Kon Knueppel tonight despite the win: 6 points on 2⁄12 FG, 0/6 3PT, 2⁄2 FT, 4 PF, -20 +/-
Tough game for him tonight. Not the performance you would like to have in a must-win game. Was scared to shoot before ultimately getting benched.
https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401866755
Bill Simmons 9⁄11
He’s already there to drive him home
Kon’s gonna have to call an Uber tonight
Both he and Lamelo
He’s definitely not 100% and hasn’t been for weeks
He is just a rookie 😭
C’mon man, don’t laugh at 911. I waded through blood and bones in the streets of Manhattan looking for my brother
He was in northern canada
Nephews missing the Norm reference
there were some dudes on this sub calling him a star in the making lmao
white dudes always get the benefit of the doubt here
do you think this one game makes him not a star in the making anymore?
He may still be a star in the making…but some on this sub were so anxious to make him a star RIGHT NOW. He is, of course, a great shooter. But what do you bring to the table when you don’t have your shot? Your defense? He was a -20 tonight.
To be fair, Spo’s zone can be tough. If he is the player this sub thinks he is, he will learn from it.
no, he hasn’t shown that at all the whole season. he’s a good shooter, that’s it
“in the making” means “not one yet”
he isnt a good shooter he is an exceptional shooter.
Is Luke Kennard a star?
Kon made 83 more threes this season than Kennard has ever made in a season. As a rookie.
Kennards more efficient and plays less minutes though
He wasn’t more efficient as a rookie. What are you not getting?
That he’s not a star, he is a role player
in the making means he could be one. he can’t
and still just a shooter. he isn’t and won’t be a star
You do know he’s injured, right? And, shocker, his play started to decline when he got injured.
Why you gotta bring race into this? If you wanna hate the dude, just hate the dude
Yeah this game just epitomised his rookie slump he’ll be back for sure
The worst time to have his rookie wall hit
More the back injury than the rookie wall, but both probably contributed
Injury + going 125% post ASB to get to this point. He’ll be back
When did he injure his back?
The best time though no? Because they won anyway, if they lost, people will know why
Since they said that this game matters for the ROY race, then this should settle it.
It was only ever going to matter if Kon did good. They’ve been trying to find a way for Kon to win.
Fwiw when a player makes a record as “clean” as possible like. “Most 3 pointers by a rookie in history” and “first rookie to lead the league in 3’s” it SHOULD matter more than someone who has objectively great records, but are like “most points by a saggitarious who also got at least 2 blocks before the age of 19.5”
Keegan Murray did this and finished 5th in voting behind a bunch of guys that Flagg clears
Keegan Murray did NOT do this lmao
Keegan Murray literally did “make the most 3 pointers by a rookie in NBA history” AND did it as part of a 3 seed in the West. (Yes it was one of the most fraudulent 3 seeds ever, but still.)
Yeah, Kon then shattered that record by a lot and generally had a much higher volume/usage while maintaining even better efficiency and even leading the league in 3s made. His rookie season was definitely better from an individual perspective. But as far as both the 3pt record and doing it while on a surprise playoff team, yeah Keegan Murray literally did do it
Kon lead the NBA in 3s made as well though
and even leading the league in 3s made
Good one… except those really aren’t the records are they
Like youngest player to score 50?
That’s not what his records are like at all though
yeah…most wide open uncontested look 3s in history is a clean stat. over 5 times more open looks than Cooper. impressive to have 80% of your points passed to you while wide open.
Is getting open a skill in basketball?
lol gtfoh. he has barely had to do any off ball movement to get open looks. yall acting like he plays like steph.
cool add that to the giant list of now…TWO things…one of which Coop cant even attempt because hes has the ball and doesnt get benched in the biggest game of the season. lmaoooo
Well if it’s so easy why didn’t Cooper Flagg take more open threes? Is he stupid?
because hes the point guard and number one option and didnt have someone passing him the ball while wide open because the actual good players were being guarded?
Nah they will act like that didn’t happen. That they never said such things lol.
They could give them co-roty. happend before.
This should have a good story as well since both were teammates in college
Which game matters for Flagg?
The game when he whooped our ass and cost us the 3rd seed? Or the 50 point game before that?
This comment was the final piece of the Luka trade.
Thank you, Coop clears
Actually that’s the #2 OA pick this summer
Fuck it, make it #1
I’m finally starting to see the vision
you know, the back to back 40+ games as the 1 option getting guarded by every teams best defense player?
We’ll have to see Flagg in the post season this year to really compare them. What time is he playing?
Same time as Bulls, buddy.
First overall picks rarely make the playoffs, these takes are silly
Yeah no shit, that’s why it’s a regular season award. But don’t hold the post season stats against one guy when the other didn’t even make it.
The Lakers/Mavs conspiracy continues because:
Luka’s request for special exception delaying the awards voting means that the voters will take Kon’s game tonight into account even thought they’re not supposed to.
And as a result, Cooper will win the ROTY.
Kon’s been in a slump long before this game if we’re being completely honest
Yeah but they weren’t as high profile, this type of high profile game to be so bad that it will change votes lmao
Not a lot are aware of it because the media are ignoring it. They really would rather find a fault on Flagg’s 45 and 51 point games lol.
But not high profile because the average Joe doesn’t watch March/april hornets basketball
No Kon can have ROTY, we want a top 4 pick.
oh its over
Why not have them just vote 2 ballots. One with Luka available, another without
Duke DNA in a big game
I’m definitely worried, he’s been terrible the past 13 games. People are speculating he has a back injury cause he was wearing a back brace a few weeks ago but his movement looks fine. If this version of him shows up vs Detroit we are getting swept if we make the playoffs.
Yeah hornets will need to be on fire from 3 in that series if they make it because the pistons are insanely good in transition and it will be a problem for the hornets based on what I saw from the heat tonight.
I know a lot of people say this disingenuously, but I think tonight flashed a lot of what some people mean by saying he’s just a 3 point shooter right now. When the defense knows your first instinct is not going to be to create rim pressure and you don’t have the comfortability doing dynamic playmaking inside the arc, that’s not difficult to mitigate in a playoff setting. If I was a hornets fan, I’d be pretty worried about that for the extent of this playoffs run. It’s obviously not bad a 20 yr old doesn’t have it all solved yet.
I think he got good looks and just started cold. It didn’t look like he couldn’t hang out there and get to his sports. Then Coby got hot and kon got benched.
Kons been avging 13.5 pts a game and shooting 38/33/75 splits the last 13 games. This is not just a tonight thing, whether or not you think he’s just a three point shooter that is an insane difference from the rest of the season he had. In 69 games prior he was 19 ppg and 49/44/88 splits. Now if you really think this game is just simply the defense messing with him you haven’t been watching cause he’s been missing shit that he was making all year.
Sure, right now, but he’s not this static the whole season. He used to be able to go to the rim with regularity. This isnt the prime Kon that people voted for.
Backs are weird, you can look fine and still be hurting.
When mine was bad I could run fine for short bursts, but it was like missing my top gear. The second I shifted into a true sprint it was over.
I also shot terribly, but that’s not abnormal for me lol.
Yeah I’m sure he’s banged up but I think he’s just gassed. 81 games playing over 30 minutes a night is no joke.
Definitely probably gassed, but he got benched when he passed on a wide open pull up around the free throw line early in the third that resulted in a terrible grenade for Miller(?). It was the exact same look for his first made field goal in the second quarter. Either way, Lee probably thought Kon’s confidence was shot if he’s not going to take that opportunity to try to get himself going.
Oh I agree. He’s definitely in his own head too at this point
He’s been playing through injury for over two weeks now
You’re getting swept anyway lol
Despite Kon’s best effort to sink them the hornets won
My guy Coby White saved Carpool Kon from a full offseason of slander
How is this the first player stat line posted lmao. Who gives a shit
Crazy the amount of hate people have these days. Greatest fucking play in game I’ve ever seen, and we’re talking about how bad someone played. Stupid ass fans.
they’re not fans. we got to understand that. most ppl in this sub are not basketball fans, they complain about everything that is basketball
That is what happens when Kon fanboys spend MONTHS telling us how fucking great he is.
You reap what you sow.
You don’t need to hate. No one here needs to be your enemy.
you sound like a 12 year old crybaby lol
Nope. Just a fan who was tired of having Kon’s GREATNESS populating thread after thread on this sub.
He is a really good player, but as we saw tonight, without his shot, the rest of his game - and the limitations to his game - is a liability. That is why he was there with a towel around his neck for the last 15 minutes of the game.
He will learn from this. He will get better. But I am not upset that his fanboys got to see the holes in his game when the klieg lights are bright.
Is leading the league in 3s as a rookie on very good efficiency not impressive? I am a heavy Coop supporter for this ROTY race who thinks he should absolutely win it, but its close enough to the point where I wouldn’t be too mad whichever way the votes swing.
If Im being honest, both Kon and Coop are doing generational things as rookies, and that this race is slightly closer than you would like to admit.
guy 1) 80% of shots are passed to him. most uncontested 3 attempts in NBA history.
guy 2) better at literally everything else
yall are regarded af
“They were stupid so I gotta be stupid too!”
Because he was great for months, but since it’s evidently the Rookie of the April award, Coop gets it.
Coop has been great for months too. Better even
Coop was great all year, but yeah late season national tv games are going to factor in more. You watch basketball right? It’s not just box scores.
He looks like the average poster so he resonates.
He didn’t play the last 10 min or something like that so I suppose someone could be able to get this post ready earlier than others.
Or it’s just a hater.
Mavs fans who can’t just shut the fuck up and be happy they got the most undeserved first overall pick ever
You killed bam
Chill on the ROTY bro.
Thanks for Luka bro!
Np my boy, enjoy
Y’all can have the meaningless award and we’ll take your lotto pick next year when the Mavs are dogshit again :)
Dude y’all just won, cheer up!
Your team has been dogshit every year except this one 😆 and you are still a Play-in team. Have a bit of humility
enjoy 24th pick bro
good for one year btw
thank you raps bro
Flagg would never
I was told by Hornets fans that he also typically guards the other team’s best player and can do more than shoot.
Can’t believe they survived without his defense and playmaking.
Brother we won by one point with four seconds left
with Kon being a -20
Brother Kon was unplayable in the final mins of the 4th quarter and the entirety of OT
Dookie of the year
lmao
Kon Knueppel got haters 😭
not my ROTY
I can’t believe they even let him play through his colonoscopy prep
The brights are too light for Kon
He’s a rookie. That’s the pain of relying on a rookie.
Good news is they won and now his first playoff game is behind him. Getting your teeth kicked in but winning is an alright way to lose your Rookie tail.
*first play-in game
FLAG FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR!
Not my ROTY
He lost the ROTY tonight. The votes have not been cast yet because of the Luka arbitration. No voter is gonna put Kon at #1 after that disappearing act
Bontemps was right. He still had this game to make his case for voters. Congrats to Flagg on ROY.
Dookie of the Year
Kon hit the rookie wall in April 😭
Why is this the first thing people talk about wtf
To show how he shouldn’t be ROTY
We love to talk about how awards are stupid but then eat up the drama
Probably because it was pretty nuts see him not finishing the game even in situations where the team needed a three.
If Sion James was in the lineups for clutch offensive possessions over Lamelo I’m sure it would also be a story.
Dimlight merchant
The Hornet’s won tonight’s game inspite of Kon’s horrible performance. Kon has not been playing well for the last quarter of the season since teams have been giving him more attention and running him off the 3 point line. Throughout most of season he benefited tremendously from all the open shots he was getting but now that he’s gotten their attention he’s not finding it so easy to get open looks anymore and he just doesn’t do anything else well enough to warrant him being on the court and that’s why he was benched tonight.
He’s finding out like most shooters, that there’s a difference between regular season D and playoff D. He’ll be fine, but his butt was tight tonight
Cooper would never
Could have sealed ROTY but instead shat the bed at home
Coop ROTY but also fuck off with this bullshit narrative. Kon made the hornets amazing .
The hornets are like 3 games above .500. Is that amazing now?
I mean after how they started yeah it’s a pretty amazing turnaround
Did Kon not play on the ass team too? Sounds like the reason they became “amazing” was Coby White, not Kon
No. They were on a roll already before they got Coby White, and he missed games after the trade as well. He’s also a 6th man, while Kon is a starter. You don’t know what you’re talking about
Kon is good, I’m not denying that. But at the end of the day, he’s a catch and shoot player who is like the 3rd or 4th option. He is not getting guarded by the best defensive player on a nightly basis, and he has the most wide open shots in the league iirc. Coop did not have all those benefits, and still out performed him
Again, you clearly don’t watch, stop trying to argue.
What part am I wrong about? I was slightly wrong about the open shots part, he’s about number 10. But that’s still way way above Coop. He is primarily a 3 and D guy, who has other aspects to his game but that his is primary play style. You can’t just say I’m wrong and not even tell what part is wrong.
That is also an overreaction. The Hornets are below .500 even in February. What really brought them over the line is the trade for Coby White.
Amazing?
It makes sense that he’s slowed down in March and April, he played 81 games coming off a 30 game CBB season, and his playstyle has to wear him down considering he’s one of those guys who’s constantly moving off ball
Need him to step up in the 8 seed game
Yeah…. not his best outing.
Crazy these play-in games affecting ROTY and 6MOTY voting because of Luka’s arbitration
Lmao seriously
With the Luka appeal delaying the ballots, it may shift some more people’s votes
It was a deliberate effort by the Heat to prioritize shutting down Knueppel, and it worked really well because he isn’t yet capable of utilizing his gravity to benefit his teammates. Also because the Heat zone was disgustingly good at not yielding an advantage even in exchange for limiting Knueppel. I am looking forward to smart people analyzing this game in detail.
Actually, what the Heat did is attack Kon on defensem This has been the thing for the past few games.
Curious to see how VJ will do. Based off his clutch stats during the season I assume he’ll be a playoff riser but we’ll see
-20 on a 1 point win, Hornets is going to be scary if they made it into the Pistons series
No secret this kid is gonna be good for many years hopefully he doesn’t become one of those players that are ALL STARS during the season AND dud out in the playoffs
Clearly wasn’t scared to shoot. Took 12 shots and his season average is 13, plus he would have taken more if not for the benching. He was just off on everything (which I’m sure the defense was making sure of).
Nervous rook. Nothing new here. Would’ve been nice to drop 10 on decent avg, but not a big deal. He should get in the swing of things moving forward.
Experience counts, he is green, he will get there. Was hoping he had a better game
Doesn’t surprise me at all that a rookie shooter was tight in his first playoff game. A single elimination game at that
He hit the rookie wall at the worst time but he’ll be aight
Love that statline! ROTY material, that three point specialist! LOL.
When a player inexplicably starts playing bad for a stretch, I automatically assume injury.
dude’s been playing through a bad back
he has 4 more games to prove himself
They still have to play another play in game.
LOL Cooper propaganda in full swing.
ROTY. He contributes more to winning than Flagg, he’s gotta be ROTY
I am sure Flagg will contribute to winning if his best teammate is not Naji Marshall.
lol thought it was obvious i was joking saying this on a game where he played terrible. guess not
We don’t care
Yall fucking suck. Have you ever played a fucking sport? Not everyday is your day. He is a rookie and will learn from this. This sub is full of POS. The kid is 19 and held his composure in the biggest game of his life. Honestly I’m giving up on this society. Got a president who fucks kids and everyone wants to put down each other instead of helping others, fuck yall
He’s is 20 and will be 21 in August.
Coop is the one who will be 19 until December.
Your team won chill. Unless this is bait and then it’s 10⁄10. Cheers either way!
chill
lol
Don’t care, still ROTY, W
