Maby you know this but Gladiator replaces Duelist in POE2.
I mean, the in game spirit gemcutting window calls him duelist still, while the official webpage calls him gladiator. So chances are they still haven’t fully decided or one of the names is left over from an old build of the game.
There’s two characters per stat combo. Maybe there’s going to be a Duelist and a Gladiator.

The fact that they are comfortable hinting at this, makes me think that they want us to expect gladiator. And they are gonna reveal gladiator first, then surprise us with “oh and one more thing..” And boom another class!. 2 new classes incoming confirmed 100%!
As crazy as this would be for other games, I think this is actually plausible. They made it pretty clear Druid taking so long was very much a unique case. I think two classes together every few leagues is plausible.
In true GGG fashion they’ll reveal one and give us a small blurb at the end of some patch note revealing a second class before the actual release. Like it’s no big deal.

Considering 1.0 is supposed to be 2027, at some point we’ll need multiple classes released with how long it’s taking them to make leagues.
Well they have been dropping roughly 1 class+ 3-5 subclasses for both the released class, and two other…
given we lack… 1 Huntress/Monk/Ranger/Druid missing currently… the next release will no doubt be Class+two of it’s ascensions… and they have 4-5 classes left… if they are doing two classes at a time… every 6 months that’s extremely doable
They are only missing 4 classes. Marauder, Duelist, Shadow, and Templar. There are also like 16-18 Acendancies missing total. If they released 2 classes with this update (which would be crazy) and 4-5 new acendancies they would be on pace for a December launch of 1.0. Definitely doable. Got my fingers crossed.
They’ve never released 2 classes at a time yet, but yeah there’s what? 2 shadow classes missing, templar, gladiator 1 witch class and 1 sorceress class?
So we have 6 classes left 18 ascendancies for them, plus the ascendancies were currently missing.
It’s quite a lot for potentially 3-4 more updates.

Duelist will no doubt have a Dual wielding Ascension, I’m hoping for a ‘swashbuckler… that leans into the parry shield as a mechanic
Marauder will likely have a Rage themed Ascension
Dagger will probably bring some new ‘poison/physical spells’
Templar will be Flail, probably with channeling moves, and will have some sort of minion concept dealing with(but not limited to) Sentinels… and Links
1.0 will be December. ExileCon will be the announcement and they will drop it to 1.0 before Christmas.

Agree but it’s not like the entire team is going to be working on the same thing. Their art & animation team isn’t going to work on end-game logic for example.
They most likely are working on class design & dev in tandem with gameplay features.
I’ve said this before, but also, I highly doubt GGG works linearly in terms of making new classes, so it’s not like they finish druid and then make duellist from scratch.
I’d imagine the remaining classes are pretty close to completion, just need balancing, animations, a bit more polishing, etc.
you know i was being pessimistic thinking theres no way we getting a new class when they reworking the whole end game, but like you are right, its not like the people working on classes are going to stop that to work on end game, i mean sure the modellers will prob have to get on doing whatever new bosses we gonna get, but yeah i think its reasonable they might have the time for a new class.
maybe they’ve somehow figured out the secret sauce technology that will allow melee to move while attacking…
it’s literally the only game in the history of games where casters and ranged are more mobile and tactile than melee classes because I have to sit still and cast spells as melee, while casters literally just zoom across the map attacking while moving… make it make sense….
They delay things to polish content and not release broken updates. Be happy things get delayed when they do!

I’m not even convinced daggers will be in once all characters are released, honestly - maybe much later if they start adding more base types down the line. If they stick with one weapon type being associated with each class, claws feel like they have a much more distinct design space than daggers do for Shadow. Plus it looks like traps will be their own weapon type in PoE2 so they may already be making an exception and doubling up
Claws feel like they might be more of a Monk weapon, and the Shadow getting Daggers and Traps. Will be intersting to see how they handle that section of the tree.

Well, after 5 months they better add a new class along wort the end game overhaul.
I’m quite sure act 5+6 is reserved for 1.0 release, and considering alot of the work on the end game rework was done last year already, getting a new class is not such a far fetch.

Definitely. Dueliat and swords were already mentioned, gladiator makes perfect sense. They also mentioned shadow, so shadow and daggers are hopefully coming as well, but two classes in one patch might be wishful thinking.

If swords are coming then the majority of people are going to play Swords. Without a large re balance of the bottom of the tree specifically to armour and/or evasion without ES and some other defensive layers like fortify coming its going to be a disaster because IMO they are simply not up to snuff. Did they have time to significantly re balance defenses and add a new class, and add a new weapon, and rework the whole endgame?

Offhand nets could actually be an awesome addition which will help a lot against rushing enemies when you are melee.

There is data for all the missing classes hidden in the game, such as bases for Claws, Daggers, Traps, Swords, Axes and Flails. I guess they work on them all at once and push for a final touch when they need to release a class.
Also in order to not mess up the loot pool when they do release, they still technically drop from enemies right now, they just get converted into gold when they do. That way once swords release you won’t start seeing fewer bows, talismans, etc. & all they need to do is bump gold drop rates appropriately.
Items dropping corrupted in Trials of Chaos had a bugged interaction with this in the first few patches, which is why there were a few cases of (unusable) swords & traps dropping for people during the first few patches. I think you can still find some on the trade site if you’re in Standard

THO if swords are added there will be quite a few ‘spell sword’ options coming with it… as the passive tree suggests such…
so Duelist kind of has it’s ascensions already spelled out (to a certain degree)… at least two of them
Gladiator more or less returning from PoE1 dual wielding/bleed/stance changing and a ‘spell sword’ ascension probably using stuff like Elemental Hit/Wild Strike… NOT unlike the current Huntress Ascension Amazon with it’s Mystic Harvest/Elemental Infusion…

Yes you’re right. It could be just a coincidence. But picture this: you are the head community manager, and your job is to keep tabs on the community. There is a very great chance Kelly knows that the community is expecting swords this patch. And having inside knowledge from GGG it would be a very good chance that Kelly ought to be aware what kind of effect this particular meme would have at this specific time.
The official website lists it as Gladiator, not Duelist. But who knows, maybe they haven’t decided yet.
Gladiator was a Duelist subclass in PoE1, game files suggest ‘for some reason’ that Galdiator is what they are naming Duelist for PoE2… instead of Duelist…
Shadow is also supposedly renamed to Assassin… which was a subclass in PoE1…
Interesting, a little odd and confusing if you play both games, but not the end of the world.
I believe it’s just the mislabel on file name, but since they ‘split’ classes… they may think Gladiator helps to seperate from Merc?
