Maybe Luka’s appeal is granted but usually in legal documents similar language is about things truly outside the person’s control. Freak weather events, war breaking out, being kidnapped, a pandemic, etc. Luka having a child and traveling for it is much more of gray area compared to those.

They need to eliminate back to backs. The players unable to recover properly by flying immediately is an issue. Just look at Football (Soccer), the players who played are going to the team facility the day after a game just for recovery exercises and that’s by playing only once or twice a week.

Because it’s not a 65 limit. There are exceptions and more compliated rules than just 65 games limit. Some players might even play 65 games and not be eligible for awards, because of minutes played in those games.

The special exception was built into the rule when it came out. The rule was designed to combat load management, not punish players for missing games out of their control. We’ll see more borderline cases get special exceptions.

Smh what’s the point, soon everyone will be having children during the season so they can get in on 64 games played and 35.8 mpg as the leader in total points no less. This is surely going to be a huge issue if they allow it for Luka.

There are certain things I think the player shouldn’t be penalized for. Like the birth of a child or the death of a loved one. 

Right? Birth of a child gets excused, ok. What about your wedding? What about a sibling’s? Kid’s first birthday?

Either “personal days” count or they don’t. He missed 16 others games for other reasons. If you want to make the cutoff, make the cutoff. Maybe don’t get suspended for having 16 techs in one season.

cade also literally played in a 65th game but was hurt before reaching 20 minutes. if he was hurt in the 4th quarter, he would be all-nba. i just dont see how if they allow luka, they can deny cade.

Except it is not, there already are plenty of exceptions like only needing 62 if you endured a seasong ending injury after playing at least 85% of possible games at that point (Luka played in 84,4%) or if you played in 66 games but 3 of those were 15-20 mins only then you don’t qualify. Or in the case of Wemby, if you played in the In Season Tournament final (which doesn’t count as a regular season game), and play 64 games, then that one counts too and these are not even the only exceptions.

Actually, they don’t have to stand by it, which is why it’s in arbitration, they have the ability to bypass said rule if they want to. It’s not a law, it’s a rule that they made up, of course they can grant the exception. Will they? We’ll see.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the rule, but I don’t feel like this is particularly extraordinary. It was a choice.

I remember Gordon Hayward staying in the bubble in the 2020 playoffs and not being there for the birth of his child. It was a big decision for him at the time, but he had already missed most of the playoffs with an injury and the Celtics were going to the ECF.

Voters in this case should be able to determine if a player who played 64 games is worth of an All-NBA spot. Same thing in the instance of Cade. Maybe those guys shouldn’t be eligible for 1st Team, but they absolutely should make it

People are really just basing their “opinions” on disliking the player. They don’t really think players should be punished for having a kid or that 65 games of a role player is better than 64 of a star.

Technically having a child is not extraordinary circumstances. That language is mostly meant in legal terms like war, terrorist activity, serious security problems, outbreak of a serious disease.

Sometimes called act of god, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes ect.

Having a child doesn’t fall under the technical definition of extraordinary circumstances. There is a reasonable chance he gets denied. I dont think the NBA thought this rule would be used for child births. Its the NBA tho, its probably closer to ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ if Luka’s appeal is approved.

Because Cade and Ant don’t qualify for either of the appeal conditions.

Both played over 2100 minutes, more than 300 more minutes than wemby. These stat alone makes the 65 game rule very unfair
