I mean, I agree with you for the most part about cherry picking sample sizes. But there is no doubt that if the game is close, the tension and pressure go up and it’s a more intense environment.

The last 5 minutes of a game you’re up against the mental part of the game in that if you miss, you might not get another shot, and it could be the swing factor to end the game. Many players play worse with that pressure.

“Clutch” time stats can have noise in them like many other stats, but if you get a full season of data it can really show if you rose or shrunk to the occasion
