Shai loves the 10-16 feet midrange, he shoots 27.3 percent of his shots from there on a 58.6 percent clip.

Only 40 percent of Shai’s shots comes from 0-10 feet, whereas for Jokic that number sits at 59 percent.

To an extent the locations are similar but obviously the kind of shots they take in those areas are not

Not really, sga has siginificantly more 10-3pt line shots, while jokic has more 0-10 shots.

But the main difference is how they get their shots off. SGA self creates a much bigger amount of shots and gets to his spots in a different way

It actually seems really good when you look at who has a high and low expected percentage. Almost entirely chuckers and high 3pt volume shooters at the low end of xFG, while its centers and dunkers at the high end.

Just surprises some people Jokic’s expected percentage is so low because there’s propaganda where people say “he’s a big, it’s easier for him to be efficient” constantly on here, when in reality he takes a shot diet nowhere near a standard big and with a much lower expected percentage. Also puts his shooting touch into perspective, nobody was close on FG+.

And indicates somewhat of a fall off post injury, his percentage was a few points even higher before and it came down, I was tracking this through the season

Yeah whether or not it surpasses Jokic doesn’t really matter, they’re both so highly effective and efficient it’s genuinely nuts they’re playing at the same time and peaking together, albeit Jokic is a bit older (but honestly his athleticism has little to nothing to do with his game)

And OP provides no justification as to why those attempts ought to be excluded or why and how fouls on threes are adjusted.

I’ve read through the DunksandThrees documentation a fair bit before, but as far as I can tell they’ve never said how their calcuation fof TS% is different or that it’s any more valid. It seems like maybe they just use a slightly different coefficient instead of 0.44, and if that’s the case… then there’s really no reason to believe that it’s somehow more true at all.

So no, OP did not explain why this is more true or less approximate than other sources.

With all due respect all this glaze of regular season numbers is dumb. Last year efficiency king scored 29 PPG on 46% shooting. 3 less PPG and 6% worse shooting. Each free throw attempt is treated as .44 shot attempts. So a standard 2-shot shooting foul equals .88 shot attempts. This gets balanced out by and-1s, 3pt fouls, and technical fouls

Alternatively, you can have a site like OP is using, dunks-and-threes, that calculates it directly instead of using the approximation. They will go through each game individually and treat a 2-shot foul as exactly one attempt, and a 3-shot foul as exactly one attempt. They treat and-1s as part of the regular shot attempt, and they ignore technical fouls iirc.

The .44 approximation is pretty darn good tho, and it’s a lot easier to use, so most people just use that

Everything else has SGA at 66.5% TS because they estimate the free throw based part of TS. This is the actual way that TS should be ideally calculated.
