It’s not an unfair advantage. Every team has the same options available to them. Just because the Royals and Marlins billionaires don’t want to spend like the Dodgers do doesn’t make it unfair. The Marlins are a terrible example because they’d be rolling in money if they didn’t fuck up both of their teams after winning the WS. Miami loves baseball, you see it in the WBC games there, but they don’t love the cheap Marlins.

edit: To go even further on the Marlins they had Christian Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna all on the same team and traded them all away for peanuts. Two MVPs and a multi time all star all on the same roster and they didn’t keep any of them because they’re cheap.

Bronny is small though even for the combo guard roles he guards. He’s an average team defender but due to his size he’s a below average man to man defender which becomes more prevalent in playoff games. Doesn’t bode well if Lakers have him on the court for 12+ mpg

Nope. Bronny can’t dribble against good physical defenders. He will be a turnover machine against Houston anytime he’s asked to bring the ball up and get the team into sets on offense. Not the case with Reaves even if he’s banged up.

And I say this as a fan of Bronny who believes he’s a real NBA player. He’s just not equipped to handle the ball against defenders like Houston’s. He has to be used on offense as a catch and shoot player exclusively.

The biggest problem facing LA is not having ball-handlers who can direct the team’s offense. And that’s not only because it’ll result in turnovers and worse shots on offense, but also because of downstream consequences it’ll have on Kennard, Smart, and especially LeBron as defenders and transition players when they’re exerting a huge amount of energy that normally falls on Luka and Reaves. They’re going to be exhausted and overextended.

So imo the value of someone who can handle the ball exceeds whatever else you’re saying Bronny would have over Reaves. Reaves rebalances the rotation and provides breathing room for everyone else to play better. Bronny mostly doesn’t (though I’d love to be wrong on this).

I agree with you. I think the difference is that my belief is that injured AR can’t handle the ball. He’s going to be a shooter and not driving like he does when healthy. I actually think LA will be fine with LeBron and Luke as ball handlers. LeBron gets to free roam on defense and smart can focus 100% on 3&D. Bronny is also 3&D. I’m 99% sure the entire gameplan is going to be LeBron and Luke alternating as ball handlers, and it’s going to be 3 point chuck fest outside of Rui.

Considering Muncy was out for months in 2024 with a similar injury and Dodgers couldn’t do anything for him until he got some pseudo science chiropractic treatment, and Betts is out indefinitely with the same thing this year, I don’t know if going to the Dodgers facility helps much more. They don’t seem to have some sort of fancy answer or treatment that money can buy.

There are only so many treatments for what really boils down to a pain management / mental battle once the initial strain has time to heal.
