Luka Garza is an ice-cold white boy. People forget because limited athleticism prevented his game from translating well to the NBA, but he was unironically the best player in the NCAA in 2020-21. He shot 3s, he dominated the paint, and he was absolutely clinical with his back to the basket. Get him in a situation where his quickness/agility aren’t a factor, and he can absolutely still channel that.
He’s unironically one of the best stretch 5 shooters in the NBA this year!

I know it’s 1 game but I always kinda liked garza. I feel like if Celtics hadn’t traded for vuc they’d have been better off just giving garza his minutes, it’s not like he was terrible to start the year.

They are different types of bad defense, but honestly Garza and Vucevic really haven’t provided different levels of defense this year.
Garza physical limitations are quite apparent, but he’s been a smart defender this year that hustles like crazy and Boston is aggressive enough with their scheming that he doesn’t get abused that much. He still a bad defender but probably now like a 20th percentile guy instead of a bottom 5 percent guy like years prior.
I think Vuc might have a higher defensive ceiling once they develop some chemistry, but Vuc got injured just after he got traded so he hasn’t got a lot of run with the team.
So both guys aren’t great at defense. So it comes down to what you want more. Vuc is a better passer, post up player, bigger body, and defensive rebounder. Garza has more hustle, a great screener, and is an incredible offensive rebounder. It really is a take your pick.
Garza is a pretty good player but his feet are pretty slow. That combined with the logjam the Wolves had at center meant he didn’t see much of the floor. But glad to see him get way more playing time in Boston.
First off, I love Garza’s energy, and that it’s well documented that he’s one of the hardest working guys in the league, and that commitment continues in Boston…
however, I saw a comment awhile back that said “every time Garza runs down court, it’s like watching a new born giraffe find it’s footing”, and I will never be able to unsee that.
