Obviously he’s ridiculous on defence and having him on the court completely alters how teams play, but is his defensive skills ACTUALLY some of the best ever or is it just because he’s insanely tall, agile and long ass arms? I’m only asking because i dont watch him regularly. I’m not saying he lacks anything i just dont know. Like how’s his footwork, positioning, rotations, IQ etc.

He just won an award. He will probably be the greatest ever, but he doesn’t have to guard the like of Shaq, Wilt and Kareem.

He better 3peat before they get bored.

He is fine for now, but I feel like for most great players, even the non-controversial ones, people eventually turn on them at some point.

I think there are only a few exceptions I can think of…Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon and for those guys people still found ways to hate them (too boring).

I dont see it. As long as Wemby is healthy he is pretty much winning it every year.

I feel like unanimous awards should be more common.

Between 2009 and 2016 for example, 7 of the 8 MVPs received at least 92% of possible votes and 6 of them were above 97%. There are a lot of years where it’s pretty obvious who the MVP/DPOY/ROY/etc is, voters just like to be different. 

I’m still salty that Shaq in 2000 and LeBron in 2013 didn’t win unanimous MVP. The worst part is that the players who got those lone votes didn’t even finish second those years.

Let’s be fr no one had any MVP argument over 16 Curry, 13 Bron, and 00 Shaq

Not even close. In the year Hakeem won both MVP and DPOY, he won DPOY by only a single vote over David Robinson. In his other DPOY year, both David Robinson and Michael Jordan existed.

Ben Wallace 2002 was the closest to unanimous with ¹¹⁶⁄₁₂₀.

You sound really bitter, just because he is tall. There are others over 7ft who still can’t impact the defensive end like he can (and this is coming from a fan of Tingus Pingus).

So why does he have double the BPG of Zach Edey? (and still close to double per 36).

Why have none of the other super-tall players since Mark Eaton been good defenders? (And really other than Manute Bol who was a great shot blocker, and Yao who was good, but not great in the post, the rest have all been negative defenders).

It is such a weak argument to put it down to his height. Even moreso when you watch a single NBA game and see how often players avoid coming anywhere near the lane when he is down there.

Its like saying Jordan or Lebron only became goat level players because of their physical attributes: sure it helped, but plenty of other players come close physically. None combined that with their level of work ethic and motivation to win.

He does a lot more than just stand there and wait for a guy to come for him.

Look at that list and you’ll see that most of the tallest NBA players in history were actually bad at blocking shots. Only Manute Bol and Mark Eaton are competitive with Wemby’s BPG.
