[Highlight] Jaden McDaniels is called for a closeout foul upgraded to a Flagrant 1, sending Jamal Murray to the line for three free throws.
Possibly the least flagrant foul of all time
Jamal lucky to still be walking this earth
Almost ended up with Carlos Correa’s ankle
Next you’re going to tell me that kicking your feet so far out in front of you that you fall backwards when you land isn’t a normal shooting motion.
This has been called so many times this year
while unintentional flagrants happen all the time, Jaden clearly is taking an effort not to step under him here. but its a potentially dangerous move.
Exactly. On top of that Murray jumped forward. It might as well be a rule that it’s not allowed to contest this kind of shot.
Murray jumped forward after Mcdaniels was in the air too. If Murray got injured it would have been his fault.
And if you look, Mcdaniels was already landing when Murray jumped to shoot, so it’s not like he didn’t know that he shouldn’t land there
Everybody jumps forwards on jump shots
Kawhi is rolling in his grave…or wherever he is right now.
The flagrant flop on the other hand…
This stupid rule needs to fucking go. Bruce Bowen isn’t in the league anymore. We don’t need it anymore.
No it’s a good rule. But it should only be called if the offensive player jumps straight up.
Please tell me that I’m not just looking through biased lenses that this is a ridiculous call
Nah that was horseshit
I mean…these have been called flagrant all year idk why everyone is confused about this. Murray shot it like a normal shot, landed on a foot. It’s not like he went out of his way to try and land on him.
Jaden didn’t mean to do this obviously but it’s a rule even if it’s soft, and if it’s one that reviewed automatically then of course even if it’s soft they’re going to call it.
Would I be pissed if it happened the other way? Understandably, yes, but it is a rule.
Ant did the same thing later on and he didn’t get the same call.
it’s gonna be the same as last series against denver. Beating the nuggets and refs is always so hard. Already a 12 ft discrepancy even though they shot more 3s than yall. F
Worst part is the refs weren’t going to call anything if he made the shot.
It’s always so dumb when they wait to see if the shot goes in before they decide whether to blow the whistle
Would’ve been hilarious if it circled the drain and they blow it after Jamal already got up.
and after that he got foul by jokic but no call by the refs ..
Yeah McDaniels stops like a foot from where Murray jumps from. Not really sure what else he was supposed to do.
Not contest at all I guess
Apparently
Am I the only one seeing McDaniels sliding further to Murray’s landing space after he gets down?? Like it was pretty evident (in close-up view) that McDaniels had a 2nd movement after his foot lands and that’s what tripped Jamal Murray.
Idk if it’s a bad call or bad rule or what but like as a fan it’s just stupid it’s even a foul much less a flagrant. He clearly made a very decent effort to get out of the way and Murray went into him lol
Then you get this weird obsession with classifying a block attempt as a common foul or a flagrant based on the angle of the arm at the time it was brought forward.
This is what happens when the rulebook definition of common vs flagrant is illegal vs unnecessary contact. It makes no sense how to differentiate.
It’s both. It’s absolutely insane. Bruce Bowen is retired. We don’t need this stupid rule anymore. But we can mitigate 90% of the awful calls with it, if you just add a stipulation that it’s not a foul if the shooter lands inside the three point line.
Not giving landing space is literally the reason Kawhi and the Spurs fell out.
His effort to avoid the contact, created the contact at the feet.. which is a F1. Shooter gets landing space.
Like I said idk if it’s the rule or a bad call but whatever it is should not be called
As a fan it’s dumb, I stand by that
All I ask is you look into what happened with Zaza and Kawhi and the fall out after from the injury and time table of return for Kawhi from the injury caused from a play like this.
It’s the rule and as a fan, if it protects the players and helps them stay healthy it’s alright with me.
I know and it’s good to be aware of that but this one isn’t too bad. The space he gave is enough I think.
I don’t disagree w a rule like this ofc, just this one can’t be called like that and if its a proper interpretation of the rule then the rule needs adjusting
He just moved after the landing. I’ve legit had to argue this so many times I’ve watched it frame by frame so long I missed most of this comeback right now.
It’s super fast, JM lands right where his gather step started.
I’m watching this last 2 minute now ttyl
Brother I couldn’t care less if he moved after the landing. I watched it too, he had plenty of space, it’s a dumb call to have in the game
Maybe don’t kick your feet 2 feet forward when shooting?
Looks like a normal shot.
Is the kick out with us in the room??
This is pretty up and down, but if you’re just trying to make stuff up and argue go ahead and block me because I’ll just end up doing it to you instead.
Absolutely not up and down and Murray jumps as Mcdaniels lands. Easily avoidable by Murray
Up and down has absolutely nothing to do with the timing of a jump. So firstly, pick a lane.
It’s for the landing space. He’s a step behind the line, and barley past the line on the come down.
That’s a natural shooting motion, McDaniels moves once on the ground and impedes the landing space.
Shooter jumped after the defnder…
Nah that was weak af
Absolutely ridiculous. I do not have a rooting interest in this game
I don’t get it…
I am rooting for the Nuggets in this series but why the hell was that a foul in the first place ? And even flagrant after that ? Wtf are the refs doing ? If I was JMac I would be PISSSED my head probably wouldn’t be in the game.
These fucking awful refs are everywhere, soccer, baseball, basketball, American football, holy shit, my enjoyment watching sports has been deteriorated so much lately because of these guys with bad calls affecting games.
Huge Nuggets fan. That is weak as shit.
Saw some Nuggets fans complaining about the whistle before the series even started
No intent & no extra action. Unlucky second foot coming down as he spun to the basket.
Definitely not a flagrant, but could be called as a foul.
You’re not. The fall is almost comical
I like the nugs my son likes the wolves, neither of us thought this was a foul, let alone a flagrant
I would go as far as to say this a non-call. I hate shooters landing space is wherever they fucking want. I understand the natural shooting motion argument but still. Layups and dunks don’t have this landing space bullshit. A shooter’s landing space can’t be two three steps inside the arc.
Its a foul. Not flagrant. Nowhere near flagrant.
100% not a flagrant just some crazy shit the refs are on
I mean daniels tried to give him ample space how is this a flagrant
He didn’t even cross the three point line
It’s so fucking stupid. That needs to be added to the rule. You can’t call that a foul if you land in front of the three point line. MUCH LESS A FUCKING FLAGRANT.
It’s natural to jump forward on a jump shot, look at every shooter when they shoot a 3 on the line, they end up in front
Yes, that’s fine. That doesn’t make it a fucking (FLAGRANT) foul.
Refs are on some bullshit
Is this a Scott Foster game because it feels that way
Scott Foster is the worst. Spoke with two current players and they feel the same. He is a 🤡
He’s not a clown he’s a clearly tainted ref that the NBA won’t remove because of his deep understanding of how games are being rigged
I can sign up to that theory.
You should see it when he refs our games 💀
Simple logic should tell you that if you have to wait to see if the ball goes in before blowing the whistle, it cannot be a fragrant.
You would think. But alas
absolutely no reason for that to be a flagrant 😭
Flagrant by rule. So if it’s a foul at all (which it technically is) I think it has to be called a flagrant. Blame NBA, not the refs.
What is he supposed to do
Yea I’m all for protecting the shooter but I just don’t see it at all
Murray’s momentum is pulling him into mcdaniels landing spot if anything
The league should go back and watch the zaza foul that actually created this rule, it was so much more blatant than how it’s used nowadays.
If you pump fake a defender into the air then jump onto their foot you can draw a flagrant. GREAT RULE
At the risk of your own ankle tho
activate flight
Exactly he can’t escape jamal Murray purposely landing on him. He had to fully extend feet forward to land on him
You think Murray tried to land on him and risk injury? Lol
That was not a regular landing for a jump shot
Not take the extra shuffle while landing. That why it was a flagrant 2. The contest itself was fine.
Not jump forward into the shooters landing zone. They’ve called this for years now.
You can say that about a lot of fouls. Just because he couldn’t help it doesn’t mean it’s not a foul.
it shouldnt be a flagrant tho
I’d rather it be automatic than be a judgement call. Even if some are iffy.
They actually looked at it and called that, that’s terrible.
Gonna be hard to guard 3 point shooters this series if that’s what’s getting called
Good thing the refs are inconsistent game to game
What’s McDaniels supposed to do?
Supposed to let Denver score because Wemby vs. Jokic is going to get better TV ratings than Wemby vs. Gobert.
Let’s be real here, a wemby Rudy 7 game series would have the average winning score be like 93 and we can’t be having low scoring affairs in prime time

Reddit deleted my comment but
McDaniels should just copy LaMelo and Bridges instead of contesting a jumpshot /s
Ah its not funny anymore
How is that even a foul lmao
That shouldn’t have even been a foul. Murray went 2 or 3 feet forward to draw the contact.
Jamal moved forward, not sure what Jaden could have done there. Bad call.
Doesn’t matter which is why landing space is such a stupid foul. The Idea that a shooter is legally entitled to any place they land as opposed to where they took off from is stupid but that’s the rule
Absolutely HORSE SHIT
Seems like if the shooter moves away from their jump point, it should be their problem.
Yeah shooters should get the right to land where they jump from and that’s it
It’s a natural shooting motion. Watch Jimmy Butler if you want to see a shooter abusing the rule.
Maybe he should make the playoffs
Literally what is a flagrant
Lmao he was literally already stopped completely when he jumped into the air then he fake fell down
He was 2 feet from him when he landed and turned around, how is he supposed to know he’s in the landing zone when he couldn’t even contest the shot
This is gonna be fun…
Jaden is coming straight down. It’s absolutely wild how a shooter can just kick their feet out and trip themselves and get a free flagrant foul called
If anything should have been offensive foul.. personally should have been play on no foul
Fucking sure man. Whatever.
Yah so far this game has sports betting all over it.. the whistle inconsistency is crazy. Wolves cant even defend without calls. Meanwhile they have to challenge when hacked. Unreal
Jokic slapped Jaden straight in the face at one point, ref looking right at him, nothing called. Then Jaden shoved him and everyone acted like Jaden was just doing it for no reason. He was getting screwed over constantly in this game in the dumbest ways and finally had enough. Jamal Murray couldn’t even be looked at without a whistle.
So you can jump into the defenders feet for a flagrant?
If I’m Chris finch can I not just challenge that ruling? Genuinely what is McDaniels supposed to do?
that was the ruling they reached after reviewing the foul
They already reviewed it for a flagrant to make their decision. They’re not gonna flip it by reviewing again
The refs reviewed the call already and changed it to a flagrant. There was quite literally nothing that Mcdaniels could do except let Murray take an open shot
If his foot doesn’t turn forward post landing there is no contact. The contest itself has him landing without contact. Its the shuffle forward that creates it
This was reviewed and the call was made post review.
Cant challenge those plays
refs better suck our dick second half
Nope. They just sucked Denvers dick even harder
Players shouldn’t be awarded for having a jump shot that propels them forward
Remember SGAs shot over Dylar Harper?
One of the longest distances covered on a jumpshot lol
The NBA overcorrected after Zaza injured Kawhi. That was clearly a dirty play and Zaza wanted to injure Kawhi. Most of these fouls are not dirty, and oftentimes its the offensive player jumping forward.
The rule definitely needs to be refined this offseason, but players are so “crafty” I can see how any revision would be hard to implement
The NBA is so wack now
Lmao..
Murray totally jumped further than necessary to get that foul call..
What a bozo..
He tried to do it to Gobert too a couple minutes later but didn’t get the contact he was looking for
As big of a BS call as I’ve seen all season. Absolutely BS.
Idk how you guys are mad it was ruled a flagrant 1. It’s stated pretty clearly in the rules that foot to foot contact that can result in injury is deemed a flagrant 1.
You guys just not remember ZaZa
It also says a kick out that is not a natural shooting motion should be an offensive foul. Kat had so many of those called against him.
That’s not a kick out. He jumped forward which is a legal shooting motion. It’s also no secret KAT is secretly hated by the NBA refs.
A lot of players move forward as part of their jumpshot. He isn’t wildly kicking his legs out trying to get contact on a run by. It’s the refs enforcing the rule as written (as it should be) even if this call is against the spirit of the rule.
I totally understand the frustration from Wolves fans though, like honestly how does McDaniels defend this then? He’s fully stopped, not actively closing out and being anything but reckless. I personally hate when rules are left to interpretation of the ref, but this is one where it probably needs to become a thing. Keep it hard and fast if the player literally is in the space where the shooter jumped from, but this being a flagrant just feels wrong, even if it follows the rule as written.
Meanwhile, this wasn’t even called a foul in the first place
He could throw a heat pack tho
This interpretation of the closeout is actually more harmful if anything. It tells McDaniels that he’s gonna get called for a flagrant anyways, so he may as well jump farther into Murray’s landing space to get a better contest.
That’s a really good take. I’m all for protecting shooters on policy, but there should be space for warnings post game if it was deemed a “could have caused an injury if things played out differently” kind of situation rather than adjudicating on the court. Nuance protects players, too.
It really sucks that dirty players ruined trust in the league. This is probably going to be a big stain on the playoffs this year.
What crack are the refs smoking today goddamn
Did people actually watch the video. He takes an extra slight step forward after landing which causes the contact which is unnecessary. Like if his first foot doesn’t shuffle forward there is no foul at all.
That’s what I was thinking… Looks like no one’s watching the game here… There definitely was a second movement by McDaniels after he landed, and that’s what caused Murray to trip.
they call when it’s not even a flagrant or even technical and they also not call nor review the most obvious.
I think this is pretty ticky tack considering the numerous ways dort does this that aren’t even called fouls.
Me when I take a running jumper from 3 and fucking launch myself into the center standing in the paint for 3 free throws and possession. Thank you NBA!
Pure horseshit
imagine these denver cunts ever complaining about refs lol
Every thread I am reminded how little this sub reddit understands the sport.
I have this stuff. The only space a shooter is entitled to is the space they literally jumped from, not multiple feet from that position.
Lamelos isn’t a flagrant but this is? Wild
This is awful
WHAT??
Great game today, the refs played amazing
The playoff casuals are already here with their god awful opinions on fouls and rules…. I wasn’t ready
You have to give shooter space to land, very clear flagrant
“Denver is sucking so we need to give them some points”
It’s basically the definition of the rule, good call. Bad rule though, they need to fix that because this should not be a foul or flagrant
Murray’s feet are behind the line when he shoots and in front when he lands, how’s this McDaniels fault
The NBA rule book fucking sucks and so do the refs. I legitimately don’t know why the NFL owners are okay with this shit, I’m assuming at least some of them actually watch the games.
I don’t know why nba players still run at guys. I block a lot of 3’s and it’s never because I run at them straight on. Run to the side of them and you can get a block and you won’t hit the guys
He pumped, got him in the air and jumped into him. Good job nice foul bait, but how is that a flagrant???
Miles bridges basically bunches bane last night and just got a tech
The NBA is a joke. How the hell can you even play defense then?
ok normal foul is understandable but flagrant is crazy
Murray then falling and acting like his ankle exploded is so damn shameless. Refs are awful
Refs hoeing everybody these playoffs eh? They got started on the BS since the playins too.
Landing zone is so stupid. It should only apply to straight up and down, not if the dude jumps forward
I’m rooting for Denver, and this is a common foul at best. Certainly not flagrant. It’s embarrassing they still got this wrong on a review.
Jamal Murray has more points in free throws at this point than actual buckets. Insane lol
Everyone saying what is the defender supposed to do…yeah that’s been the exact problem since this rule was created. Every shooter jumps like 6 inches forward and everyone contesting a shot also jumps forward some. He did impede the landing zone so it’s technically a foul but yeah the rule is kinda whack
Whack ass call
Despicable act
He took a three. He landed well inside the arc. How is that even a foul ? It also looks like Jamal is sticking his feet out to seek contact. It looks unnatural and not surprised he rolled the ankle.
Jaden looked like he was already back on the ground before murray completely left the ground.
There was a closer shot shown during the review. McDaniels slid more towards Jamal Murray after he landed… It was a pretty clear fragrant
Definitely not flagrant. But i can see the foul
Some ref’s hidden bet just made $10k
Fragrant foul; This stinks.
Fucking insane. If someone shoots a 3 and the defenders foot is that far in front of the 3 point line, it should never be called a flagrant 1.
Unless there’s some social case where they’re shooting on the run so fall down funny or something. But clearly that’s not what going on here
Murray grifting again
Omg that could’ve ended his career, what a hostile act by Jaden.. 😑
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this is ridiculous. If you shoot a 3 but land inside the 3 point line, you’re outside your protected landing zone.
Foul baiting flagrants now… We’ve reached a new level of corruption boys
My god he is such a dirty player what a dirty play flagrant 2 that man
obviously biased but do not the amount of forward space Murray covers is completely average for a jump shot so this is literally textbook following the rules? I agree the rule maybe could be less punishing depending on the case but don’t know why this is controversial. The rule is not if the offensive player lands ahead of where they jumped from it’s not a foul.
For a step back three, Murray is jumping forward far less than average. I’ve seen Curry and Harden jump three times further in these type of shots. The defender isn’t even remotely near him at the time of jump either and had to cover an extreme amount of distance. He also twisted his feet towards him near the end which actually caused him to clip Murray rather than going away. I’m pretty sure barring someone literally sticking their leg out and running into a jump shooter, this is the second most blatant textbook example of the closeout rule.
Yea this was bullshit
Murray jumped way further forward than normal
I understand why they’re enforcing this but it just seems like another tool for shooters to get FTs. It’s like they risk injuring themselves for FTs. Just look at how Murray lands, it’s like he was going for his foot
Wouldn’t this be a normal defensive foul?
Finch already has his postgame excuse if they lose.
Should be a flagrant two. That’s very reckless.
I think the only reason they called flagrant was due to the foot contact. 100% was in the landing zone tho
I think it is specifically him turning his foot that puts it directly where Murray lands. If McDaniels doesnt adjust his feet and there is still some contact they likely dont call anything. Not saying I think it was a good call but pretty sure that is what did it.
Its because the one foot turns into him after he has already landed. The contact isn’t on the contest but after post landing.
