Generelly i only have a few hours to play a week. So its the first time i cooked up a build myself which i can comfortably farm the most stuff the game throws in my way. Im playing SSF.

So i wanted to go for endbosses the first time in PoE2 but i cant find a single damn citadel. I have seen them in the past leagues but never interacted with them so i kinda know how they look.

Is there a trick to it or just zoom and luck?

Chose a direction and go towards it. There is a minimum radius centered in the beginning of your atlas that it cannot spawn, so pick a direction and go far from the center.

Citadels also spawn in clusters, so if you find one, the other 2 will be in close proximity.

I found my first yesterday after starting the game a week ago, I couldn’t see any light beacons until I just went in a straight line for a little while then they started to appear

Make sure you have the quests in your quest list. If you don’t, you need to travel to the Burning Monolith to initiate them.

This past league, I forgot to do that and did soooooo many maps w/o a citidel. Then went to burning monolith and got dozens quickly.

That’s a myth. You were just unlucky. The quest is not needed nor beneficial, at least there is no data I’ve seen to back that up.

I’ve never went to the monolith before doing Arbiter, and I’ve found a lot of citadels before that.

I dunno if there is a specific trick, but they do have a beacon that goes up, so you can see it through the fog. Your best bet is to just pick on direction and hope for the best. Usually for me when I find one there are more near it.

Just pick a direction and stick with it. Took me about 7 screens away from start to find my first cluster (idk if that’s lucky or just average). Heard of people going 15-20 screens without seeing one.

Tip of how to speed up process: stock up on grand project tablets (if you got the $$, if not do expedition or asc 4 chaos trials since splinters and fates are currently very overpriced on the exchange), and zoom from tower to tower in a direction. It’s much faster than going map to map and you can always return to complete content you want after you find the citadels.

EDIT: Nvm I missed that ur SSF, sorry. Get atlas nodes for tablet drop rates and pray to rngesus for GPs. Leaving the OG tip in case it helps someone.

Further you go from start, he more they spawn, and they spawn in clusters so if you get one, you have multiple nearby

Go in a straight line. I did not know this and was clearing maps in a circle around the start and it took forever to find one

Use the unique precursor tablet “the grand project” on every tower you come across. It lets you access every map that is in viewing range of the tower. Sometimes another tower is accessible directly from the last one. Just use another grand project with it and keep on tower hopping. This will greatly improve your speed through the atlas and you’ll see a lot of citadels this way, and you also won’t have to path to those citadels if they are in the range of the tower affected by the grand project.

Grand projects are about 20 Vaal on the trade website rn
