For the 18th consecutive season, the Detroit Pistons fail to win 50 games
BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO SKIP THE 50s AND GO STRAIGHT TO 60 WOOOOOOOOO
DREAM SEASON!!!! 14-68 two years ago to 60-22 today. Unbelievable turnaround
Last time they won 60+ was 2006 season
Lord I’ve seen what Joe Dumars can do for other people, and I want that for me.
Just need to get the man a second phone
I don’t get it tho
There’s a famous picture of Dumars talking on 2 phones at the same time, and it’s been subsequently memed to shit
I thought he was joking about the Dumar leaks to Woj back in the day
you once you get it
lol that man signed Charlie v, ben gordon and then josh smith on his way out.
I appreciate the masterclass moves that brought us the 2004 chip but he put us in purgatory after that team eroded away post 09.
Hope you’re referring to the first half of his GM career, post-Chauncey is when the team started falling apart. Dumars sucked as a GM after that
And LeBron almost single handledly eliminated them as a 21 year old!
Pistons are one of the pillars of the nba and deserve to have an elite team. Happy for yall!
Agreed. They were never a team I wanted to make fun of no matter how bad they were. The 2004 pistons is one of my favorite teams of all time. I love an NBA with a good Detroit.
Same here even though they whooped us in 04 lol.
Man that series was what sports is all about though. The blue collar underdogs who have no shot, no mvp player, goes against the dynasty that’s unstoppable. Even with Shaq and Kobe having problems, nobody thought we could beat y’all and we did it in 5. Making sure the child pedo retired without a ring is the cherry on top.
child pedo as if there are other pedos lol (fuck karl malone though as a lakers fan im so glad he didn’t get 1)
Same
Detroit is one of those cities that makes the sport better when they are in the playoff hunt, same goes for the Lions and the Red Wings
Just don’t ask how the wings are doing
With how great it has been to be a fan of Michigan sports lately, I’ll take a few setbacks tbh
Dead wings
I honestly don’t think it’s as bad as the past few choke jobs personally, the division was brutal this year.
I think it’s worse tbh. They were at the top of the east near the end of January and this is the 4th year in a row they’ve collapsed in March. Something needs to change.
Always fun watching the Tigers beat the Yankees in the playoffs
Hopefully JV gets better and gets one last playoff victory against the Yankees
Even the city gets better when their teams do good. Crime fell during the Lions season for the last few seasons.
Tigers erasure
To go from five seasons of 20, 20, 23, 17, and 14(!) wins to 60 with a single gap season of 44 wins between that run and this season is truly remarkable. What a turnaround. Congrats to them and their fans.
This is crazy to see because you get the feeling they underachieved. It just feels like every player could take another leap next year.
Congrats to the Pistons for a great season.
What makes them a “pillar of the nba”?
I see them as being part of the big 6, the same way the EPL in soccer has their big 6. Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Pistons, Spurs, and now the Warriors. They’re the most successful franchises with memorable teams.
Seriously, congrats to you guys! Hell of a turnaround for your squad, hope Cade is doing well enough for you guys to tear ot up in the East!
His shot diet ain’t quite right yet, not really driving yet but I imagine that’ll change for the playoffs.
Im taking it as he’s getting his shot confidence up leading to a more stable shooting overall so they’ll respect it anytime
I feel people are sleeping hard on the Pistons and just talking about the Celtics Cavs and Knicks the East playoffs is looking very very good
It’s completely understandable, playoff basketball is very different so will be interesting to see how they go
True, but the Pistons do have a true superstar in Cade, which is the biggest requirement for being successful in the playoffs.
True, but everyone else having one or two (Celtics) as well means experience is a big factor.
I’d love to see the pistons make the Finals, but just to your point, if everyone has a star or two experience matters that much more
On top of the Pistons having known playoff savant JB Bickerstaff at the helm
They have the 3rd best center in the league and a deep bench.
The only others in the East with one are the Celtics and Knicks
i mesn two say d mitchell is a superstar. Not to mention those are the true contenders, no?
And all three have more playoff experience. That’s all I’m saying.
harden/mitchell
Cade has been the best player in the East all season long. Duren has been the best Center in the east for the past 2 months. The Pistons have the star power to compete with Boston and probably more star power than both Cleveland and the Knicks
Agreed. Not really a big deal no one is picking us to go super far.
I mean, there’s no real reason yall shouldn’t make the ECF. Hornets would be a tough 8 seed on paper and Cavs a dangerous 4, but you’ve been better than both all year. A duel against perhaps Boston would be harder
I actually feel pretty confident against the pistons with our guys in a series. We showed out against them and barely lost a game with our hospital squad in overtime.
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted, I hate it but that is objectively what happened. I would not be confident at all going into that series.
A lot of pistons fans on the sub are really defensive and feel like they have something to prove because you guys were so bad for so long I think. I don’t think anyone wants to hear that we match up pretty well against you guys. I think it would be a good series though if nobody is hurt.
Probably goes for any fan base I guess, I’ve never had any issue with being objective and realistic about my team but many do for some reason.
You know what, I hope you’re right 😂
Cades injury just seems really scary. I think if he wasn’t injured then they’d be more in the top tier conversation.
Good news! He’s no longer injured and has played 20+ minutes each of the past 4 games
Yeah, as much as I love the team..I’m a little concerned this is like OKC from two years ago. Best in the west, looking incredible all regular season, but when it came to the playoffs they lacked the experience to make it past the second round. Hoping I’m wrong of course, but playoff basketball is a whole different beast
It’s more likely that happens to the Spurs this season than the Pistons, the Pistons at the very least have playoff experience from last year
Last year series against Knicks were insane and imo Pistons were better, too much refball in Knicks favor. Hope we get to see some payback from that.
The knicks are ass
Feel like the Hawks are a pretty weird matchup for them. Lots of good defensive guards to throw at Brunson but KAT and Mitch should feast on the interior.
I was praying they would end up 4th so we would play them 2nd round
You should pray to be eliminated before meeting us for that absolute asswhooping
[deleted]
You guys talk about the playoffs like you’ve won shit
Lol? It ain’t that serious, I’m just saying that there’s been plenty of young teams in the past that didn’t live up to their regular season record in the post season. It’s dope to see Detroit doing well and you should be proud of your team but you ain’t gotta be an asshole about it
last year was their young team finds out year though. this year Cade turned in what should’ve been an award-winning season and the team cooked even with injuries upon injuries.
This is true and the most important comment in the thread.
We don’t say Detroit vs Everybody for nothing
Everybody says that, it’s getting old and cliche
Shut yer trap
No one cares what a Boston sports fan thinks except other Boston sports fans. lol
What a crazy thing to say as someone who reps the city of Detroit and lol’s his own comments on Reddit.
Knicks have no shot. They cant beat Detroit or a healthy Boston
They can defo beat healthy Boston. Detroit on the other hand iffy not saying they can’t but Detroit just matches up well against em
Until recently we thought they were gonna be out Cade all playoffs which would not bode well
Their shooting is a big question mark. They also get to the line more than any other team, which could be a problem if the playoffs are allows to be more physical. On the other hand, they’re also one of the more physical teams in the league, so maybe opposing teams will shoot fewer free throws as well.
Every single podcast basically skips over the pistons and goes straight to all the other teams in the east as if it’s laughable that they could come out of the conference.
They are comfortably 3rd for me in favorites to get the chip. It goes Spurs > OKC > Detroit for me.
Yeah but Bickerstaff is the coach. He’ll fall flat in the playoffs.
Pistons fans get real defensive if you mention it. They need to see it for themselves.
One of them replying to me got so defensive he blocked me lol
Maybe but its not like you guys didnt any better in the playoffs last year after replacing him.
You’re right, and I’m not convinced our coach now is the real deal either. Our team has motivation/attitude issues and just shits itself in the playoffs despite being capable of a lot more. I fully believe that comes from coaching.
JBs problem is that he can’t out coach anyone in a 7 game series to save his life. His half court offense is still bad, his playoff rotations are bad, and he historically can’t adjust to another coach countering him at all. Maybe that’s different now, but I doubt it. We’ve seen him be exposed in the playoffs before.
We get it, you guys hate him but he’s made the playoffs 4 times. He got knocked out by the 72 win Warriors, the champion Celtics, and the 3 seeded Knicks with a team that won 14 games the year before.
So yes, maybe he got exposed the other year in the 4⁄5 matchup with the Knicks. So he’s 1-1 in 4⁄5 matchups and lost the other 3 series as underdogs.
The same 3 seeded Knicks that proceeded to get wrecked the next round lol. We could have gotten more than a game on the Celtics then too, plus we barely beat the Magic the one time he won us a series, and they weren’t even good. Again, things could magically change this year, but I wouldn’t bet money on it.
The 3 seeded Knicks did not get wrecked the next round, they beat the Celtics and then put up a better fight than you guys against the Pacers. What are you even talking about?
The Magic series was a 4-5 matchup. Those usually are close.
Sorry, we were talking about the Cavs, so I was thinking of our matchup. We won 51 games that year, I think it was 2023, played the Knicks in the first round and absolutely got dumpstered.
Which is why I said that thats the only series where you could even argue that he got exposed. He was a pretty big underdog in the other 3.
More like Cavs fans trying to convince themselves that firing him was the right call
My brother in Christ, JB has never done anything significant in the NBA until this season. Even then, he’s never done shit in the playoffs. He had years with us to make something happen. Please don’t act like he isn’t a known quantity, he’s been a head coach for almost a decade now.
A lot of us predicted he’d be good to get you guys out of the gutter because he did exactly that with us. Nobody said he would be bad for a young, shitty team like you guys two years ago. But you know what happened next? He shit the bed in the playoffs and got exposed multiple years in a row.
No one predicted that he would ever get 60 wins either, you keep saying “floor raiser” but he just led a team to a 60 win season and the 1 seed. He took a 14 win team and won 44 games with the exact same roster last year.
The Cavs never do shit in the playoffs without LeBron dragging their asses to finals appearances, so not the best judge
And with us, he took a 22 win team and won 44 the year after. Then we won 51 games. It’s so similar that you’re deluding yourself if you wanna act like we haven’t seen this show before. I’m not judging the Pistons, I like your team. JB is ass though. You have to see for yourself since you won’t believe the people that have already seen his bullshit in action.
Funny that you immediately got super defensive just like I said too lol
His best season in Cleveland was 51-31, he had never had a team finish higher than the 4th seed(and went 1-1 in 4⁄5 series). He didn’t “playoff choke” with you guys (or us last year, was 3-4 unlucky bounces/calls away from upsetting the Knicks).
If anything, your choke last year was far worse than any “choke” JB had with you. The 2024 Celtics he lost too only lost 3 total games that entire run(1 to the Cavs btw) and were a dominant team the entire season
You don’t have to put choke in quotes, we definitely choked with JB and last year.
Again, cope all you want, you’re most likely not going to have fun with playoff JB. Maybe I’m wrong and you can think about how dumb that one Cavs fan was, but I wouldn’t bet money on JB.
Losing to the 64-18(and 16-3 in the playoffs) Celtics is not a chok
So it basically comes down to a single series that he lost as a 4 seed to the 5 seed Knicks that gets him this reputation
JB deserves coach of the Year, I know he isn’t coaching an apron team two years after winning a championship that has had 11 consecutive winning seasons, but tripling your win total and then the next year adding 16 more wins on top of it. You should get some recognition.
I won’t hate on Mazzulla because I totally understand his candidacy, but if you had the Pistons sniffing 60 wins in the preseason you’ve either got a magical Orb or you’re full of shit
I think it also needs to be said that JB was genuinely a great coach this year altogether, not just a “glue guy” or someone who benefitted from a great roster, but outside his deep infatuation with Caris LeVert he was genuinely phenomenal handling lineups/ATOs/the-bench/etc. Such a great coach
I think the fact that they went 13-5 without Cade should solidify him as coach of the year
I think celts win tonight gets mazzulla the award and i think he deserves with what our teams expectations were, but also will not be upset or surprised if JB wins it
So Bill Simmons basketball guru and noted Boston homer had the Celtics over their 41.5 win total and the Pistons under their 46.5 total, just saying not everyone thought the Celtics would be mediocre and the Pistons good like the narrative says now.
Honestly either of them winning would be fine. The pistons have certainly turned things around and look like a strong contender for the next few years at least.
There was a ton of talk of Pistons being stagnant or even regressing going into this year with Beasley, THJ, and Schroeder all leaving.
Having over 41.5 sure but no one had them with 56 wins. Either way though Detroit coaching staff is deserving of the award. San Antonio too probably
Nobody had Tatum coming back and playing the last 20 games of the season while playing at >80% either. They played 1⁄4 of the season at full strength essentially. Easily could have been closer to 50 otherwise.
But cavaliers tell me he a bad coach 😂😂😂
Bad playoff coach. He’s always been a good floor raiser, he gets meaningless wins in the regular season. He did it with us, too.
They’re doing it throughout this thread. And in every Pistons thread ever. They are big mad about him finding success in Detroit.
The thing is JB is a really good coach for young players and getting them to take that next step in their game with his system. After seeing him in Cleveland, it makes complete sense the Pistons are doing really well.
The problem with him starts now. In the playoffs. Where teams can study and prepare for 7 games against the same opponent. Where he has to make in game adjustments with massive implications. Historically this is where the warts with him start to show up. When teams can punch back, JB doesn’t have a counter.
And by “historically this is where the warts on him show up”, you mean 1 playoff series 3 years ago.(which was a 4⁄5 series btw) Maybe JB will be a choker this year, but when you have a sample size of 1, it doesn’t prove anything
He’s never had a regular season this successful before. Hes never been above a 4 seed in the playoffs, the choking narrative just doesn’t make any sense to me
He went to the playoffs twice with the Cavs and they lost in embarrassing fashion both times, which was why he was fired. It wasn’t that they lost, it was how they got beat.
Got embarrassed 1st round by the Knicks 4-1 when the Cavs were the higher seed–then followed it up by getting pushed to 7 games against a upstart Magic team in the 1st round before getting annihilated by the Celtics 4-1. The only reason they weren’t upset by the Magic is because Donovan Mitchell went super saiyan in game 7 and dropped 40.
Not saying he can’t grow or things will be the same, just pointing out the reason he was available for the Pistons to hire, was because of his playoffs failures as a Cavs coach.
i really don’t think there’s a wrong answer between bickerstaff and mazzulla- they both have a strong narrative and strong results.
i would love joe getting it, but i’d bet the pistons’ run for the one-seed without cade locked it up for JB
Sorry but it shouldn’t be anyone else. Cade goes down and the train didn’t slow down. What more would he have to do beyond what he did this year to get the award? If he doesn’t win it I’m not convinced anything beyond going 82-0 would get him the damn hardware. lol
He is getting some recognition
ROFl I got baited before clicking the thread
I’m concerned that you believed the Pistons were below 50…
me too
I mean I don’t really follow NBA much so when I saw this I was like ‘damn I thought the pistons were kinda doing really well’
You know…I want the biggest thing….
Red Wings in the playoffs?
it is insane to think theres a generation of people who have never seen red wings in the playoffs. They were like the spurs of hockey
Never had the 1OA and weren’t gifted it during our beginning down turn, nothing like the Spurs.
Spurs move up more picks on average per lottery they are in (1.5) than the Pistons and Red Wings have moved up combined (1 total spot to get Cade) in their ENTIRE LOTTERY HISTORY.
I meant that they were very consistently contenders for a long time and had some all time greats although none were super flashy style of players and were well coached
that’s how I interpreted it. 🤷♂️
It’s the other way around.
He said biggest thing, not most improbable thing.
We all know Ausar wants the biggest thing.
I could definitely see this year turning out to be a rematch of the 2005 Finals, Spurs v Detroit in a hard fought 7 game series
Rather it be like ‘04
we’re not gonna make the finals tho
Trust in Bronny
The last time the Pistons faced a Lebron James in the playoffs didn’t end well for them.
The last time, the time before that…. and the time before that lol
But four times ago we got him! (Barely, lol).
Unc terrorized the Pistons my whole damn life. lmao
I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of LeUnited States of LeBronnyca
It’s going to be Celtics-Thunder and y’all will groan.
Please anything but this.
The best thing that can happen to NBA right now honestly.
While missing cade for 3 weeks at end of season too. What a year for them
Still remember how down Cade was after that 28 games losing streak. So glad he is leading his team to the first seed.
The narrative has almost turned into a badge of pride for the young guys. It’s a pretty incredible narrative.
Congratulations honestly, I’m happy for you, I know the feeling.
Reminder that we lost more games during a 2-month period 2 years ago compared to this whole season.
November - December 2023 we lost all but 1 game on 30 December against Toronto.
We even kept several core players from then in Cade, Duren, Ausar, Stewart and Sasser.
Crazy how quickly things can change in this league.
68-14 next season?
Happy for Detroit. What up doe!!!
Good bait good bait, hope Cade comes back and runs the East.
i still love you duncan. you’re missed
We taking good care of him here bro
if we don’t make it, i’m rooting for y’all
His shot is so sick. People know…or they will soon.
From a 28 game losing streak to this in 2 years. It’s insane.
Congratulations. Well-deserved.
They explicitly did win 50 games.
Deeetroooiit basketaball’s back baby
Happy for them. Deserved.
ditto bro, legit from 2-26 to this squad now is crazy
What cutting Killian Hayes does to a team
Wait y’all are trying to WIN games?
Well done
Jazz best be taking notes
I hope they get Cade back and make crazy noise in the playoffs
He’s played last three games.
I love my life 🥹
WTF 😭
One of the worst Pistons seasons ever two years ago, formidable playoff team last year and a great season this year with a #1 seed in the playoffs. This is a great turnaround and not just a one year flash. This is a young team with a superstar and a lot of upside. As a longtime Knicks fan I’ve seen this before. Get taken out by Detroit for a few years and then Chicago gets really good and then before you know it, Jalen Brunson is playing for the Seattle Supersonics.
Going from 14 wins to 60 in two years is one of the wildest turnarounds in modern NBA history, and Cade is still only 24. Detroit fans waited a long time for this and they earned every bit of it.
Monty Williams should be tried for his crimes to the Pistons and the NBA.
Always love to see this type of turnaround while still keeping the core group of young guys. Patience does pay off and it’s something not every franchise understands. Very well deserved.
Nice bait OP
👏👏👏 congratulations I hope you win
So they won 49 games and then won 51?
Lol goddamn Uce you got me
Congrats, crazy turnaround for the Pistons! Just recently they were towards the bottom with us lol
why do the Pistons not simply win 50 games? are they stupid?
That’s fine, neither did Minnesota. Both teams will be in the Finals.
Lmfaoooooooo you got me
So happy to see the turn around and see how a proper rebuild is done. DETROIT BASKETBALL!!
I cut off all my family!
Really hope Cade is good to go in the playoffs as you guys are such a fun team.
What’s unbelievable about a team picking in the lotto for a decade and winning games?
From getting 28(?) Straight losses to this, that’s cool
Grats to your fanbase. You guys earned it!
I hope they meet Boston in the ecf
I love that Bulls fans must also hate this which makes me happy
Yes. Yes. Yessssss
It’s amazing how far they’ve come since 2 years ago
As a Bulls and Suns fan,, I’m happy for y’all 🐎
Growing up, the 2004 pistons was my favorite team to watch. Each of the starting 5 was such a character. Loved Ben’s Afro. Basketball is better when Detroit is good
From historic losing streak to this, feels good baby. The Lions and Red Wings died for this.
How did that happen? I’m happy though I really want a Spurs/Pistons finals.
Cade 4 MVP
Allat just to get swept in the 2nd round
That’s the first season since last 15 years I didn’t follow this team closely. So you’re welcome, guys. I might watch the next season tho.
That’s fucking right. I skipped 50. I am a fucking legend. I’ve never SEEN a 50 and I never fucking will. 60 baby. Til’ the day I fucking die. YES! About time I get a fucking lucky break in this fucking game. Motherfuckers! And I CLUTCHED the goddamn last game. That’s FUCKING right. I’M A LEGEND. I AM A FUCKING LEGEND.
I AM A FUCKING LEGEND.
(pretend I have a pistons flair)
All this effort just to get swept by the Hornets in the first round.
Watching them choke in the first round will be fun
Any bets, Knicks fan or Celtics fan fellas?
