[Hine] They call a Flagrant 1 on McDaniels on that closeout. Said there was a high potential for injury.
It looked like Murray jumped into him
He did. He shot a 3 and landed a foot and a half inside the line. Total horse shit.
It doesn’t matter, unless the defender is in the low block they’re required to give space to land. Flagrant 1 seems a tad excessive to me, but it’s a foul either way
I didn’t say it wasnt a foul. I don’t think thats a flagrant. I know you OKC guys love refball but lets be reasonable lol
I also don’t think it’s a flagrant, but saying Murray jumped into him is entirely irrelevant
Its not entirely irrelevant tho. They have to give him reasonable room to land. But we’ve seen them even call offensive fouls for players intentionally sticking their legs out and stuff
No, they’re required to give space to land. If Murray had superpowers he could jump 10 feet forward and he is entitled to that landing space
Yeah I know the rules. Doesn’t mean its a good rule. OKC fans like watching 50 ftas but I don’t.
If you actually watch the clip, i’d argue there was very little mcdaniels could do in that situation. I prefer leagues where some defense is allowed
What he could do is not be in Murray’s landing space. Man Knicks fans love whining when they’re wrong
Not be in his landing space i.e. play no defense. There’s a reason most fans don’t like the call - it’s not fun to watch.
I know you OKC guys like it tho so i understand where you’re coming from.
Fouling is different than playing defense. If McDaniels wasn’t late on the closeout, he’d have time to move his feet Edit: awwww, block and run like a bitch
Agreed. If that was SGA i would be demanding a flagrant 2. Injury risk is high.
Shut up
Wtf is your problem. I was agreeing with you
No, you weren’t, you were being stupid
friendly fire 1 day before our ring run… the vibes are at an all time LOW right now. lock in.
Calling out dumbasses isn’t friendly fire
Idk why your being so rude. He has to give him space to land. Literally a flagrant by the rules are you dense?
“I’d be demanding a flagrant 2”. Stupid. Inarguably stupid
Learn the rules bud. Its literally a flagrant for reckless closeout.
[removed]
And you would be wrong
lmfao
How much space are you supposed to give? Murray jumped like 3 ft forward
Space to land. Murray could jump 15 feet forward, doesn’t matter
Is does matter dweeb, no one is shooting naturally like that, you’d never be able to guard a player if they called this a foul everytime.
Defenders are required to give space to land. Murray could’ve jumped into the paint and it would still be a foul. That is also an entirely normal shooting motion, you should watch more basketball if you think otherwise
So if I am standing there and murray just jumped into me from the 3 point line and I am 4 ft from of him you’d call that a fou;? Clown OKC Fans
to me this isn’t any different than calling an offensive foul for the shooter kicker out their legs
Dude I hate okc and he’s still in the right here lol you can dislike the rules but as it’s written that’s the right call
Yes, you would be required to move to give Murray landing space. Learn the rules dipshit
That’s not true. If you’re in legal guarding position you are allowed to hold that space. Defenders are not permitted to move into the shooters landing space after they have begun their upward shooting motion.
Incorrect. Directly from the rule book:
“A defensive player must allow an airborne player the opportunity to land and then avoid contact when the offensive player is outside the lower defensive box.”
lol everyone in this thread is so mad at you even though you’re right and have proven it
Pretty much how the world is these days, everyone thinks they’re right despite having no knowledge of what they’re talking about
I understand that rule. It’s just superseded by the charge rule.
Charge rule applies to defending a ball-handler, not an airborne shooter. You don’t seem to have any idea what you’re talking about
Okay, again, learn the fucking rules dipshit
“They” are bad at their jobs and are making me hate my favorite sport
what a joke
What in the world?
If youre playing pickup you call foul on that every time
This isn’t pickup it’s the NBA playoffs
I forgot the /s my bad. Thought it was obvious sarcasm
i mean this sub has some of the most braindead takes i’ve seen on reddit so sadly the /s is necessary even for obvious sarcasm
Followed by the no-call shooting foul on Jokic that we have to go to a review to. Gonna be a fun time today lol
Hope Finch gives it to them in the postgame, need to nip this in the bud
That was stupid
This specific matchup is always so absurdly dependent on how the whistle is being used lol
Obviously all games are to an extent but the swing in Nuggets/Wolves games is legitimately like 20+ points depending on if the Wolves are allowed to play with physicality or not
It was a huge reason for the constant massive game-to-game swings in 2024
Refs sucking their little nugget sized dicks already
refs already favoring the nuggets smh
Wolves have a lot of experience overcoming the refs as a 6 seed
These refs are a joke
surely you could apply common sense that someone jumping forward doesnt fit the criteria for this, but its the NBA
That has nothing to do with the rule. The onus is on the defender to allow the shooter space to land, you could jump all the way to the paint and it’s still a foul
the rule is to stop reckless closeouts and deliberate attempts to injure for guys in vulnerable positions, thats not what that was
The rule requires defenders to give shooters landing space, it does not require shooters to jump straight up and down. I think it would’ve been more reasonable to be called a common foul, but that’s subjective. It is objectively on the defender to allow the shooter landing room no matter how far forward the shooter jumps
The NBA’s “reckless closeout” rule (often called the Zaza Rule) allows referees to penalize defenders for failing to give a shooter space to land, specifically when a defender recklessly positions their foot under a shooter. These plays can be upgraded to Flagrant or Technical fouls if a defender’s movement is considered dangerous or unnatural.
Explain how he was reckless, how he positioned himself under the shooter, and how the defenders movement was unnatural?
A defensive player must allow an airborne player the opportunity to land and then avoid contact when the offensive player is outside the lower defensive box.
These rules primarily target defenders who over-commit, but officials also look at whether shooters are trying to initiate contact artificially
You can admit you’re wrong at anytime
No chance should this be a flagrant 1, he bit on the pump fake, he didn’t even close out on the actual shot.
Product on-court is fundamentally broken— way too many fouls-for-ads, eliminating basketball’s basic appeal as a fast, free-flowing game.
But we’re a highlight-driven league not an actual sport. If we don’t like actually watching the game we should stick to reels and TikTok’s /s
are you supposed to get on your knees 4 feet away and let them shoot?
According to the rulebook, not me. You just don’t know the rules
Absolute joke call. Common foul sure. Flagrant? Tf outta here.
Idk how far they expect defenders to stand back and still give a good contest.
Also how far forward are shooters allowed to jump?
Hate how inconsistent calls are
according to u/roastedhambone you can just jump as far as you want into players and it’s stilla foul
NBA is so ass now.
I honestly don’t know how you’re supposed to play defense there. McDaniels already had his feet planted there before Murray started jumping forward
Average McDaniel close out
