Derrick White: “I played 3 playoff games last year without you, I didn’t like that.” Jayson Tatum replies: “Don’t get used to that. I’m back.”

IF WE WANT TO WIN, ITS ON US 😫
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!!”
Lmaooo
Pan to Mazzulla with the cold stare of a serial killer as he explains how wolves are actually the ideal pet if you teach them that you’re the alpha of the pack, drawing a big wolf on the whiteboard.
Pan back to Tatum: “I mean he’s right about the basketball stuff”

Right? I came to this thread to see if people were talking about how poorly scripted/forced this quote sounds
That’s so corny haha
I got you
Besties 🥺
I thought he went down when they were already down 3-1?
He went down in game 4. Game 5 Kornet has the game of his career. Knicks took it in 6
Also Tatum missed game 2 against Orlando in the first round
Funny how memory works, cuz I don’t remember the Celtics winning a game after that haha
He missed a game against Orlando in round 1 when they injured Tatum’s wrist
He went down in game 4 when they were down 2-1 in the series. They were down 9. Knicks won in 6, so the last part of game 4 and then games 5 and 6.
basically. knicks were carrying momentum (and a lead) with 2:58 left in the 4th when he went down
Second besties according to tatum

Al isn’t on the team now. Though tomorrow at 10am we find out if Derrick is his favorite teammate. The podcast posted a funny suspenseful trailer with this question lol
Nice wholesome soundbite between two besties… who go on to partake in violently dogwalking the Sixers in Game 1 lol
Still can’t believe Tatum is back to playing at this level basically 10 months after the Achilles injury. Really happy to see him back, and makes me hopeful that Hali comes back strong next season too.
Hali still needs to get over his shingles before he can play in game I imagine. It’s been months I’m hoping it’s better by training camp.
I don’t know when it started, but Shingles typically just lasts 3-5 weeks.
It is hell for those weeks and the worst effects are on a specific part of your body. My mom had it and I helped her through it, but afterwards she had no linger symptoms. The main thing is that it will be a set back for his conditioning work, but no reason to expect that it will derail him for next season at this point.
It could also be indicative of stress. Stress is the first trigger they will go over when you go in to be diagnosed. So he might be dealing with everything mentally still as well. Probably the guy who would benefit most from a great sports psychologist in the league.
Edit: My anecdotal experience caring for someone with Shingles and what a doctor told me while taking them for appointments should be taken with a grain of salt since a nurse practitioner replied with different info.
I’m a healthcare professional (nurse practitioner). Shingles can cause long-term effects - most particularly postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain from the virus that causes shingles). This is why vaccination is recommended - not really to prevent the shingles, but moreso to prevent the long-term complications.
If Haliburton says he has tried multiple medications without much improvement, this is a more serious case. As far as I know, the evidence on reliable treatments is still fairly low. Hopefully things work out on his favor though.
IIRC he had it on his face which I understand can have some serious potential long term consequences.
I had it last summer on the side of my torso and it was horrible. It started as a deep pain that I thought was a pulled muscle or something but it got worse as it worked its way towards my skin. It didn’t totally clear up for a month and a half and I was miserable the whole time.
Yes, absolutely. Actually we were taught that if it’s on the face, one should see an ophthalmologist, as it can actually cause vision problems and potentially blindness (I actually took care of a patient that had that misdiagnosed after multiple visits to the ER, and actually caused blindness - that patient was in the nursing home, but that case stuck with me for a while). I assume Hali’s medical staff already took care of that, I’m glad all he lost was an eyebrow, and seems to be the vision is doing well.
90% of cases end pretty okay. Some pain for 1-2 weeks, then gets better. 10% develop long-term complications, and again, we don’t know how long it’ll last.
Come to think of it, as Haliburton is pretty young, he probably had a pretty aggressive immune response to the virus - potentially contributing to what he’s experiencing now. But I’m not a nerve specialist - I know he’s seeing the best doctors and I hope things work out for him before next season.
I had a similar experience, it was the worst few weeks of my life. The rash wrapped around torso back to front. Ended up with some nerve pain for a while too. Now I just feel tingling where I had it that flares up every once in a while. Wouldn’t be surprised if Hali has to deal with it for a while.
Dude got better after one of the most career altering injuries in sports lmfao it doesn’t make sense
The anomaly
Shout out to modern medicine. 20 years ago it’s probably career ending
dark Celtics magic sacrificed Porzingis (why do you think he has the most mysterious injuries) to get Tatum healthy in record time
Sacrificed the Unicorn so that we could have the Corn
Yeah and I admit I’m still nervous when I watch him jump or plant and change direction lol. It’s hard to accept that he didn’t rush back, even though I am definitely not a doctor and have no clue how the rehab process works for a professional athlete with a serious injury. Alex Smith had a gruesome injury requiring multiple surgeries to save his leg and he came back for one more season of football, so what the hell do I know lol.
I also don’t know the full extent of Luka’s injury, but given it’s a hamstring issue I hope he doesn’t rush back and then be at risk for something like an Achilles tear. You never want to see things like that happen but I realize sometimes it’s just part of the game. These dudes go hard all the time.
Tatum wouldn’t be here without hard work and a love for basketball. Good guy to root for
Obviously I’m biased being a Celtics fan but yeah, hard to root against Tatum even if you want to see the Celtics lose.
He’s nuclear levels of corny but that’s really about it
It’s wild to me that people complain about Tatum being corny when towns exists
I was hopeful he’d still be an all-nba player but fully thought he couldn’t make it back to being a top 5 player. Took all of 1 game to show he would make it back to that point, just needed to shake some rust off and get his stamina back.
Unreal doc work, unreal genetics.
Is he? I truly have no idea but that’s good to hear. I’m a Lakers fan so I’m biased against the Celtics but Tatum seems like a great basketball talent and person. Easy to hate on his corniness but it’s also kind of “aw shucks” lovable too.
Still, never want to see any injuries impact great players (or even - begrudgingly - good franchises).
ok this is good stuff.
I’ve always enjoyed Boston as the bad guy - but this team is too hard to root against.
Boston is a “bad guy” city in sports, but the Celtics have generally been an excellent organization at all levels (management, coaching, etc.) for almost a decade. Since drafting Tatum, at least.
Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Brad Stephens are almost certainly going to be in the Hall of Fame one day and I don’t think that’s a particularly controversial statement.
for almost a decade
A bit longer than that. We missed the playoffs once between the KG era and IT. That’s 18 of the past 19 seasons.
I think there were stretches before that when we were pretty good too:)
Please direct all your hate to the Boston Red Sox, they deserve it!
I root for Boston sports because fuck the y**kees
Me too🫡
Still should’ve fired their entire Medical team after how dirty they did Isiah Thomas and then trading him, never forgive or forget.
They did. Maybe not literally fired, but quietly rehauled the entire medical staff.
Celtics aren’t the bad guys tbf. Their fans is what make them so hated.
Tbf, I say this about every NBA team I dislike.
True… but y’all are especially egregious.
Mfs are really out here acting like they personally played in every championship y’all won.
knicks fan saying this is egregious, yall still hung up on those two seventies rings
This is exactly what I mean 😂
Are you talking about the use of “we”? I don’t do it, but I don’t mind it. Synecdoche isn’t meant to be taken literally; it’s a figure of speech.
Lmao bro, what are you on about?
They mean when you use “we” as in “we won that game decisively” when you’re not on the team but as a fan. Every fan of their team does this.
Lmao, so they took my figurative language literally and tried to flip it into me not understanding figurative language… Bruh.
That’s what had me confused 😂
Clearly, I wasn’t talking about someone just saying “we won” or “we beat your team” etc.
Weren’t Knicks fans physically attacking/harassing people outside the Garden last year? I mean, come on. That’s far worse behavior.
Are you saying Celtics fans don’t do that…? Because… 🤨
There’s also a reason y’all are know for being racist. Shit, your own player(s) came out and said such…
I mean, no, I don’t recall any recent news stories of Celtics fans assaulting people, no.
Current day NYPD is a far more impactfully racist institution than anything in Boston, but go off with your tired talking points. Glad you feel comfortable using the suffering of black people as a tool in an internet argument though, really showing how classy that fanbase is!
As a Celtics fan, everytime I see mark wahlberg in the stands I let out an audible “for fuck’s sake.” Other teams have like Jack Nicholson or Prince as their celebrity stand ins. We have “9-11 would’ve gone down differently if I was on that plane” marky mark
Can’t forget the “committed a racial hate crime and left an old man blind in one eye” marky mark either.
tbh, it’s mostly similar feelings about NYK here.
derrick white’s mic’d up are some of the corniest shit. like pretending he doesn’t see them outside that.
Next level corniness
This is so wholesome
You complete me
I don’t need an Achilles, my friends are my power!
What is happening with Tatum’s hair?
Holy cornball
Played 2, learn to count
So fake lmao
Bro your team doesn’t even exist anymore.
Should rename them from the nets to the grosses!
zero charisma
Corny af
Keep hating lol
Lol this the kind of dialogue people see in fiction and say shit like “peak” or “10⁄10”
Nah this is the kind of dialogue people see in fiction and criticize because its so bad/corny its impossible to even pretend its real.
Not as much as the endless process your team is in
Frustrating, yes. Corny? Nah.
Regardless of who I follow this is goofy
“Hey bestie, sure love playing with you!” “WE DID IT”
If I can admit Sixers are ass you can admit this is corny
Frustrating, yes. Corny? When you’ve been in a process for 12 years, hell yes.
It’s an interaction between two players. That’s it.
We can both agree the sixers are ass, this is an interaction that’s it. Reading it as anything more is goofy
Yeah this is kinda cringe, like there’s no way this is the first time they’ve had this conversation
Some of you people just love to have something to hate on. Gotta create something outta nothing
This is also from the same dude who was texting Kobe’s old phone number, and just rattling off iconic quotes from finals of years past after the refs carried his team through the east. Dude is just a cornball
Refs? I’m not even a celtics fan, but I don’t think I’ve heard anyone argue Boston gets a good whistile, especaily in 2024. At this point, people just blame refs about anything and everything just to placate their team for losing.
Carried his ass in what season? The ‘24 Celtics were a top 10 squad lol.
Is it though? Snarking on reddit for upvotes seems a lot more cringy to me.
Find a new slant.
A grown ass adult trying to sound like a teenager is a lot more corny.
Tell us, coining a term for a half decade of being straight ass, is that corny or nah
That’s exactly what I said lol. JT needs to get out of his bubble and go into the real world, lol, he always says the cringiest stuff.
We’ll see how Jaylen Brown’s ego responds to being the second banana all over again after having such a great regular season in Tatum’s absence.
🍿
Do you people even like watching basketball
No, I’m only here to shit on refs and partake in high school level drama. Fuck basketball
Don’t shoot the messenger. And yes I love watching basketball.
Then did you miss JB continuing his same production since Tatum has returned? You obviously don’t watch or follow basketball, you just like the gossip and drama apparently lol
Brown’s numbers have pretty much been the same since Tatum has been back. I think 16 games.
That won’t continue. Tatum is clearly the better player and has been their whole careers. Even when he couldn’t make a jumpshot in the 2024 Finals he did more on both ends than Brown.
They’ve managed to coexist for years just fine. They’ve played a ton of big games together and they’ve won a championship. I think they’ll be just fine, lol.
Ok so what is your point?
Yeah I wonder what will happen. It’s not like we have ten years of evidence as to how they will work together.
Such a desperate comment.
Keep dreaming bud
