People don’t even find 1st seed match ups interesting, I don’t what point you are trying to make there. Sometimes a 1st seed doesn’t play a good team until the conference finals.

But back to what I was talking about, the Play ins have in fact ingnited the back half of the NBA season. Only on rare occassion did we see teams push through 40-50 games to fight their way into the playoff race, now it’s a yearly occurrence.

On top of that, the fight to stay out of the play ins is just as interesting. Watching matchups between closely seeded 3-6 teams is amazing.

The play ins gave over half the league a genuine incentive to fight and compete for the back half of the year. Used to be a 10th seed 3-5 games out of the 8th seed just folded it in. Now they’re playing hard as fuck every game. It’s awesome.

MLB has implemented a pitch clock and now ABS, and the sport is growing so much. The league is actually making direct, positive changes to the sport to make viewership better. I watch nearly every Dodger game for 6 years now, and less and less Laker games with each passing year.

Meanwhile, the NBA just chooses to remain stagnant against all the complaints. It won’t be long before popularity declines beyond recovery.

This is a problem with watching end of season games in just about any league or sport. If a team has its playoff spot and seeding locked up there is no reason to risk your best players in a meaningless game.
