This was also the highest scoring season in 65 years. Comparing raw points in a vacuum is dumb when teams score an average of 116 PPG and even 15 years ago that was under 100 PPG. You have to adjust for era, pace, etc. Its a lot easier to average 25 now than it was a decade ago

Everyone complain about players not playing. Put in a rule to encourage players to play more games. Now complain about the rule to get players to play more games (I also think its dumb)

Instead of trying to put bandaids on the symptoms, we should be trying to fix the actual problem, which is the grueling schedule.

If the goal of the 65 game rule is to encourage players to miss less games, then making an exception for exceptional players defeats the purpose as those are the only players in contention anyways.

Watching what I presume are mostly adults crash the fuck out over their favorite player missing out on adding a trophy to their trophy case has me in stitches. At least Luka can sleep knowing he has an army of grown men willing to spend all their time fighting for his right to receive awards.

Adrian Dantley was so underrated it’s crazy. Led the league in offensive win shares 4 times, but only made 2 all-nba teams. He didn’t really do anything besides score, but he’s a top 5 pure scoring talent in league history. His volume and efficiency out of isolation really has no rival except Jordan and maybe KD.

Putting up 30/6/4 on 57% from the field at 6’5” (63% TS with no 3s) and not even making all NBA is crazy. If he played 20 years later he probably wins a couple MVPs.

Ant and Cade deserve All-NBA but the only thing in the title that is of any actual significance is the scoring leader missing All-NBA.

And in reality it’s only because the NBA probably forgot to update the requirement for scoring leader to be at least 65 games, up from 58.

The 65-game rule is doing exactly what people warned it would, locking out elite seasons because of injury timing. Luka being the first scoring champ in 50 years to miss All-NBA is the headline but the Cade and Ant numbers are honestly more egregious. The rule needs to be revisited because right now it’s punishing the wrong players.

Only monsters put stats in pts/ast/reb. Cade did not average 9 rebounds per game you absolute menace.

The rule was put into to place to try and encourage players to play more games - so fans who bought tickets could see the stars play in person, or fans who paid for cable packages could see the stars play on TV. You know, all the “plumbers and fireman” of years past played in back to backs.

If I’m being honest, I’m very hesitant to buy regular season game tickets now, playoffs no problem. I didn’t subscribe to cable this year because why bother watching regular season when so many key players are out.

As a fan who has interest in watching the games with the full assortment of top players, I am wondering why there is so much anger and argument about the awards? Do you care more about who wins the awards over actually seeing the top players play?

Also if an MLB or NFL player missed over 20% of their games, they likely have no chance at top seasonal awards because their stat totals would be too low compared to the leaders. I don’t think many people would question it. So why do you feel differently for NBA?

This would all be a lot easier if the season was shorter. But that’s never happening. Obviously the game is more physically demanding now, and even though I despise the load management bullshit, these arbitrary rules that come with it are even dumber.
