AG came into last season a career 32.3% 3 point shooter.

But from the start of lasts season (Oct 24th) through the playoffs and into game 1 of this season (Oct 23rd) he shot ¹⁰⁷⁄₂₄₁ from 3, or 44.4%

Since game 1 of this year he has shot 34.9% on a little more than 4 3pa/g.

Did he have an exactly 1 year long hot streak? A deal with the devil?

fwiw this isn’t an AG hatepost. I like Gordo, respect Gordo, want him to do well any time he isn’t playing the Thunder. And fully expect him to shoot 70+% from 3 if we meet in the playoffs. I just thought this was a weird statistical quirk.

I mean, if you’re looking for real basketball reasons it mostly comes down to the fact that Cam is eating a lot of his corner 3 attempts. AG went from 36% of his 3pa being from the corners last year to 24% this year. Cam takes 34% of his from the corners compared to MPJ who only took 12.5% last year. Braun and Watson also need a lot of corner 3s too so the weight fell on Gordon to take more above the break.

I think AG made real improvements as a shooter, but he’s had a tough shot diet this season.

You’re framing this pretty weirdly. Essentially you are saying he only shot well from 3 in the 24-25 season and playoffs….but he also shot 39% percent *this* year despite all the time in and out of the lineup.

I don’t think it’s weird at all that he’s a better 3 point guy now(especially with the very high diet of c&s from the corner) than he was earlier in in his career, even if the 43 percent number was unsustainable year over year - if he only stays at like 39 thats more than good enough.

If he “only” stays at 39%? Dude, I don’t think there’s been enough statistical backing to really confirm if he’s really improved. After a hot start to his season, he’s shot 33.0% (³³⁄₁₀₀) since 11/17/26. That’s over 25 games, which is the vast majority of his short 36 game season.

Everyone thought LeBron James had improved his 3 point shooting due to him shooting 41.0% in 23-24. He followed up with a 37.6%, which is respectable, not terrible. But he just had an attrocious 31.7% this year, which makes sense given his mediocre 34.8% for his career.

If I were a betting man, I would not surprised if Gordon’s good season was more anomaly than actual improvement. I would not be surprised whatsoever to see Gordon shoot 33% next year.

Feel like the free throw shooting improvement he made at the same time suggests he improved his shooting mechanics rather than a hot streak. His free throw percent is lower than last year as well, but still the second highest of his career on the second highest volume as well.

I don’t have the numbers, but feel like because he has improved his 3-point shot he is also taking more difficult pull up 3s now that he has more confidence in his shooting. Anecdotally it feels like I’ve seen him take more pull up 3s when he has played then in past seasons, but again not sure if the numbers bear that out.

Also his lack of a rhythm from injuries could very well be playing a role.
