MJs finals opponents weren’t nearly as good as most of lebrons though. The weakest he faced (2020 heat) would be a good series vs Jordan’s. I do not think ANY of them can compete with the 2007, 2013, and 2014 spurs and the 2015-2018 Golden State Warriors. The baby Thunder is a group I think beats most of them too (more than the heat) but they weren’t as good as San Antonio or the Dubs.

The talent consolidation is the big thing. Jordan’s Bulls were built like a modern contender. Pippen was easily a top 10 player of the 90s and his style complimented Jordan’s perfectly. Rodman was a dominant defensive presence and rebounder. Horace Grant and later Luc Longley were very good defensive bigs. Toni Kukoc and Steve Kerr were excellent floor spacers in a 6th/7th man role. They were led by one of the best coaches of all time. That structure competes in the modern NBA. You just didn’t see teams built as deep or as well rounded back in the day.

Jordan is the most freakish gifted athletic scorer ever who was also an all time elite defender. LeBron has the greatest career ever. His longevity is insane and a lot of his records will likely never be touched.

But it’s important to remember that MJ is missing about 7 full years of statistics that LeBron has. 3 years where he had to go to UNC, 2 years for the first retirement/baseball/ gambling suspension (whatever you want to believe), and then another 3 years between the last Bulls season and first Wizards season, where he still averaged over 20ppg after coming back.

None of that is LeBron’s fault, and it shouldn’t be held against him, but when we’re debating GOATs and LeBrons case is almost entirely based on superior counting stats, it needs to be considered.
