No one is offering him 3 years/$90 million. He's a 31-year-old volume scorer who doesn't play defense, has never been seen as a winning player, and has an injury history. It's also a tight free agent market, there isn't much money to go around. I'd see him getting in the $15-20M per year range if he were a free agent this summer.

That being said, there’s no way he turns down the option.

Think you’re right. No longer is being able to jump like Jordan and hit a jumper enough. With the new CBA your expensive players have to be two-way guys.

I really wonder what Lukas deal is going to be. His effort and impact on defense was starting to improve. Not sure if it is enough to warrant a max contract. If you’re trying to win a championship. Not sure you can have someone like Luka eating up your cap and possessions. Might be the best offensive player I’ve ever seen but it’s not enough with today’s CBA. Especially if your back court mate is another ball dominant low defensive impact player. Lakers really have some decisions to make.

As far as Lavine goes. If he wants to win. He will need to accept a 6th or 7th man contract and role. He’d be a great bench piece for a championship team. Nice microwave scorer to have as a chess piece. Think he’d be great in that role for the Rockets when Fred comes back. Or the Magic. Could probably get to 16 or 18 points a game playing 24 minutes off the bench. Against the second unit, his defensive weakness wouldn’t be as impactful. What do you think?

Everything you said about his defense and health is true, but at the end of the day, he’s still an efficient 3-level scorer that can create for himself. There’s always a place for pure scorers in today’s nba; just not at 50 million annually. No team is trying to trade for that contract.

But say he gets bought out and a team could potentially pick him up for a mid-level type deal. The concerns are still there, but the risk becomes much more palatable. In that scenario, and maybe only that scenario, he becomes a pretty hot commodity.

It does seem he’s already allowed Perry autonomy after how glaringly bad the team looked after the start of the season. Got rid of Schroder, no win now moves at the deadline, buy low and hitting on players that were essentially out of the league, and giving the young guys priority minutes. Sure Westbrook, Derozan and Monk were still playing but they quietly got sat towards the end of the season. Truly cleaning house means moving Sabonis, Lavine’s, Derozan’s and Monk’s contract, but they are all net negative aside from maybe Sabonis who might fetch you something insignificant. So unfortunately, unless the Kings are looking to attach draft picks to their shit contracts, they are still year -2 from even starting their rebuild.
