[Charania] Joel Embiid (appendicitis) is not expected to be available to play in the 2026 NBA Play-In Tournament.
Some kid out there who bought tickets to the play in expecting to see the ironman Embiid. When will Silver do something about this load management.
It is funny to see the 6ers load manage him all year only for something completely out of his control that ends up putting him out at this time of the year.
Should’ve prophylactically gotten all his accessory organs removed in the off season
that will just cause a vital one to fail in compensation
Embiid is listed as out (Boneitis)
Just picturing Embiid looking for some appendix condoms and being like “man…wtf…”
If they didn’t want us to make condoms for them, they shouldn’t have put “dix” at the end of their name!
Funny is not the word I’d choose but IDC I’ve been numb for years at this point. I’m just glad VJ didn’t have any bowling alley incident or punch a fan or have a secret near fatal allergic reaction. There’s still time for him to forget how to shoot I guess or decide that he doesn’t enjoy playing basketball.
Did they ever figure out what happened to oubre with the bike? I feel like everyone thought it was a completely made up story and then everyone just dropped it.
Why you putting out these negative vibes out in the world like this considering your luck lmao?
VJ Ben Simmons-ing himself against Trae Young would be hilarious though. I wouldn’t have thought about it if it weren’t for your comment.
VJ wouldn’t. Dude is genuinely fearless. He goes for the poster literally every single time. The reports indicate his attitude/ethic is the closest we’ve had to Maxey….except he talks shit.
Clearly his Chi was blocked from missing 60 percent of his hot yoga classes.
It’s an annual tradition
As is tradition. Nothing will ever be worse than Markelle Fultz clocking him in the face
At this point they should just cryogenically freeze him until like a month before the regular season ends.
Divine punishment from Mr Silver for sitting out games
That little kid needs to learn ball if he’s buying tickets expecting to see Embiid play basketball in the year of our lord 2026
In all seriousness if Embiid plays at all this post season he is 🐐 ed in my eyes. Stroking out on the court two years ago and putting up 50 piece. If he comes back from surgery and nukes someone round 1 even for a game I’ll be good on expectations for his career accomplishments.
He’s already the 🐐 of Greg Odens.
For all the crap the man gets he’s played through so many injuries.
I’ll never forget the big man dropping 50 on the Knicks with a knee injury and Bell’s palsy. Biggest basketball what if, though I’m biased.
I expect him to push to play as soon as it is physically possible.
Whether or not he should, he always has.
I don’t think this original joke was hard enough to need /s after it
Some local Denver columnist is halfway through a hysterical piece about this kid
Yep, when healthy, it’s “He’s so UNWATCHABLE!!!”. When injured, it’s “OMG how could he duck this game and deprive the fans the opportunity of WATCHING him?!”
The paradox of Embiid hate - he’s “unwatchable”, but also it’s the equivalent to 9⁄11 if opposing fans don’t get to watch him play. It’s torture to watch him, but also fuck him for not letting us watch him.
Am I missing something or how did load management prevent Embiid from playing? Surgery for appendicitis is a legit reason to not play.
It wasn’t the most obvious /s but Ironman Embiid should’ve been a pretty big giveaway
Reading it again you right lmao that went right over my head
Sarcasm brother, Embiid has never been an Ironman lol
ironyman
Pfft Jordan one time played a FINALS game with the flu. Kids these days are as soft as my overpriced cotton candy that I’m going to have to eat now while Embiid sits on the bench collecting a paycheck!
Then that kid isn’t a real fan because he’d have known about embiid’s appendicitis already, knowing he wouldn’t be playing
Man I want you to get your team back but chill lol
That 65-game rule sure is working!
No shit, didn’t he get his appendectomy like a week ago?
Like 3 days ago lol it’ll be a miracle if he plays by like game 4 of the (hopefully) playoffs
Nah man. Let him heal up, don’t push it and retool for next year. I mean for what, you guys wouldn’t beat Celtics or Pistons anyway. Best deal is to just be one and done in the play in. Don’t mind my flair, not important.
Careful what you wish for we might just win the lottery :)
Trust the process
Let’s be real he ain’t gonna be healthy next year either
[deleted]
That’s not typical recovery for a hernia repair at all. That’s like… insane actually lol
Did you just want to tell everyone you had a hernia or something? I don’t see how this is relevant at all lol
yawh dawg SPEAKING OF EMBIID 10 years ago i had some ben and jerry’s ice cream, it was nice
I’m at the eye doctor right now. What does this mean for Embiid’s eyes?
Can’t be good
Maybe embiid should have some Ben and Jerry’s, he’ll be back on the court in no time
This is just like the time I banged Eartha Kitt in an airplane bathroom
Not the same surgery, but my cousin had a rectum repair and couldn’t even shit the same for 6 months. No one should be expecting Embiid to be exercising for at least a month after getting a whole organ/not organ cut out of him, lacroscopic or not.
Ehhh, I got my appendix out in 2018 and I literally just walked out of the hospital like 2 hour later, albeit with a fair bit of soreness. Appendectomies really aren’t that invasive. I was probably back to full contact sports in like 2 weeks.
Definitely a “modern medicine is crazy” moment though. I wouldn’t have predicted they could just take an organ out - even a small one - and be fully recovered so fast.
Depends on whether it had already burst and how they had it removed. Instances of athletes coming back in as few as 8 days but I think 2 weeks is more realistic.
We need to actually make it through the playin first before we start talking about whether he can come back by game 2 or 3 of the next series, considering how shit we’ve been a lot of the year it’s definitely not a given that we can beat the Magic in a best of one.
Yeah a healthy athlete could probably get back in like, a week or something from a non burst appendix.
If it burst though, that could be anywhere from “totally fine, give him a week” to out for the first two rounds.
They’re not saying what the situation is. As I understand it a laproscopic surgery rather than open is a much much shorter recovery period, and if they got to it before it burst it’s also a much shorter recovery period.
I think a professional athlete is going to push the limits (obviously) around playoff time, so if they got to it before it burst and it was a laproscopic surgery and we actually win one of our playin games then I could definitely see him playing by like game 2.
Who knows though with Embiid’s luck it probably exploded out of his stomach like an Alien chestburster and he’s out for the next 3 years.
It had not burst
yep same, i was like 13 years old and literally left the hospital 4 hours after my surgery lol, i was on my trampoline the next day
Carlos Sainz won a formula one race 16 days after appendictomy. I know it is very different, but driving an F1 race is pretty taxing on the body too.
Mr. Smooth Operator himself.
6 months?? Dude is your body decaying, typical recovery is 4-8 weeks from anyone I’ve heard get it and they’re in their 50’s. Not to mention it’s a completely different surgery and Embiid is a world class athlete
Eh they are really good and efficient at doing Appys now. Idk if it was realistic to ever think he would be back by the play in but if it takes him linger than the rest of April to heal I’ll be amazed
Had an appendectomy. Took me 2 to get to walking around and 2 months after to get back into sports and get in sports shape. If he did it laparoscopicly, that window is shortened by a lot
Had a laparoscopic surgery for my appendicitis. Took me 3 weeks to get back on the field and I still had to be careful with the incision spots.
yea incision spots hurt like a bitch with any contact, even after a year I could feel it when I pressed hard
Man I had this procedure and they don’t even want you to lift anything over 25 pounds till 4-6 weeks after. Always wonder why I never heard many nba players with this. Crazy it happened now
Yup, you could easily get a hernia in the incision sites. I got the same warnings.
Depends of the way it is performed.
If it’s by an exploratory laparatomy, well, you can’t do shit the next months.
I had my appendix removed. Took me like a week just to stand up straight, then probably another week or so before exercising again.
How many weeks before you swept the Celtics?
Couldn’t do that anyway, we got rid of Johni Broome
This is how I learn we lost Goati Broome…
I don’t think they completely got rid of him, just sent him to Delaware I think
A fate worse than death
Hey Carlos Sainz won the 2024 Australian Grand Prix 16 days after getting his appendix removed so 2 weeks is possible lmfao
Without in any way diminishing how athletically demanding it is to be an F1 driver, or how smooth an operation that was, I’d guess that playing basketball puts more stress on one’s abdominal muscles
If nothing else, Sainz talked about how he had to get his seatbelts altered and padded, because any pressure on the site of the incision was too painful, and it’s just not possible to avoid that in a contact sport when going for a contested rebound or defending a driver, or what have you
2 weeks? I had mine removed and couldn’t exercise for a month, doctors said 6 weeks.
Maybe it was closer to 3 in total but I had laparoscopic surgery and my appendix didn’t burst or anything. My appendicitis was very mild so maybe that helped.
Maybe you’re just built different brother
That shit still hurts after 6 months when doing full blast sit ups. This is just unfortunate for PHI. Mine was just infected and removes with minimal cut.
I was a college athlete when mine was taken out. Took me two weeks before I could even begin light practice. But this was 15 years ago.
That doesn’t seem typical, at least not recently. I had mine removed 30 years ago and was a few weeks out of sports, but modern ones are done laparoscopically with much quicker recovery times.
Yup, mine ruptured while I was at the gym lifting, was feeling weird so I went to the ER, they did a quick scan or something and told me I needed emergency surgery, 20 minutes later I was in surgery then woke up with 4 holes and recovery took about 10 days. Couldn’t sit up for the first 3 days and it got better and better. This was 10 years ago.
I had mine removed in 7th grade didn’t miss a day of school. Started feeling weird Monday parents told me I pulled a muscle at practice didn’t get better by Friday went to emergency room after school Friday got it removed Saturday morning went home Sunday night. Couldn’t lift anything too heavy for weeks but didn’t miss a day of school.
Same exact thing for me and i’m a fairly athletic person and it was a laparoscopic surgery
Apparently Minka Fitzpatrick suited up 8 days after. Crazy
Wow: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35047924/steelers-minkah-fitzpatrick-back-practice-five-days-appendectomy
One of the craziest things I’ve seen
Crazy
On a more positive note though, Zlatan was back to playing within 3 weeks after he took his out back in 2007, he missed just 2 league games. Embiid will miss the play-ins, but if they scrape through without him, there’s a good chance that he can play in the 1st round.
Embiid in another lifetime must’ve been some type of despotic tyrannical warlord who clubbed baby seals for fun to have this amount of bad luck
I hear you but he’s worth half a billion; was born in Cameron; didn’t start playing ball until he was 16. There’s a lot of run good in there
Right? This is far from one of the worst outcomes lol.
Yeah, I would love that kind of bad luck.
Poker player?
Yes unfortunately
God save us
I know everyone says skill game, but no one talks about the volatility in big hands. I’ve lost aces to kings three times in a row losing huge pots then when I suck out it’s only a 2 bug blind pot
and he didn‘t even need to lock in to achieve that
He absolutely did lock in lol
You think he just woke up and decided to be an MVP calibre player?
He’s the Jahlil Okafor of Cameroonians, rolls out of bed and gets MVP
he was already rich when he was fat always injured and his subway order got leaked
if he wasn‘t so undisciplined early in his career maybe he wouldn‘t have gotten injured all the time
He’s a 7ft tall player with a massive frame that started basketball late as a teenager
The dude missed his first two years as nba player and people acted as if he was the new Oden
If he wasn’t disciplined, do you honestly think he would have had an 8 year (and counting) career in the NBA? The majority of which he was a star player?
he was injured half of that time
one look at his body and i know he wasn‘t 100% disciplined
there‘s no need to argue - in no way would someone really disciplined get semi fat as an nba player
you can google his alleged subway order - that shit is crazy and we shouldn‘t make excused for extraordinarily blessed people
Lmao alright, didn’t realize I was talking to an NBA trainer here with an impeccable eye test analysis
You do realize that he won MVP and was an elite player for years? How do you think he accomplished that?
Mans going to war over Embiid lol
If he could waive a magic wand he would play soccer for real Madrid in a heartbeat.
as he should.
99.9% of the earth would rather be in his position
99.99999999999.
That’s actually too many decimal places and means less than 1 human in the entire world doesn’t want to be Embiid
believe it or not, the only person in the world that doesn’t want to be embiid is ben simmon’s left ear
I believe it!
99.999999999991?
you guys are so out of touch with comments like this
Yeah he must’ve been such an evil person to be getting paid millions to play basketball once a week
he was literally hitler
HE STILL IS
Man, imagine Embiid coming at you in Genghis Khan’s army or something back in the 1200s.
Embiid has already had some of the worst luck in his personal life, idk why it has to extend to his career too
He’s actually the luckiest motherfucker alive. His good fortune clears anyone you actually know. Half a billion to make summer workout tapes and get front row seats to 82 NBA games a year is sweet.
Yeah I’m sure he’d trade it all for his brother back buddy
Good joke though
[removed]
Everybody doesn’t lose their brother in a violent car crash at 13
Something tells me you skipped the empathy part of being a functional human
The type of person who takes this opportunity to shit on a player for having their appendix removed is just fucked up
If Embiid was truly committed to basketball, he would have had his appendix pre-removed last off-season
Very different scenario but astronauts actually do this
OK, but the timing of this is still impossible not to comment on.
Yeah, but assholes are taking advantage
impossible not to comment on.
i mean saying nothing is free LOL
im not even an embid fan but ?? no need to kick someone when they’re down
It feels like r/NBA is the hive mind of this type of person lol
Fax, hating embiid rn is dumb
I still can’t believe his luck in terms of health tho
Exactly. There’s too many other reasons to shit on Embiid. This isn’t one of them.
I can get behind that, thanks for being reasonable.
Dawg it’s just an appendix. Relax.
It’s fun to make fun of players they’re not real
Hope he gets healthy soon
so he can be hurt again n get healthy soon
why, dude has it made
Why recover from surgery healthy when you can end a successful career with complications?
Because he’s a fucking human. Do rich people deserve to be sick or in pain? What kind of comment is this?
Do rich people deserve to be sick or in pain?
That’s an entirely different discussion.
After the Celtics towel boys crushed a must-win Magic game last night, I genuinely think the 76ers will be okay..
The playoffs are a lose-lose for 76ers fans. Assuming they lose in the first round, they either have to lose to Boston or Tobias Harris.
Hey fans that go to the arena get to boo every tobias hatris posesion that counts for something
Why is this a news story? Appendicitis takes 3-4 weeks to recover from lol
You must still have your appendix 🤣
Injured right before/during the postseason again 😔. He won’t have too many more chances to play a significant role in the playoffs given his age. I truly wish the best for him bc he’s an incredible player when healthy, just absolutely shit luck each year.
I remember OG was out the entire playoffs with appendicitis during the Raptors championship run. I fear the same shall apply to Embiid.
Edit: Correction based on comments, it was a ruptured appendix, much bigger deal. Embiid could be better way sooner.
If Embiid missed the entire playoffs during a Sixers championship run that would be some monkey paw level shit but I would take it
OG’s appendix ruptured, which is a much bigger deal. It causes infection and can actually be life threatening.
Embiid was a run of the mill removal, which is more like a two week thing. In theory he really should be back by the 2nd round if the Sixers could make it there, possibly even mid-1st round.
OG’s burst and he had emergency surgery. Not the same thing at all.
I think his was a perforated appendix, which is way more serious and takes longer to recover, so I think as long as the sixers can hold on long enough, Jo can come back. Some guys come back in like under 14 days
Embiid will be out this year while the 6ers win the championships? Not that that’d happen but he’d get soooooooo much slander.
Sixers still winning that game 😂
Paul George legacy games coming up
Playoff P
Watching my Magic get boatraced by Celtics dude from the end of the bench was truly a miserable experience. Not so sure we’ll beat Philly, even without Embid
Turns out an invasive surgery that requires at a minimum weeks of recovery prevents a man from playing NBA basketball. Who knew?
to be expected
Magic vs Sixers with no Embiid…[insert Rock vs Cena meme here]
Wow. Ground breaking stuff Shams. Bet he feels better now after that morning tantrum. Probably took a nap after.
Okay, I feel bad now.
Well yes he just had surgery
Anunoby missed the entire 2019 playoffs with an appendectomy, so I have no reason to believe he’ll return
Anyone who thought he would be playing this week has not had abdomen surgery. He was cut open, an organ removed, and then sewed back up. I am assuming he would have had laparoscopic surgery, unless his appendix had ruptured or there were complications - then he is out for the season.
What medical procedure is left for him? Autopsy?
I had mine done during the 2016 playoffs! It was brutal! I was terrified to even walk for like a week after. No way he’s playing anytime soon!
Even if they made a deep run without him, it’s hard to imagine him being game-ready anything short of conference finals and that’s generous.
What? I was told appendectomy technology has a come long way that you can be up and about the next day after the procedure.
A laparoscopic appendectomy is way better but you’re still poking up to 4 holes into your abdomen. That takes time to heal or you risk hernias and other shit.
I’ve had the same surgery, it was two weeks before I could start rehabbing it. Even then, it stayed pretty tender for a while. Abdominal surgery of any kind is no joke.
When I got my appendix removed the recovery was pretty brutal so I’m not surprised Embiid can’t go.
I know this is out of his control but lol he makes 55M this year and has played 38 games. Philadelphia has paid him approx $54,000 per point.
Just a friendly reminder, appendicitis is a great one time excuse with HR but you can’t use it twice.
You know how this would read on 2k
Joel Embiid (who just got out of the hot dog eating competition) will be out of the play in tournament due to appendicitis
What a shock….
For a moment thought i was on nbacirclejerk
If you’re the Celtics you’re over the moon right now because you get a free sweep against the Magic now (or if the Sixers somehow pull it off, I doubt Embiid is back for that series either so it’s a free sweep against them too) whereas I can see every other series in the first round being a dogfight.
what a bum
Had mine taken out about 10 hours after playing a high school spring game as a junior (we had stuff year round)- was about a 10-14 day recovery before I was going full steam.
Tore a bunch of scar tissue in a rebounding drill my first day back at practice, that shit hurt almost as bad as the day before surgery.
He always finds a way.
Does this man have a body part that hasn’t failed yet?
Dwight schrute would play and win fmvp
Feel bad for him. He’s a part time player now and I don’t think you can ever count him to be around for the playoffs.
half a billion dollars BTW
Ok.
Gee. I’m shocked
Rivers was right….
What a f-n chump man they need you and you not available again
This needs an asterisk that says .. unless the 76ers play the Hornets.
That’s awful, oh well. The heat need the Magic to win because they just can beat them but they can beat the other teams, well other than the Celtics and the raptors lol
In other news, grass is green
Just a cursed career injury wise
He wasn’t playing regardless of appendicitis. Guy stinks and is a BUM
What
He needs to man up a little bit
I assume this is a joke, dude had appendectomy just a few days ago.
No need to mention all those playoff runs where played 40+ minutes on torn meniscus, orbital fractures, bell’s palsy… Dude is a fighter, but his body is betraying him.
