He isn’t getting penalized for it, in fact, it’s BENEFITTING him in this race, because that is one of the main talking points people have for taking Kon over Flagg to win ROTY. Both players are very deserving and one is obviously gonna be screwed over, I’m just saying that Flagg shouldn’t be penalized just because his team is worse and trying to tank. If Flagg had a better team, who is to say he wouldn’t have better efficiency? Teams gameplan for him specifically. Of course, that is only a what-if.

At the end of the day, kon is averaging only 2 points less than cooper, on roughly 7% better TS%. I have no doubt in my mind flagg will end up being the better player in the future, but if kon doesn’t win this ROTY, it’s a straight up robbery, and it’s all to do with reputation frankly. If it were derik queen putting up flagg’s numbers, nobody would think about voting him above kon.

And I would usually agree that we can’t judge rookies too much on team record, but it ahould be a major talking point, considering that frankly the hornets are just that much better with kon. He’s exceptional.

If Kon put up these numbers on a team that wasn’t winning, they would be hollow stats. We have no doubt Flagg will be great, but if the Mavs were in the hunt for the playoffs, would he have such a long leash. Chet Holmgren was the #3 option on a 1 seed (was the 10th seed the year prior) and the defensive centrepiece on a top 5 defense (average defense the year prior). He was absurdly more efficient than Wemby, had less than half his turnovers, and played 11 more games than Wemby who was on a 60 loss team.

Hes been consistent but his highest of highs were a few games where he scored 30+ . last dozen and more were very average compared to his early games.

Great guy but idk if he managed to continue getting better with the season.

He’ll probably continue to improve, but Kon is definitely a lot closer to his ceiling than Cooper. I’ll respect it if the ROTY goes to Kon for his all-time rookie shooting, but I’ll think the eye test clearly shows Cooper to be the better overall player.
