But then he retracted from his report and tweeted

[Iztok Franko] ”I deleted the Luka injury news, as it turns out the injury update shared on the podcast was not accurate. Luka’s inner circle has since confirmed to @ArenaSport_SI that the original diagnosis and recovery timeline remain unchanged.”

Iztok is one of the most realible source when it comes to Luka, could it be possible that Luka reps contacted him to retract from his initial tweet. I hope Luka take this injury seriously even if it means missing the whole postseason.

I think your are right, it’s probably a Grade 2 strain which is 4-6 weeks and even then, high probability of reinjury (aka Nuggets).

As we saw last year in Game 7 with Aaron Gordon, you technically can still move on it, but there’s really no jumping. You also highly risk a grade 3 full tear, which is 4-6 months.

I am sure Luka is able to walk on it and is.shooting for a quick comeback, but you can’t change the face it’s still a Grade 2 tear

The track record of players I can recall recently playing on bad hamstrings (Gordon, Harden, Haliburton) is not very encouraging. On one hand they were all able to play but the injuries affected their play and ability to stay healthy even after they had full offseasons to recover.

Luka would be risking his health for next season if he tried to play in this playoffs.

A grade 3 tear would be better than a persistent grade 2 though. Grade 2s you may just never recover from but grade 3s heal more cleanly unfortunately.

You’re mixing chronic and severity.

Persistent partial hamstring tears can be very stubborn, especially when the tendon is involved. But grade 3 tears are more severe injuries, not better ones, and they do not generally heal “more cleanly.”

I’ve never heard of a grade 2 tear “never recovering” (could be, just have never heard of that)

It’s not so much that it becomes chronic but the re-injury chance with grade 2 because it doesn’t heal fully is just incredibly high. It’s really common in football and I would straight uo rather a player goes down with an ACL injury than with a grade 2 hammy.

I understand, I think, what you’re saying… but I would suggest that it’s because hamstring injuries are less severe that they linger more often. Especially in football but other sports too, a lot of guys try to play through hamstring injuries because unlike an ACL, it’s technically functional far before it heals officially. Similar problems exist for ankle sprains.

Then the hamstring never gets a change to heal properly and it becomes chronic. I would still say that ACLs and grade 3 tears are far worse as a matter of severity though.
