maps like that too but at least there you can pick which maps you want to run, so you just ignore the garbage layouts for the whole league. Every time I realize I need to run a Mire / Molten Vault to get to somewhere, I lose motivation to play.
There are a few good maps that aren’t open but still fun to play, such as Epitaph and Slick. They are also mostly corridors / hallways but those areas are wide enough so that you can actually move and dodge stuff and have space to cast/attack properly. On Mire the corridors are so tight you can’t even cast spark or get minions through it, it’s ridiculous, like how does something like that get through the design process? And now that the tilesets have been made it’s unlikely they’ll ever get changed..
Yeah i totally agree.. we play games to have fun and chill. Not running thru labyrinths that loves making u back-tracked all the time (i understand there are checkpoints but its still annoying most of the time).
It’s almost as if the game is trying to force us to not be able to enjoy the game.
At the very least there should be a minimum width that the designers should stick to. Every single corridor should be wide enough to allow for some sideways movement. Wide enough to properly spawn large mobs (yesterday one of those huge deformed skellie mobs that crawls on the floor spawned partially stuck inside a tree in the Bloodwood map and became unkillable). Wide enough to be able to place shield walls, to cast sparks so that they bounce around instead of remaining stuck in one spot, for minions to have space for pathfinding etc.
I wouldn’t bet on that last statement.
I mean Vaal Factory did get changed into The Assembly, a much superior design, among a few other maps.
Why Molten Vault and Mire remained, I have no idea, but there’s hope.
Also with the current endgame design there’s little reason to not skip these maps (by using a grand project on every tower), but I do hate when they show up on cleansed areas and wish there was a better solution.
I’m hoping the end game rework gives us true map agency.
Just throw a t1 waystone in with no tablets and run straight to the boss. I know it sucks and you still have to play it, but don’t torture yourself by running it fully juiced t15/16 like the good layouts.
And also, grand spectrum every single tower, just hop over the garbage.
Just throw a t1 waystone in with no tablets and run straight to the boss.
This is just shit game design. You shouldn’t be forced to do unrewarding pointless content to get to the stuff you want to do. There’s a few instances of this in the end game loop and it’s rough.
I mean we all know this isn’t the final design, it was a rushed placeholder. Just blasting through the bad maps in 30 seconds with a t1 waystone isn’t anything to throw a fit over, just blast to the boss and move on.
Kills the vibe for me. Hopefully the end game rework is a success 👍
It’s the example I use when I explain to my friends why I don’t like PoE2 (yet). My number 1 issue preventing me from enjoying PoE2 more than PoE1 is the percentage of time I’m in a map layout that I don’t enjoy being in.
Combat in this game is great. Graphics are stunning. The character progression is fun. I like most of the league mechanics. I like the chase for some particularly valuable rewards.
…but I cannot stand the map layouts.
I know that one day I’ll like PoE2 more than PoE1 but that issue has to be fixed before that can happen. I hate the implementation of the infinite atlas and I hate 90% of map layouts.
I know that one day I’ll like PoE2 more than PoE1
What makes you think this?
I just have no doubt that GGG will eventually make PoE2 better than PoE1. It has better graphics and employee resources being spent on it. GGG has proven to me that they will make their games gradually better over time.
Graphics are like completely unimportant to me so that doesn’t even factor in. Yeah GGG are great at iterating it’s probably their best quality being able to adapt to what the player base wants. They’ve just got a different ‘vision’ for the second game that’s more focus on game play over builds and systems. I’m not sure I’m able to explain myself well but hopefully you get the gist of what I mean. POE 1 is like a build sandbox where as POE 2 is very much on rails. Everything you do with the build the developers intend.
The game has gotten better since 0.1 for sure. Adding crafting was huge and Abyss was a really fun league.
Sun Temple says hi
So much this for me
I don’t like the poison swamp in DS3
I applaud your bravery for admitting that.
Tbh DS3 is a blur to me but I hate the poison underground in DS1
Maps like that are only fun when you have a slow killing build where you want to limit the amount of enemies rushing at you. (As was the original design intent)
WIth mass killing “I have no clue what’s happening” engame the doors are sadly pointless and just a nuisance.
I still with for less mess and more deliberate gameplay in the endgame.
Thx for the info
Hopefully you are a dev and consider reworking the map.
Yes i already informed jonathan that the 0.5 will include Molten Vault rework
Next up: sun temple is not fun!
I do not like any Vaal maps at all.
Yah i’m the guy who always says I like map variety even when some are better than others and I don’t want the boring 1 map meta of poe1…
but screw Molten Vault holy crap is that map just bad.
If you want to run all different maps in POE 1 you can
There’s always an option to do suboptimal things in anything but it’s not really a good argument for it
I just don’t understand why anyone would want to run loads of bad layouts half of which gimp whatever league mechanic you’re running.
Also, they could do something like the memory threads in POE 1 where you get juicy altars and different bosses if you run different layouts
I don’t get why anyone would want to do maps at all. It would be better if divine orbs just appeared in my inventory and I can make whatever items I want. But the more streamlined and homogonous the game becomes the less time I’d spend in each league before getting bored.
I hate the boss on my melee characters
do you run a fire build? a soon you are lvl 40 you try to avoid it
Its probably the worst map, purely because mechanics like abyss and breach hardly spawn even if you have tablets or them
I don’t like a good 70% of the maps
molten vault is absolutely cracked for expedition specifically because it has the closed doors. it has a place in the game, its just annoying because of how the atlas forces you to do a lot of undesired maps.
I think I dislike sun temple more than
It’s actually a pretty decent map once you get used to it. Drops feel consistent, mob density is solid so it’s good for farming. Mechanics are straightforward, mostly just fire damage and ground effects, nothing too complicated. Good for practicing movement, since you can’t just stand still and tank everything. Kind of a build check — if your fire res or sustain is bad, you’ll feel it immediately. Once your defenses are sorted, it becomes a pretty smooth and efficient map to run. Early on it can feel rough, but later it’s actually one of those maps you don’t mind seeing.
ok
Anyone in this sub who plays D4 would know the struggle lol. There are multiple maps with closed doors and god knows why.
I was spoiled with Marvel Heroes Omega. They knew what they were doing in every way and made sure no maps had bs closed doors
MHO was awesome. Too bad they couldn’t keep it running with all the lawsuit issues (may have been other things as well, but I remember that being the tipping point).
