Victor Wembanyama after being asked about the environment
Can this guy say something wrong for once lmao, hes nigh impossible to hate
He’s French
Wemby smokes cigarettes confirmed
He’s got ennui about it.
I actually love the French and hate the English so this is a plus for me
As french it’s good to see somebody finally seeing who the true villains are
always a pleasure to see the perfidious Albion’s goons in the mud, always treasure those moments
Bitchhhh, you guys had an empire too!
yall are both villains in the big picture. it’s okay
You love the French, hate the English. I hate them both
We are not the same (I am a certified hater)
Fuck the English. Thats where the most bullshit ass philosophers that tried to create a divide in the field. French Philosophers remain in a class of their own in terms of aura (this is of course, just in the matter of philosophy; i am not gonna gloss over the pedophile stuff, that shit was crazy, but Deleuze my favorite philosopher was GOATed and not a pedophile so give him A break yeah).
I never thought my boy Deleuze would be mentioned here, I’m in tears 😭
Even the pedo allegations aren’t really credible, they were merely signing a petition to equalize the age of consent for hetersexual and homosexual people - the former was 14 and the latter was 18 or something like that.
the Deleuzian Hooper, the desiring machine baller
you would nevver hear a single person outside of france say this in europe lol its so funny how americans love french / accent but europeans hate it more than anything.
Nb asked for your opinion
It’s given freely to educate the dumb and aggressive like you, you lil jit
I’m a certified fr*nce hater and even I have to say this dude has earned his arrogance
Why do you hate France?
Maybe they’re French. No one hates the French more than themselves.
Damn French, they ruined Frenchland!
I love their fries though
Most likely from a lifetime of murican propaganda depicting the French as pussies for liking things like peace, unions and socialized healthcare.
lol. Big freedom fry guy
I hate them because my country has been a victim to france’s colonial legacy that most of African countries suffered through .
I think it’s French people that lots of people hate. I’ve traveled a lot in my time, and the French are the rudest, most arrogant people I’ve ever encountered.
you must’ve never met an Israeli
I’ve traveled a lot as well (including to France three times) and I’ve never experienced the common take that French people (or New Yorkers for that matter) are rude so I’ve always found this opinion interesting.
The tourists I see met with disdain (not just in France but throughout Europe, N America, Asia) from my observations have been aloof/entitled about expecting locals to drop everything to figure shit out for them at best, or outright obnoxious at worst.
the rudest, most arrogant people I’ve ever encountered
Old Europeans on a cruise ship. It doesn’t matter what nationality. Not so much anymore, but if you find yourself in between an all-you-can-eat buffet and a woman who grew up rationing food during World War II, prepare to be trampled.
Funnily i thought it’s the Americans
Yeah thats what makes it confusing
Oh. Trust me, some people will have a problem with a simple statement like “we shouldn’t destroy the environment”.
It’s crazy to me that we can all universally root against the evil, chemical-dumping big-business tycoons in TV shows and movies, but then a subset of the population will turn around and fight tooth-and-nail to defend corporations’ rights to do the same thing in real-life.
I think it’s crazy that protecting our planet became a political thing. I’ve actually convinced some people of my more environmentalist views by simply saying “if you believe God created the planet for all its children to live in, why shouldn’t we take care of it?”
I don’t think we need to be tree hugging hippies to just, you know, do basically recycling and shit like that.
I mean each and everyone of our lifestyles supports it too. Do we like meat? Driving cars? Electricity? Electronics?
Corporations, lobbying, and politics all play a role, but consumerism drives most of the damage to the environment.
So I would say it’s not that crazy that people defend corporation’s rights to do whatever they want because we are funding them.
I can already see the ‘how many private jets do you own’ tweets cooking.
Some people in America perplex me ngl
In terms of politics, the people here seem chill
The “and yet you participate in society” meme is perfect for that
“Do you hate growth and capitalism bro? You must be a poor communist!”
Hey get those politics out of my sports
when Shai breaks Wade’s 06 free throw attempts, Wemby might say something controversial
r/NBA when anything happens: “Fuck SGA tho”
Let’s find out his stance on the moon landing. I got burned unexpectedly by Channing Fry last week on that one.
Seeing as he’s visited mission control during the summer, and filmed a personal message to the Artemis II crew, my first suspicion would be that he suffered from a traumatic brain injury lol
Would you say he has a sophisticated speaking style?
I like Wemby, but you can already tell that some fans are gonna turn the whole online discussion super toxic. And folks will hate Wemby just bc of that.
If Victor has an off playoff series or a really rough game and San Antonio doesn’t at least get to the conference finals, there’s going to be a lot of stupid haters on here using his confidence as a weapon against him
He’s a super likable interesting star. But the nature of sports is that there will always be someone out there who’s going to hate you no matter what
For God’s sake, I used to getting arguments with people who said that Tim Duncan was “ arrogant” and an asshole lol
yes he’s taking a stance on things, that’s probably already enough for people to start turning on him
Britney Spears would like a word
Oh trust me.. Reddit will find a way. Tons of people were calling him an arrogant SOB just the other day when he responded that he would be surprised if he wasn’t the unanimous defensive player of the Year
I think he’s awesome. He’s genuine, he’s well spoken, he has a lot of interest outside of basketball, and as is customary with a super duper star… He’s ridiculously confident And charismatic
That there are some people that choose to view it as him being arrogant and self-centered and full of himself
Two more years of this kind of play and people will start hating. Happens to literally everyone.
I can’t wait.
I remember this sub literally saying this same thing about Gianni years ago lol
Why is he on the Spuuuurs🥲
“Also I don’t like French people”
he begs for awards
Do you know what “beg” means?
Do you?
What award is he begging for?
Award? What are you talking about
are you deliberately trying to upset me
/s right? He was asked to state his case for MVP by a journalist
You’re right, he clearly should have responded to “ State your case for why you would deserve the MVP” with “ oh no good sir. Oh no! Oh no. I definitely don’t deserve it. Oh no sir, not at all. It needs to go to SGA 100%! I’m just a humble little friendly fella who’s so happy to be here and play the game of basketball. No sir, I shall not answer that question!”
Come on now. He gave a measured well thought out response to a question
Wemby is who JB thinks he is
I was gonna say exactly this but it sounded a little rude
accurate, but a little rude
Kyrie as well when in reality he just read The Alchemist for the first time in his 20s
Lmao I just love that reference. And I love that we are most certainly from different countries and we read it in different languages but it still had the same meaning everywhere
Kyrie is one of the only nba players to speak up against genocide while we have active nba players who were in the idf and sheep’s like you can’t see trough the mainstream narrative. They hate too see a young black man educate themselves
Him and jaylen dabble in a lot of harmful conspiracy too. You can be right on some things and wrong on others. And being right on one thing doesn’t absolve you of criticism of everything else you do or get you a free pass.
Oh and what are those conspiracies? Calling out a group of people for having disproportionate amount of power is harmful?
Didn’t he share a book and movie on his socials that explicitly denies the holocaust happened?
You have “Kyrie fan” in your bio so I won’t change your mind but even if you cast aside his comments that promoted a book that denied the Holocaust (which you shouldn’t, because it’s incorrect and incredibly harmful rhetoric to promote) his antivax stance and promoting the flat earth theory was incredibly dumb, misguided and did way more harm than it could ever do good.
Which group of people are you speaking about?
Kyrie shared a documentary that claimed black people are the real Jews and were the victims of a massive replacement conspiracy perpetrated by Jews
You can criticize Israel and obviously Jewish people are allowed to be criticized too, but you just mentioned false narratives in your own comment. Maybe look at what you believe and think critically about how much evidence you have on what the “mainstream” might view as just anti semitic and non evidence based. Black Israelites or whatever kyrie posted is not real for example.
Lmfao, straight up antisemitism, not even hiding behind antizionism.
All the covid conspiracy stuff wasn’t great. Saying we didn’t land on the moon or that the earth is flat wasn’t great.
So many things wrong with this comment you just wrote. You have absolutely zero idea what is happening in the world around you.
Malcom x would’ve supported kyrie
No he wouldn’t have. Malcom x was actually educated.
LMAO
You recognize dumb people at the fact they’re trying to claim what the deads would’ve said and thought.
Brown has launched a program in Boston with the Holidays that’s in its second year of granting $1mil a year
Facts I was gonna comment the same thing. No need for false comparisons.
You’re actually not allowed to compliment someone on here without putting someone else down in the same sentence
You’re actually not allowed to praise a person’s good deeds while holding them accountable for the misinformation they spread while having a high profile.

Nah… you mean the guy who went to Berkeley is not an intellectual ? He went there for the education, right ?
Jb is African American . Wemby is French I wonder if that has anything to do with your beliefs 🤔
I mean Jaylen Brown has had a lot more time to display his, at best, pseudo-intellectual nonsense. We’ll see about Wemby.
JB is African American, Wemby is African-French, you are plain stupid. One of the three stands out in this narrative.
you know it does
I know a company
Another 100 billion to Kawhi
The translation isn’t fully accurate but he corrects himself in a really great way. At one point he says “But I wish… actually no not even I wish, I want to make an impact”
Good guy Wemby, makes me root for him even more 🥺🥺
Damn, he really a good guy
Love having Wemby as the face of the Spurs. Just an overall good guy.
It’s so nice having George, David, Tim, and Wemby as our Mount Rushmore and the faces of our franchise. Having good dudes that you can be happy kids look up to as your team’s Superstars is underrated. Plus all the other good dudes like Manu.
People underestimate the importance of having dudes like that in the locker room. You can see the way the team vibes and follows their leads. Guys don’t want to let dudes like that down and you don’t have to worry about them pulling a Plaxico or some shit.
A good leader on a sports team is not just the best guy, it’s also the guy who sets the standard in terms of work ethic, communication and professionalism. There are exceptions to this rule, but these teams usually don’t last very long. If you want to be successful over a longer period of time, you need a culture setter. This also applies to coaching.
The Spurs are the house that Pop built. You can feel his influence in everything they do. And they’ve always been a well-run franchise, even before Pop arrived. They’re basically the Anti-Clippers.
Yep.
Acknowledging your negative impact and then trying to find positive retribution. I love the self awareness.
I don’t think I will ever dislike him.
Freak of nature and an overall good guy. You love to see it.
These kind of questions need to happen more often. And more to the owners, not the players. But a great response, none the less.
Owners, players, the PR team prepares them all.
Sure, but at least the issue is being talked about.
more so to you and the rest of us supporting these industries with luxury carbon emitting lifestyles that pollute the planet, just as much as the people we pay to burn the carbon so they can go play a ball game in another city and be back home tomorrow.
Am I hallucinating or is everyone here fluent in French? What is he saying?
Translation right under
I wish the whole question was translated too!
“Victor, good to see you. On the protection of the environment in the NBA, I’d like to know what message you have on the environment and what you think the NBA can do to improve it’s carbon footprint as one of the most polluting leagues in the world.”
Word for word : “I’m writing an article on environment protection and the NBA, and would like to know to what extent do you care about environment and what do you think the league could do better to lower its carbon footprint, knowing that it is one of the most pollutting leagues in the world.”
Ooh ty! Do you know the reporter’s name so I can follow him?
It’s hard not to like this guy
I think he will start getting hate the moment is starts winning chips. “He’s great, but how many can he get? He’s not as good as x HoFer because y.”
I hope he doesn’t because I think he is great for basketball and the more positive feedback loop we can give this guy, the better the sport will be.
I agree but the hate will come, it’s inevitable and sad actually
The minute he starts winning chips, or the minute. He has a really rough postseason for sure
If San Antonio doesn’t make it to the conference finals this year, you’re going to see some really silly things start to pop up in online discourse
And God forbid they actually win this year so early in his career, to your point, you’re going to start to see a whole lot of fan bases. Turn on him immediately
You know what’s sad? Even this kid, who’s doing everything right and by the book, the media will build him up to an impossible standard and try their hardest to bring him down.
I love Wemby, and I hope that doesn’t happen to him. Hopefully he can win a chip soon so he won’t have to deal with the first wave of that storm
It’s already started to some extent. They’ve realized that he without fail answers questions with what is actually on his mind, as opposed to the canned, PR non answers that most athletes/celebrities are trained to give.
So you’ll see more and more media bait (opinion on Minneapolis protestor/gov conflict, opinion on best player in the league, “give me 3 reasons why you’re the mvp”, “will you be surprised if you’re not unanimous DPOY” etc) looking for any material from him that can be thrown into the talking head cycle to rage/debate about.
Granted he’s still on the upswing in popularity/likeability overall, but he definitely has a growing legion of social media haters when mega stars are usually still in a full on honeymoon phase in year 3.
For the love of f, don’t people have anything better to do? Leave the kid alone…
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if Victor is not the next LeBron when it comes to social media discourse. A guy that just has a ungodly massive fan base, but an equally massive hater base who make their entire personality off of trying to troll him.
Dudes a legitimate role model
Title made me think someone was axing about the San Antonio environment and them big ole women 😂
Them San Antonio women contributing to carbon sequestration, storing large amounts of organic material
Their methane emissions are an issue we need to be comfortable having an adult conversation about.
Good stuff Wemby. On a much smaller level, same.
I hate using literal oil for a living. Unfortunately all alternatives (done properly) are unaffordable for most people. Someday I’d like to play at least a small part to help change it, but far too small atm.
Normal individuals and small businesses aren’t the problem.
It’s the shit happening on an industrial scale and the billionaires funding politicians who fight against environmentalism that are the problem.
Solid answer. Not hard to root for this guy (Warriors fan here)
I’m a Spurs lifer who’s favourite non Spur is Curry😂
Kid has a good head on his shoulders. Couldn’t have asked for a better future face of the league.
He’s so mature, hard to believe he’s as young as he is
Basketball is incredibly fortunate to have Wemby as one of its leading players. As well as being an amazing athlet, he is such a likeable, intelligent well rounded, down to earth guy.
He seems like a very thoughtful and intelligent person, kylian mbappe is the same way. Those frenchies are doing something right over there
His morals, sense of responsibility, and desire to do good are equal to his basketball skills. Impressive person, we’re lucky he exists.
He is a malignant sociopath running PR campaign for himself by catching an easy fish like you
Lol take it down a few notches there
At worst his impact is a drop in the ocean.
Especially when the flights would be happening regardless
The whole thing is a scam anyway.
You see how quickly Bill Gates and the other elites pivoted away from net zero once they realized how much energy would be needed to fund their AI empires?
Tbf Bill doesn’t work for Microsoft or any tech companies anymore and hasn’t in a while. He retired quite a while ago to go fuck about with Epstein and Woody Allen and bang Russian honeypots.
I think you’re misinterpreting their actions. It’s more indicative of them understanding that addressing the crisis challenges the system they benefited so much from, and them not wanting to abandon that same system.
If you’re talking about net-zero specifically being the solution to climate change being a scam, then yes I agree. If you’re saying climate change itself is the scam then we’re not on the same page.
I’m talking about naked self-interest masquerading as concern for the planet.
Remember when they were jet setting to Davos on private planes, eating caviar and filet while telling us to eat bugs and we will “own nothing and be happy”? They supported Draconian restrictions on every facet of modern life when they thought it benefited them. Now they’re against such measures because it doesn’t. Hypocrisy doesn’t get more blatant than that.
How anyone can take seriously their sky-is-falling proclamations on global warming or any other issue is beyond me.
Yeah I think we’re agreeing here regarding the self-interest; it’s infuriating. Once again can’t help but feel like you’re misinterpreting their actions, though. They only want people think they care about the very real issue of climate change because it makes them look good. They are aware that any legitimate solution to the crisis challenges their ability to accumulate wealth as freely as they have done in the past. That’s why their actions do not reflect the level of concern they want you to believe they have for the planet.
Yeah even if you got a majority of global society to go super green and become very environmentally conscious on an individual level, it wouldn’t really do much. It would obviously be GOOD, but the the main polluters on the planet are so far removed from the public’s control that it would take a fundamental restructuring of politics and government on a global scale to root them out.
Going green is a luxury of wealthy countries. It makes us feel like good people. When poorer countries try it (Sri Lanka for example) it leads to disease, pestilence, famine and death.
There is a direct correlation between a societies INCREASE in fossil fuel use and an improvement in their standard of living by every conceivable metric.
Also it’s not like there is another option for traveling during the season or across the Atlantic to France during the offseason. And if he does fly private I think it’s understandable for an eight foot tall dude who just survived a blood clot last year.
Just a genuine, good, humble and solid character dude
[removed]
Bar
He’s the ambassador that the league so desperately needed to come after LeBron.
I hear there’s a company out in LA who plants trees for endorsements
the spurs literally transitioned from the iceman to the admiral to the big fundamental to captain planet
what an absolutely fantastic answer. this guy seems really sharp
Wemby is my Aragorn
Such a good guy. In comparison, few years ago M’bappe was asked pretty much the same question by a journalist and his response was laugh his ass off with condescendance.
The Big Recycler
Aspiration, sign this man!
I mean, yes. But seeing as the NBA season is 82 games, I’m not sure it was specific to how many flights he actually took/takes lol. Seems much more likely he just threw it out as a ballpark number with some grounding.
I could be wrong though.
God I love him so much
I love this man
It’s not big corporations at fault for the climate it’s nba players flying that’s what’s causing global warming!!!!
I don’t know if you know this, but the NBA is a big corporation. The reporter was asking about the NBA’s carbon footprint, not Wemby’s specifically.
I don’t think Wemby has anything to do with any of the tech bros and garbage team owners destroying the environment.
I don’t think him telling Betsy Devos she’s a fucking cunt for working hard to destroy the world will do much to change her nonsense or telling the Adelsons to get Bibi in line will get them to change either.
I guess it’s a good thing that’s not what they asked him about then
Troll, get back in your hole
lol, accidentally walk by a mirror when replying to me or something?
I’m sure a couple hundred guys taking flights is what’s causing global warming I agree.
You are fair to point out that large corporations and logistics contribute more to global warming than flights for nba games specifically, but there isn’t really one “cause”. What he said is still admirable about wanting to do things that are in within his own control
One day you’ll realise we are powerless
I’m not naive to think that wemby has the power to reverse course on global warming. But your overwhelming nihilism only hurts any attempt to correct course.
I mean, if you’re putting it in that context, then no one is at fault for global warming. “I’m sure a couple thousand families taking flight to Disney World is what’s causing global warming.” You can apply that to any sub-group. The truth is we all individually have a small impact on climate change, but when you add all billions of individuals together it become a huge and overwhelming impact.
It’s not like one specific thing is causing it, it’s an aggregation of all of the choices that people make on a daily basis. The NBA understands the issue and has already begun to take steps to lessen their contribution to total carbon emissions by scheduling the teams to play multiple times over the span of days in order to reduce the amount of overall travel that the players do. They wouldn’t be doing that if they didn’t see it as their responsibility to lessen their own carbon footprint. People love to quote the stat about the large corporations being the majority contributor to carbon emissions without connecting the dots that the emissions that are being generated by these companies is partially due to the overconsumption of their customers. If there wasn’t demand for the products these companies create, then they wouldn’t be polluting as much as they are.
And the question was too leading. Like yea, NBA has more impact than other leagues in the world because it’s played across the US.
I’d imagine the French basketball league simply can’t have the same impact due to geography alone
When he said there’s more to me than being tall, i didn’t get it at 1st, but now I’m beginning to see the vision
He’s a thoughtful guy, that’s why I’m a fan.
He’s just so polished
For those who come after.
Why the F are we asking this guy about the environment reporters man
Actually super based. At the very least he is aware of how frequent flying impacts our earth. So much respect
He’s so likeable… to balance this out he should be a laker
Wemby please, I can only love you so much 💓
That’s it.. he’s my goat
Why do we care about what a basketball player thinks about the environment
How is the weather up there?
Well, in terms of propositions it’s a pretty empty statement, but coming from him I believe he’s sincere and he’s just too young and hasn’t figured out what he can do. I don’t really believe in the “plant a tree, balance your carbon footprint” thing, though. It’s not magical like that, although to a certain extent it does help. Using different kinds of fuel can help, I think.
Anyway, I like that he’s not being just dismissive of it.
Lebron and Curry fans licking their chops to buy his jersey on DH gate
I need a Nico guy for Spurs, and maliciously trading Wemby to GSW 😂
Could stop eating meat but that won’t happen will it
the type of “guilt” you feel where you don’t try to change anything, keep doing what you want to do, but “feel” a precious way about it and tell people about your feelings. this is right in line with the mainstream on human-driven climate change so it’s appropriate that we’re applauding this trite, cliche response here.
we support luxury lifestyles like this in all American professional and collegiate sports leagues, condemning the future while mumbling some half-baked daydream about “tech” or some other deus ex machina saving us eventually, so we don’t have to make any hard decisions.
Vic’s ability to express himself this well in a second language going back to when he’s 19 is just too impressive.
Well he is saying this in his native tongue
Ugh am a dummy and assumed this was in English cos I couldn’t hear the video in a loud public space
I expect to see Wemby walking to all the ganes from now on. Shouldn’t take long with them long ass legs!
I think I finally understand French arrogance.
What was he supposed to say? “I don’t care about the environment?”
We hyping up basic PR prep now.
I’ll present you Kylian Mbappé :
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62809829
I mean, half the league seems to believe Earth is flat and a few thousand years old and oil isn’t the remnants of dinosaurs and other living things that called the Earth home millions of years ago.
So I think a lot more players than you’d think believe climate change is a hoax and there’s nothing wrong with burning coal and doing a million other terrible things to the planet.
This is your own fault, you didn’t realize you were browsing /r/wembanyama
He’s the golden boy.
The bar is so low lmao
It’s a sad combo of parasocial relationships and celebrity worship.
