LeBron James says Bronny James ready for playoff minutes on short-handed Lakers: ‘Earned and deserved’
https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/lebron-james-says-bronny-james-ready-for-playoff-minutes-on-short-handed-lakers-earned-and-deserved-234844979.html
if you were otherwise going to play gabe vincent had you not traded him, you might aswell play bronny.
If not for the Vincent trade, we would not have a PG, Luke Kennard.
Gabe is a good guy but we never got the production out of him he showed in Miami.
Never pick up Miami guys in free agency… Unless they’re Duncan I guess
He’s been pretty solid for us for the few minutes a game we needed that type of player
I’ve been glad to hear he’s doing okay there.
He had an injury his first season with the Lakers, and it changed the type of archetype he had with us.
Well Smart is there as an option and will probably get some time on ball but yeah thank god for that trade.
Gabe was very solid in Miami, LA just didnt have as a good of a coach to utilize him.
If a player needs a good enough coach to score more than a bucket, oh my…
Or he got paid and fell off
The guy was earning $10m either injured or performing cardio.
I can’t remember a single good Gabe Vincent moment.
But I’ll also state that it was more Darvin Ham’s fault than JJ’s.
Just saying, Gabes still has a better career.
If he’s as good as you’re trying to convince everyone he is, then why isn’t he with Miami right now? 🤔
As a Celtics fan, this guy murdered us in the conference finals. That playoff run got him, Strus, and Caleb Martin paid.
Zombie heat, lead by Jimmy.
The only non-champ to have an equivalent run like that has to be ‘18 Bron.
Elite company.
Im nit trying to convince anyone that hes great, being better than Bronny isnt a high bar though lmao
Bronny’s had more of an impact in his games lately than Gabe has had near the end of his LA stint.
That’s the point and everyone got it but you 😂
3 years past being good for 1-2 years doesn’t mean you are good anymore
Hawks don’t either?
Sports “journalists” won the lottery when Bronny was drafted. All they have to do is ask LeBron a question about his son that will obviously result in a flattering answer and post a headline with that quote. The end result is thousands of Redditors making the same generic, predictable, sparky comments.
All trolling aside, I actually think Bronny is a decent player, and he’s handled everything really well since he’s gotten drafted.
yeah, tbh, his heads down attitude completely makes the hate he get look like pure jealousy.
Esp compared to dudes like LaMelo who are pure unaccountable chaos and get constantly glazed.
Right, I’m super casual but I really don’t hear anything bad about him. Not his fault that his dad is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He’s just out there putting in work and trying.
I disagree he’s a decent player but he has handled things well since bring drafted
A decent player is a contributing role player. Hes a end bench player who can play garbage time.
he’s bottom of the league tier what am I reading
I never seen more lying about how a good a player is than what we’re currently seeing with Bronny.
I don’t hate him or LeBron at all I just don’t understand why so many people are trying to pretend he’s good when he’s objectively not. I mean it’s blatant karma farming but it’s still ridiculous
Headlines, publicity and endless threads about Bronny for the last 3 years makes dudes think he’s good just by recognition alone. You never hear about other low-end guys like Killian Hayes or Nic Claxton.
Don’t insult my goat clax. MFs be putting him with killian hayes that’s crazy
Claxton has had a good year wtf he’s not an all star but he’s solid defensively and a talented passer/playmaker for a big you’re buggin
Yeah but can we talk about BRONNY?????
Bronny just seems really mid to me, I think certain people overrate him a lot but the hate he gets is overblown. There’s a couple teams out there I think he’d make the roster and get spot minutes on. I’d take him over DAngelo Russell and probably Westbrook at this point at least he has the potential to get better
I see sarcasm doesn’t work on you
He’s not decent we don’t need to lie
He’s 21 years old. He has made some progress. He won’t be an all star but as a decent defender who can eat 20 minutes a night most teams will be happy
Bronny’s not good but he’s got the right attitude. I’ve watched majority of lakers game this season he’s not nba calibre wouldn’t be a top player in college either.
He completely dominates in G-League, that seems about as good as some top college players.
Bronny is currently in the Mac McClung stratosphere where they’re strong players at the top end of the G league and dominate but they just don’t have quite enough to be a true contributor on an NBA team. Yuki Kawamura is also in this stratosphere but the thing he doesn’t have quite enough of is height.
I do think Bronny will eventually break out of this when given time to develop. It’s just a matter of getting the time and being allowed to have stinkers as he is growing.
We just need to combine the defensive skills of Bronny and the offensive skills of McClung and we might have a good NBA guard
McClung can score but can’t really create for anyone else on the team.
That’s a fringe starter and a really good 6 man right there
Even if it weren’t his son, is he really gonna go “its a shame the trash ass bench player is gonna get minutes?”
This guy socials.
isn’t there a stat that he’s averaging more than risacher in the last month
He’s about to average more playoff minutes than Zion 💀
Technically he already has although it was in garbage time.
[deleted]
When you’re the most scrutinized #55 pick of all time and start producing you better believe it is.
6ppg in garbage time is not producing
You must be great at parties.
Risacher is a hawk. He was getting no playing time because they shortened the roster to chase playoffs.
Risacher is a Hawk who were in a competitive race to avoid the play-in. You’re thinking of Sarr.
Youre right my bad
The kid is still nothing of note, but a high effort hustle guy that shoots 39% from 3? Nothing wrong with a player like that getting some bench minutes. I could totally see him as a 3&D bench guard for years to come. JJ Barea had a long NBA career with less physical gifts.
Jj barea is much better shooter and facilitator, but much shorter and less athletic, weird comparison
much better shooter?
Yeah he’s white! Gotta be a crafty, high iq shooter
Tell me you have no idea about JJ Barea’s game without telling me you have no idea about JJB’s game
JJ Barea is not white lmao
I mean has he said this? I know he’s Puerto Rican/hispanic but you can be that and white
There are many white Hispanics, even white Mexicans. I know because I am one of them.
My point was about how Barea overcame his physical limitations, which for an NBA player were significant, and that Bronny has shown signs of positive development with his offensive game
you can’t teach that motor to Bronny. you either have it or you don’t
Put some respect on JJ Barea, Lebron was afraid to post him up
I won’t even make an argument that he’s good, but for a team with as weak a bench as the Lakers, the team should be happy that the 55th pick is at least vaguely sometimes playable.
Most second round picks never even play, let along the very end of the draft.
3&D wing is the most valuable player archetype in the league right now. He’s flashed potential, especially on defence, so to me it makes sense that the lakers want to give him run.
just enjoy the moment. hes not a “high effort” defensive guy. the shooting has improved but is still low volume. idk man…
You’re not watching enough. Not only is he nothing of note, he can’t fucking dribble as a point guard, can’t shoot, the 39% is from such few shots lol. He plays great one v one defense but gets lost in pics or when a team is running an actual play. He’s awful.
39% on 1.4 shots per game lmao. All in garbage time where no one is playing hard.
But hey if we’re gonna bring up %’s with no context of sample size how about the fact that he’s a 51% TS player on the season. Thats atrocious considering how low volume he takes shots it’s not like he’s Kobe out there having a high degree of difficulty on his shot taking.
you’re actually making the opposite point you think you are making.
Bronny is a legit end of bench guy in the NBA.
Good for him, could have just phoned it in and collected his LeInheritance while banging snow bunnies but dudes worked hard his whole life.
+1 legacy points to LeBron James for being a good role model for his son
Bronny is a lot more self aware than people give him credit for. He came into the league saying he strived to be a Derrick White type player, he knows who he is and what role is best for him. He’d probably be better on another team away from the media circus of LA and his dad
Random Derrick White reminisce, I remember the first time he stood out to me was a random summer league game from years ago, I was browsing box scores out of boredom and this guy was lighting it up in the SL and coming off the bench for the Spurs later on
Took a few years break from following NBA to him now being considered one of the best defenders and players in the league lol
I do feel like it says something about both of them that he’s put in the work. He clearly has. And he won’t ever be an all star or even a starter. He could have just been a TikTok basketball star. Dominate pickup games and cash in.
Id be interested to see him on a bad team where he has some room to work.
The only “stain” on his journey was during the pandemic when he started hanging out with adin ross lol. It only lasted like 6 months though.
I don’t think Bronny should be in the league but I don’t blame HS kids for being on popular streamers sites. We’re all idiots then. Wouldn’t consider that a “stain” at all.
We live in an age where everything is put on media and yet LeBron for the most part has been a pretty clean dude considering all the fame and attention he’s gotten basically his entire life.
Tell yourself whatever you want bro😂
Hate always comes from below
I enjoy sport played my whole life if I was bronny id be marcus jordan not bronny lol so would most people willingly going to get hated on by millions of reasons purely for the love of the game
From a strictly basketball standpoint, Bronny is not THAT bad of a player.
He plays good defense, his shot has become more consistent, he’s athletic for his size, and he doesn’t do dumb stuff on the floor.
Those are exactly the kind of players almost any team wants.
Not to be rude but don’t most defensive metrics portray him as a negative defender? It seems people get caught up on the fact he seemingly tries on defense and warp that to meaning he is good at defense. Additionally, he has a 51% TS for the season. Does this really qualify as someone who any type of team would want? As of today he doesn’t provide anything of value really but he was a second round pick so what could you expect
Using defensive metrics to evaluate a player who’s playing time is limited and a significant chunk of it is garbage time isn’t the way. Just watch him play. He’s a good defender for 10-12th type guy and has potential to be more than that
He’s a good defender but can’t crack the rotation on a team that is dying for perimeter defense? Something’s not adding up.
I said “he’s a good defender for a 10-12th guy”
im sorry, but most defensive metrics are dumb. I’m not saying this to imply one thing or the other for bronny, but eye test is the only accurate defensive measure imo. the eye test for bronny says he’s high effort POA and not usually too bad off ball.
I don’t think he’s a great defender by any means (I think he’s about neutral on the court) and I’m open to arguments for him being worse than I think he is, but defensive metrics aren’t convincing alone
Why are we lying
Bronny is bottom 3rd percentile in the league in EPM. Ranking around 516 out of 535 players
He’s a small guard who has 50 TS%.
hes legitimately terrible. the fact this comment is even marked as controversial says it all. people in this thread are delusional. 3 points & 1 assist per game on 50 TS% is horrible, and no one would be saying otherwise if this kid was named anything else.
Actually, you probably would be shitting on him LESS if his name was something different.
Everyone keeps saying “he’s good for a 9-12 option” and you keep holding him to the standard of a starter. Because of his dad’s name.
51.7% TS.
56.6% TS since Jan 1.
59.7% TS since Apr 1 (about when he got into the regular rotation).
But go off.
a missed dimension here is also that he has an underrated playmaking bag that he’s picked up. he seems to be more than serviceable as the ball handler in PnRs.
Since when is 51% TS a consistent shot? Even saying he’s average is a massive stretch.
He couldn’t hit anything to start the season, but he’s been at least average since New Years.
Is he a good defender and decision maker on the court? I haven’t seen that. He seems raw and undersized out there.
Hell at this point I would love him on the Pelicans
Hes moving in the right direction. Too early for consistent playoff minutes but hes very active defensively. If he can nail corner 3s reasonably he’ll be playable for sure.
On this lakers roster Bronny absolutely deserves the minutes it’s not even LeBron being biased as a dad
More than half the league can nail corner 3s reasonably.
Then half the league is getting minutes, yes?
And before anybody tries to clown them remember it could’ve been Gabe Vincent. You’re trolling if u think Gabe’s output was better than bronnys when he finally got real minutes
Gabe was a starting caliber player in Miami, LA just sucks at using thier players properly.
It’s the team’s fault that Gabe was missing so many shots and contributing nothing on the defensive end but some pressure?
Ig the hawks suck at it too
Incoming haters but Bronny for sure has earned some minutes.
It’s literally 90% positive comments and 10% incoming haters comments in every bronny post
For game 1 he definitely cracks #9 in rotation. The way we’re already thin, we might have to go 9-10 deep just to preserve guys.
Honestly I am interested. If Bronny has any future in the league it’ll show during the playoffs.
I hate the way Bronny got his opportunity and admit I don’t watch full Laker games but he looks improved. I’m a Bucks fan and I can tell you that my team filling a roster spot with Alex Antekopoopoo is way more of an injustice.
He doesn’t look bad at all for “last meaningful guy off the bench” status
Earned by inheriting LeSperm?
The Chosen One with No Other Choice
Even if you think Bronny is decent enough to play end of bench minutes, there is no denying that LeBron, the lakers, and the media have pushed him into that position in a way no other player of his tier would be. I’m not going to pretend like he earned everything and worked as hard as everyone else to get there
“My mom says I’m cool.”
I’m so tired of this shit. Bronny sucks. The lakers suck.
uh huh
sure thing
he worked soooo hard to get his spot on the lakers
Ok sure
This is the final loyalty test for LA. Do this and Lebron will consider re signing after you’ve made moves and taking a discount
Don’t play Bronny and he’s taking his talents to the Land
Name another team that loves their 55th pick like bronny lol
OKC?
WTF people think a father will say?
Damn Bronny James doing a real MyCareer mode
He’s made some positive strides which is good to see. He did well in the g league which is positive. He did well at the end of the season in the NBA against other fringe NBA guys which is good. So definitely some good improvement. Am I ready to pencil him in as giving the Lakers solid rotation minutes next season? Not yet.
Everyone else is hurt so send out the towel boy!
I wonder how many players that never get a chance would actually be really good in the NBA.
The kids of NBA players tend to overachieve their draft position and physical attributes.
Good luck Bronny!
Guess its time to fade the rockets then
He’s better than Knecht and gave Vincent. We are short handed enough where I won’t be surprised he actually plays minutes in the playoffs considering he’s at least an above average defender.
Most dads will say that about their son lol
Who’d win in a one-on-one? Bronny or Thanasis?
Thanasis is 6’8 and very athletic he’d win. Bronny is more skilled tho
Thanasis easily. He was actually drafted by the league not because of Giannis.
The real comparison is Bronny vs Kelvin Blejins
Thanasis I think, Alex Antetekumpo vs Bronny might be closer.
Thanasis is fucking Bronny up
One is getting legit rotation minutes at 21 the other has never done that. Great take tho
One got drafted for being a legitimate talent, and one got drafted cause his dad runs the team. Great take tho
Bro is bloviating 😂😂😂
This is apples and oranges. Bronny is the better basketball player and only getting better. Thanasis would still crush him one on one
I can see him getting some minutes when the game is well out of hand
If that’s all you can see you haven’t watched the Lakers much. He’s going to get end of the rotation minutes to start the series.
—__—
So, not just when they’re getting blown out?
Couldn’t even dribble the ball up against Cason in the regular season how he gonna handle playoff pressure??
I don’t think any fans would want Bronny on their team.
If I’m JJ reddick I’m starting bronny, he earned a starting role. Btw I’m a huge Lakers fan and I definitely want the Lakers to win.
Lakers getting swept can’t happen soon enough
Well………. that’s the coach’s decision right there, Bron
k thanks
Here come the dumbest responses by people who never watched the kid play
his last years are pathetic honestly
genuinely
in what way lmao
He’s fucking terrible and the only reason he is in the league is because of his name.
Here come the angry couch potatoes who settled for a life of mediocrity and raised kids who did the same
That’s shocking, I would’ve thought that LeBron would’ve come out hard and critics of this pedestrian nepo baby.
I mean they can’t get rid of him so they may as well play him
Haters can’t admit that Bronny is a legit NBA caliber player. This young man came back from a heart attack and all you can do is hate hate hate
If you constantly have to say someone has earned something they didn’t earn it.
Do you think he just comes out and says this stuff ? He is asked questions about these topics lol so because YOU don’t think he earned it, it means he didn’t ? So if his coach feels he earned it and puts him in you know more than the coach now ?
JJ Reddick and Rob Pelinka have said the same unprompted. If you consistently have to say it it’s not true.
Reminds me of my ex girlfriend who would always tell me she’s mature.
This makes zero sense …other people who are qualified are saying he deserves it… It’s not him saying it. It would be like a bunch of mature people telling you your gf is mature. Lol some of y’all got too much empty space up top man I swear.
I’ve never seen the words earned and deserved do so much heavy lifting.
He gonna get a lot of minutes in garbage time
It would be a shocker if he averaged 15 5 and 5 throughout this series
LeNepo and LeLucky
If you did more than play video games, you could set up your kids for success too
