For a color commentator, Scal is very informative compared to those of other teams. He is also relatively fair when commenting on foul calls, doesn’t go all homer simply because he works for NBC Boston.

I am glad it is recognized and he is getting a shot at national commentary, even if probably limited to the 1st round.

I actually like that Scal has begun educating fans more, calling out specific types of screens, spanish pick and roll, horns action etc.

Agred. He’s been doing this for a while, and exactly what I’ve enjoyed about him. If I’m choosing to listen to the broadcast at all, I don’t necessarily need to hear what I already know, rather his insight into specific plays, how coaches or players see those plays (eg “I’d keep running it until they can defend it”) matchups they pick on….recently he’s been on a kick of looking at the first play and deriving specific mindsets that a coach may have. Good stuff and worth listening to.

Bro I was doing exact same thing! kept thinking wait is that really Scal or am I just hearing things. His voice is pretty distinctive but when he’s calling non-celtics games it throws you off for minute. Good to know I wasn’t going crazy lol.

Do you feel like he’s normally a homer? I mean, he works for the Celtics broadcast team, but I feel like he’s always VERY willing to call out our players for fouls, etc.
I feel like he’s a lot LESS of a homer than I hear on most other broadcasts.

He’s a homer in that he enjoys the C’s success and roots for them, at least on the broadcast. But he calls fouls fairly and will compliment or even fanboy over opposing players. I think he’s objectively fair (as much a local color guy can ever be).

I think they already have. He does the Nickelodeon football and some other stuff, I think. But the C’s gig is good enough that I think he keeps it, too. A lot of the national guys also have a local job.
