This has been talked about billion times, he lost 1 to Rose because of narratives and going to Miami. Outside of that, KD, Steph, Westbrook, Harden all had better regular seasons than him when they won their MVPs, sometimes he wasn’t even 2nd best. Giannis, Joker, Embiid and Shai were also far better post 2017 (outside of 2020, he had a chance then, but I’d still take Giannis).

Yes, he was unanimously the best player in the world 2008-18, but he didn’t have the best regular seasons campaigns. I mean feel free to argue how he deserved an MVP, over Steph or KD especially, I personally don’t see it.

It’s like that in most (all?) sports. How many MVPs you think Brady has? How many does the all time leader have in the NFL and did he play at the exact same time Brady did? Hint: yes.

Wemby is probably the most universally liked superstar in the league today. Obviously that can change with time but I think a lot of voters/media/fans are genuinely rooting for him and want to see him accomplish crazy things. Ben was great but he didn’t have that same benefit of being anointed as the next GOAT

Mobley played 25 games more than him. Providing value on a regular basis is hugely important for end of season awards and for being recognized. Wemby was the best defender when he played, but that does not mean he was DPOY which is intended to reward a full season of performance.

He’ll get his fair share if he stays healthy, which hopefully will be the case.
