I think the Finals give the impression the Pistons ran through the playoffs but also in that run a 47 win Nets team pushed them to 7 and Jason Kidd was playing through an injury that required offseason knee surgery.
They were also 2-0 against the Pistons during the season, though both of them were really close
As great as that Pistons team was a lot of their legacy hinged on them being a perfect counter to the Lakers (who also had some injury issues). Kidd injury in 2004 and then Wade injury and Pacers brawl suspensions in 2005 definitely were some lucky breaks for them
their big advantage in that matchup was that KG and Cassell were basically unstoppable in the midrange playing off of each other (they were both tops in the league for percentage and volume), one of them got a good look and were hitting it basically whenever they wanted
The pistons had an unreal defense, but really it is pretty much impossible to take those type of shots away
Pistons easily have the better and deeper roster, but prime KG is head and shoulders above everybody in that series (and the whole league and one of the most 2way elite primes ever), it would have been fun either way
