I cannot believe Boylen got an NBA job after what he did to Utah’s college team. The University of Utah had been one of the premier mid-major jobs (reached the national championship game in 1998 and had the #1 pick in 2005) and Boylen got the job at the perfect opportunity with the Utes joining the PAC-12.

He destroyed the program so thoroughly that Utah is now clearly the #3 program in the state at best and hasn’t made the tournament in like a decade. I don’t even think they’ve produced an NBA player since Kuzma.

And then after all that, Reinsdorf thought it would be a good idea to hire him as an NBA head coach.

Well he didn’t have a shit roster in OKC and he wasn’t great. 

Yep, I was fairly happy with him in OKC, but was slightly more happy when they moved on

It was such a strange hire. In OKC he was great at building around superstars but never struck me as a good schematic guy. Which worked ok when he had a couple MVP contenders on his team but is a bad fit for a roster of young players, borderline all-stars, and veteran rotation guys.

Hand in hand, my friend. Great coaches develop talent. That guy you thought was JAG all of a sudden becomes an important piece in what you do.

His NBA buyout is only $2m. There’s been rumors of us (Florida) trying to extend him again since the season ended but there’s been nothing yet. There’s a very real risk he goes to GSW if they offer him because he loved and worked in SF and has a relationship with the GM.

In terms of not terrorizing the women of the university, seems like Billy would be a big upgrade though.

I think Donovan is actually a really good coach. It’s the Bulls’ stupid roster construction that was the issue. With the Kings that shouldn’t be a… Oh wait nevermind.

He’s already failed as an exec(although a lot of that had to do with Sarver being cheap).
