Zohran Mamdani, when asked about the high cost of Knicks playoff tickets vs Atlanta: “I would say that I blame Trae Young… and I think it’s always important to blame Trae Young”
Man knows his audience lol
He always did, and that’s how he got voted in.
He drilled in the issue of affordability and what he’d do to address it during his campaign while Cuomo and the rest of the clowns focused on Mamdani being inexperienced and Muslim.
When Cuomo said he was both a Mets and Yankees fan I knew he was done
Basically saying “Yeah I’m actually evil, but also I suck”
Hahaha
Anyone that supports the Mets and Yankees is a traitor to the American dream.
Hah yeah totally agree the Yankees suck
For me it was the answer to “how do you like your bagel?”
I don’t eat bagels, I eat English muffins
Never had a chance
playing both sides in true establishment democrat fashion
And for Mamdani to actually call out that you can’t do that lol
You don’t get it cuomo and the rest of the clowns would have lost worse if they didn’t go the centrist Israel path they would have lost even more. I bet you feel real silly right now.
It was crazy how obsessed they were over the Israel topic in first place. Like they’re campaigning for the job of mayor of New York City not the secretary of state lol
GOAT.
Trae catching strays even off the court😤
Not even on the team anymore and he’s still getting blamed
Out jerked by the mayor.
He’s impossible to guard, his eyes are too gentle and mysterious!
Seriously. One of the most impressive things I saw was him walking right into the President’s office a couple months ago and had him fall in love with him. And he’s done it twice lol.
You just need to actually be a human being from the area you are trying to represent.
It can work both ways for good (this case) or bad.
Rob Ford ran Toronto for many years, while literally smoking crack and speaking Patois. Not because he was smart, not because he was good for the city but because he was a real Toronto mans.
“I got plenty to eat at home”
Almost as if he represents the interests of his constituents
Excellent answer for a stupid question.
The whole video is good, the Trea Young part is only the beginning.
Also, $80 to get into the door isn’t crazy. It’s a huge game.
I think he was saying that’s the price in Atlanta. I would be surprised if the cheapest Knicks tickets are under $200.
Edit: Yeah $350 at the moment
Every arena should have a section in the nosebleeds that are like $25 dollars each and you run a lottery for them. No reselling them, you have to show ID and your name has to match the name of the purchaser.
But how will this stuff more money into their pockets??
Okay, but to actually awnser that question: merchandise. Pokemon is the brand it is because folks like me are willing to drop 20$ on a plush of a pokemon.
Sports teams would profit the same way. Get people in the door for a big game, they love the team, theb keep spending money on shirts hats and other merch.
Eh, you can get those fans by just having your game on TV. I’ve bought nearly a thousand dollars worth of Kobe and Curry jerseys despite never once seeing either in person.
Soooo 2 jerseys then?
The tickets are being sold either way, and presumably if they’re filled with people who pay more for them, they’d also have more coin to spend on merch unfortunately!
But actually though it’s pretty goofy how some people will go like “I think the CEO of the NBA should throw a million dollars from the third floor of a mall” like yeah I think they should all voluntarily admit themselves to reeducation camps but neither of those things are gonna happen
This should be a thing especially for publicly funded stadiums
Ughhhhhh
That is just criminal.
Ngl, as a German, those prices are fucking insane. Not even our high profile soccer matches are this expensive. The best seat in the national cup final goes for less than half the price, only the VIPs pay more.
These prices are ridiculous for sure, but Knicks tickets are also inflated compared to most other NBA teams. Woukd you expect to pay more for a Bayern match as opposed to a mid or low table Bundesliga team?
(Im asking honestly, i know BL is famous for strong fan involvement and fair tickets)
Sorry, \(80 is the Atlanta price. NY price is \)300. I messed up the clip.
I think he said “80 bucks to get in the door in Atlanta”. It’s definitely way more for the knicks
“80 bucks to get in the door in Atlanta”
That’s the problem though. $80 should be crazy but we are used to that. There are riots in England about £1,000 pound season tickets being too expensive
If London didn’t exist, UK would be more poor than the poorest US state. I thought London was similar to New York, but it is very K shaped city where you’re rich or just doing ok.
https://i.imgur.com/6MBRr8e.png
It’s a good question though. I know stuff is more expensive in NYC but the fact a Knicks fan could fly to Atlanta, rent a hotel, and buy tickets for a game in Atlanta all for cheaper than tickets to a game at home is crazy. People are frustrated at resell prices, asking for some solution to dampen resell prices isn’t a bad question.
Ehhh the Knicks will always have this issue. Between all the rich people, client facing companies, and tourists the tickets are less about rooting for the Knicks and more about having a ticket to the hottest live event.
Most of the people paying these crazy resell prices aren’t die hard Knicks fans (not saying they aren’t big or even huge Knicks fans) which leaves little supply for the true fans
This is true the real fans are in the rafters being priced out of the lower levels
Bro your damn city has 8.5 million residents there are “real fans” that can afford lower levels
Yeah I find the idea that you can’t be a real fan and wealthy really whack. Robert Kraft was very much a real fan before he bought the team. Obviously an extreme example but a valid one.
You can be rich and still be a real fan.
I thought I’d do the math for this because with recent inflation I wasn’t sure if that would actually be the case. If you’re staying a single night in ATL for game 3 (Thurs, April 23), these are the lowest prices I could find at a cursory glance, assuming you want a reasonably comfortable trip.
Flight: $205 (flying out of LGA on Frontier)
Hotel: $110 (staying at the Reverb Downtown ATL, 10 min walk away)
Ticket: Single \(85; Pair \)192 ($96pp)
Grand total: For a single person: \(400; for two people, \)712.
So not quite as cheap as going to see G1/2 in NY, but pretty close.
My man does not realize how expensive trains in and out of the city, taxis, etc. are in New York.
You can live in manhattan and it’s still 45 minutes on the train or a taxi from the garden easily. Let alone any of the other boroughs.
That’s absolutely not true. No way you can do all of that for less than $270
I would do unimaginable things for a playoff series vs the Knicks next year
Wizards in the playoffs?
You’ll definitely need to do some unimaginable things alright 😂
They have some decent pieces, they just need AD to stay hea–
Yeah, never mind
Hey I know a guy you can trade AD for
Cooper Flagg on the Wizards would be nice asl
And we had the best odds…
You had 0 chance man, sorry
One of the reasons why the league tanks in ratings. Worst team doesn’t get best player god forbid
Trading Flagg for AD?
Adrian Dantley?
can’t wait to eliminate your bum team with trae when we finish as the six seed
The whiplash that comment just gave me, lmfao
felt weird to type, the strangest part is i was half joking when i said we’ll finish as the six seed
The Knicks were able to escape the depths of poverty maybe some day we can too
For all of our poverty siblings who have yet to make it, I can only wish y’all the best 🙏🏿
It’s the east tho. Totally possible.
I’m willing to bet a unhealthy amount that we at minimum make the play-in.
Healthy Anthony Davis is pretty unimaginable ngl
if the bum ass knicks can make the offs, why can’t we lmao.
Because your franchise is one of the most embarrassing in the league lmao
yeah it means you guys being the 1st or 2nd seed lol
You’re going to settle for getting eliminated in a 9 vs 10 play-in situation
After the last three years I will take that
Only 3?
The Westbrook Beal year was kinda fun.
Nah I believe. Wizards sneak in as the 8 seed, Trae drops 31/3/15 in a 7 game banger vs. the Knicks.
Let it come to pass…for the memes
(The Knicks being the 1 seed might be the most unrealistic part here, if only because they seem to be the perennial 3 seed every year and the healthy Pistons and Celtics will likely stay on top with the Cavs and Pacers remaining a threat to get top 3 as well)
The world needs a Trae vs Knicks playoff series. It has to happen.
It would be such a weirdly vulgar but all smiles moment for the Wizards to finally be back in the playoffs and Trae Young ‘reunited’ with the Knicks as the chants rain down on him. I’m pulling for it, consider it manifested.
Trae in Washington: What he say fuck me for?
Trae in Washington Cancun: What he say fuck me for?
Did he say making fuck?
BESERKER!
Bro better work some sunscreen into that scalp
Nah Trae’s gotta love that legacy tbh, better than the alternative
Fr imagine what harm he caused to a franchise that they chant that shit whole 5 years later, single handedly keeping his brand alive considering he hasn’t shown much on court in a long time (I do still have my 🧊ICE TRAE🧊 flair on r/atlantahawks but just keeping it real)
That series was definitely the peak of Hawks fandom in last 10 years (Sixers series was mostly ludicrous, it’s more remembered for what Ben Simmons did and oh man that Gallo steal on Embiid was insane), which is sad, hope the new gen can take us further
Just the fact that he went to Trae instead of Haliburton speaks to what the Hawks did that year
Well they’re playing the hawks, so it doesn’t have anything to do with Indy
Yes, absolutely. However I’ll say that what Trae did was way worse than Haliburton. Tyrese was corny. Trae was a villain.
My favorite part was the Capella circus shot
Yeah in 20 years his legacy vs New York will get exaggerated like Reggie’s was. It genuinely feels shocking he only won 3 series against the Knicks while also losing 3
Yeah, you’d think Reggie killed the Knicks everytime they played, and no the Knicks often got the better of him.
I can’t wait for Knicks fans to chant fuck Trae Young even though he’s not there anymore
He’s good at this
bro invoked Bernie Sanders and the Dodgers in one sentence.
You should read about the history of the Dodgers bro
Dodgers in Brooklyn: loveable working-class underdogs. Dodgers in LA: “are we the baddies?”
They kinda are, but not really. They have amazing player development, they keep on getting franchise players from other teams because their original teams are dump and they have actually cool dudes.
Also, as a casual, I have no rooting interest, but I do want Ohtani to keep on winning to keep proving to the universe how terrible team the Angels are.
They also displaced hundreds of working-class families in Chavez Ravine when they built Dodger Stadium.
This commonly misrepresented to be the dodgers fault. It’s not, it’s the city of Los Angeles.
The dodgers nor the idea of a stadium being built there was not a factor in the displacement of the residents of Chavez Ravine. That had already happened and the dodgers stepped in wanting the now vacant land to be the site for their stadium.
It’s not “The dodgers wanted to build a stadium there so let’s kick all the poor residents out”
It’s “the city wanted the land so they decided to kick everyone out and sat on said land until years later the dodgers came in to acquire the land” still lit the best look but it’s less malicious on the dodgers part than many represent.
And the current owner has investments tied to ICE that terrorizes the same Latino fans that attend the majority of their games
He’s also your (Lakers) owner… so…
Yeah I know that. Haven’t attended any games or bought any merch this season.
On the flip side, it’s much easier to let players develop when you’re already paying so much money to the actual, proven players, assuming they stay healthy. That being said I agree, they’ve got some good minds in the org, none of this can happen without that.
Of course it’s probably easier to obtain and keep that excellent staff when money isn’t a concern
because their original teams are dumb
Bro come on, they gave Kyle Tucker $60M/year.
One even became president
Republicans are lucky he’s ineligible for president lol
Tell that to Ted Cruz - then again, the rules of the game surrounding citizenship have shifted a bit since 2016
Unfortunately for Americans and fortunately for Republicans, Zohran became a citizen as an adult where as Cruz was a citizen at birth because of his parents. Mamdani’s parents weren’t citizens when he was born (not sure if they are now)
Clearly I remembered all of that incorrectly
I try to remember as little as possible about Ted Cruz so I’m calling this collateral damage
Fuck Ted Cruz. All my homies hate Ted Cruz
fuck it the constitution needs a heavy rewrite anyways, change this as well
He won over trump off nothing but vibes
Everybody he meets with wins Trump over dude has dementia
Media master at work
he’s absolutely amazing at this
he’s fantastic
All my homies in New York hate Trae Young
As a young philosopher once said “Trae Young looks like my dad’s dick…I’ve never seen my dads dick but if it I did that’s how it’d look like”
God, those sidetalk videos are legendary
Crazy that this line got the guy a major role in a blockbuster movie
Tell your dad to hit me up.
so quick with it. the man knows ball
It was funny during the debates where Cuomo said he’d split time between the nets and Knicks then Mamdani called him out on that and said pick a side after he picked the Knicks lmaooo
There were so many little moments where Cuomo and Silva were asked questions that were clearly geared towards what they would think is the best answer for the election and Mamdani just straight out gives his opinion.
This was one of those moments lol.
I think Silva also just gave his honest opinion (don’t agree with his policies but respect him and don’t think he’s a liar) but Cuomo 100% agree
Actually youre right. It was more Cuomo I remember that did that.
Ya wild that the anti trumpists were honest then the trump glazer was a liar lmaoooo /s
as a non new yorker silva was so fuckin funny, it seemed like he existed and knew he existed solely to pull votes off cuomo so zohran would win
He went at both of them but went extra hard on Cuomo. I think the big boost he gave was that Cuomo wasted a lot of time arguing with him while Zohran pretty much ignored him for the most part.
Sliwa is way out there but you can tell he loves New York. I was kinda hoping he would get a (minor) position after it was over. Leader of the Guardian Angels division or some shit.
Politics is balancing what’s popular (or not unpopular) to as many people as possible with being genuine. I think generations of politicians have got it wrong, people want authenticity more than someone who tries to say what they think most people want to hear.
But maybe not?
Broadening your voting base is and appealing to everyone is important. Thinking you have to hedge on a fucking favourite sports team screams inauthenticity.
I might get downvotes for this but Trump won the 2016 election largely based on voters perceiving him as genuine, at least from the perspective that they thought he would say exactly what he thought instead of giving a rehearsed answer. That was the messaging that people I knew that voted for him picked up on the most (in addition to the promise of packing the Supreme Court with Republicans, which they considered to be the only way to save the country from inevitable destruction)
Turns out that it wasn’t sincerity, it was a disregard for accuracy
Mamdani grew up as an actual New Yorker. Thats why he can connect with people and is believeabel in his personal stories and anecdotes.
You just know that he isn’t lying about loving the Knicks or Arsenal as the examples of his most outspoken declarations of support.
Cuomo grew up as a sheltered socialite. He probably was more into Horse Racing at Ascott than NBA basketball at any point in his life
“I think that Deni Avdija fellow is the GOAT” - Cuomo, probably
not to mention the whole vibe with Cuomo up until he actually had to take Zohran serious was that the mayor’s office was kinda beneath him and he should have been able to sleepwalk to a win.
Brilliant setup. No matter how he answers Cuomo will look like either look like a coward, a copycat, or a Nets fan. Truly no winning there.
Didn’t Cuomo also say he supported both the Yankees and the Mets and every single New Yorker clowned on him for it?
Cuomo refusing to pick any New York team gave off so much fake people-pleasing energy. Like being honest probably attracted more people to Mamdani even if he chose the team you rooted against
for real like he should have just said Yankees. i’m a mets fan and I respect that more than a fencesitting “i just root for new york! :)))): answer.
It was between going to a game 7 championship of Knicks or Mets
Silva and Mamdani were Knicks . Cuomo said he would do half and half in one night
If any public money goes to a stadium, or any tax breaks for the business, then that team should be required to sell 1⁄4 of the tickets for like 10 bucks. It’s our fucking money that bought a billion dollar stadium, we should be able to watch a game.
The knicks stadium wasn’t publicly funded, and were granted a property tax exemption so they wouldn’t leave for jersey lol
Tax exemptions are a form of public funding. It’s like if you all agreed that one of your roommates didn’t have to pay rent, then the rest of you are subsidizing them by paying a higher proportion of the overall rent.
Even if that were to happen, ticket prices don’t change. Every single person in the city would apply for one and then resell it at a more appropriate price. If they are ever confronted about it, they can just claim their tax went into the stadium so they deserve to make a profit off of reselling the ticket to pay for groceries or something.
He seems like a great public servant, and no I’m not basing that of this one clip. Solid guy, I hope he doesn’t let nyc down!
It’s nice to have a guy who can actually string a sentence together.
Personally I like my politicans be 80+ years told and to use AI-generated images like it’s a shiny new toy and start beef with the mf pope of all people, but that’s just my cup of tea.
Even if he couldn’t: What’s really special about him is that he isn’t divisive. All of his messaging is positive without taking anyone down. There’s no fearmongering, there is no hate.
It’s a positive let’s do this attitude.
get a new slant lol
o/u on Fuck Trae Young chants breaking out anyway?
Over, always the over.
Oh it’s happening. Most of us don’t even care about Trae, the chant just feels right.
God I hope so will be funniest shit ever I hope it’s deafening and they keep panning over to NAW and he looks confused
Lmfao NAW is gonna be looking at the camera like Jordan Peele in this Key and Peele sketch
Jalen Johnson will be like damn they don’t even bother w my ass
I think people just don’t get it’s a cultural phrase here
I was at my parents recently and my dad said something and my mom just goes “ya fuck Trae young!”
Pelicans still have fuck trae crowder chants
Hammer the over
A better one would be -
o/u on Fuck Trae Young chants in the first 5mins of tip-off?
What’s funny about the Trae Young beef is that he often cooks the Knicks and there’s not really anything to actually hate about the guy personally since he seems like a good dude.
Fuck Trae Young
This.
He leaned in to it, in a good way, was fun
Huh. Today I learned there s Knicks fans that actually deserve brunson
haha mamdani is such a fuckin real one
Absolutely hilarious
Y’know, knicks fans aren’t that bad
They really are though. They forced me to become a Nets fan and for that they must eternally suffer.
get fucked, rapaport
I’m sure there are some good Knicks fans, I just haven’t met any yet
You’re a top 1% commentator, surely you’ve ran into a couple
Why you gotta make me like a politician 😭😭
did you see his millionaire property tax yesterday? don’t know how bro just wins non-stop
I wanna like him, but I’ve seen too many idealists like him get beaten down by the system
He will truly be 1 of 1 if he keeps this up all the way to the end of his 1st term
What a weird stance to take
What is it about idealists getting beaten down that makes you not want to like them?
I’m ngl, I’d much rather have a generation of idealist politicians only get 30% of their idealist policies implemented than have them be cynical, lip-service speakers who never aimed for idealist goals in the first place. Actually implementing ideals is necessarily incredibly hard in a system where at least aim to encourage different ideas (and have lots of corruption, of course…)
Youre forgetting the GOAT Bernie Sanders
You acknowledge the system is against him but still blame him? Jesus man
Lmao they still hate bro
It was a joke lol. Idgaf about Trae young. At this point he’s a meme
This just reminded me of when Eric Adams talked about Trae Young in some presser and everyone hated it viscerally
It’s like that “hello, human resources?” meme. Chad Mamdani vs. incel Adams.
Ok Im ngl this was a peak answer lmao Mamdani answered it perfectly and in a political answer too 😭😭
God I love this guy
Just did a sidetalk interview yesterday, got alotta non pc answers there: https://youtu.be/5MvK4mfexN4
Holy god I don’t even care about mamdani or New York or any of this but listening to a competent human respond to questions with eloquence and not just getting emotional and calling people nasty reporters is such a stark contrast and breath of fresh air
A1 Mayor.
Its so jarring listening to Orange Von Fuckface and his administration, then listening to someone like Mamdani speak.
How to endear yourself to Knicks fans in one easy step.
What is the lore behind this?
2021 NBA Playoffs, Atlanta beat NYK and Trae Young became the most hated man in New York.
Trae Young raised gas prices. Pass it on
Honestly that is a great answer
He knows his audience well 😂
I respect that
Just another W for the ruler of the Mamdanistan Caliphate
This guy does not miss
A weird side effect of expansion is that every team has an equal vote in the CBA, regardless of fanbase size. So in the long run, the Small Market Billionaire Owners got a supermajority.
So in effect, a single Pacers fan ends up getting a lot more representation than a single Knicks fan. Kinda like the Electoral College.
That leads to all sorts of weird 2nd order effects. In essence, Knicks fans are drowned out of any representation.
Definitely a New Yorker’s answer.
THATS MY MAYOR YALL
Based
Now this is a platform I can support!
Actually based lmao
He’s so right about you feel it across the whole city when the Knicks are good, it’s awesome
