Luka has his faults, but he’s very relatable. A kind of every man. Shai has that peacock tropical feathered Lannister air about him. He knows he’s better than everyone else, and wants everyone to know it.

Even funnier is Jaylen Brown complaining about not getting calls. 

The repetitive troll farming that is the online discord now is a constant stream of misinformation so it is not the PR that is the problem, it is the way people hatch onto narratives that only tells a small part of the truth that is the problem in my mind.

I think most people also view Luka as a generational flopper. I don’t view guys like them, Brunson, Avdia, or even Austin Reeves any differently. They all llive on the bullshit (or at least the threat of it). Just different shades of the same color.

Jaylen Brown is different but I also don’t love his whistle. He shoulder checks guys all game and is buff as hell and never gets called for offensive fouls

NBA discourse exists on narratives. SGA doesnt really foulbait any more than other superstars, he just ‘flops’ more and has egregious lowlights. There are countless clips of him flailing around and making stupid faces as he falls down. 

The obvious comparison is Luka who foulbaits more than Shai, but sucks at flopping and does it less often. A post about Luka’s whistle will just point to stats, which doesnt hit as hard as a picture of Shai in a contorted position with his mouth open. 

I think the memeable ness of his embelishment sometimes adds to the hate. You have guys screenshotting when he makes these weird faces sometimes and funny contortions and that gets shared all over and people clown on that

For as much hate as he gets for free throws Shai is tied for 8th in the league and gets the m fewest among any of the real MVP candidates (Cade, who deserves a few third place votes, is nowhere near the top 8, but he’s also nowhere near a real candidate for the award, which is wild for a 60 win player but this year we were blessed with a lot of talent.)

He’s a certified foul baiter now. I’m not sure what you’re watching. I use to love watching him but its getting harder. All he does his grind up on players and yells out “HEY” after each shot.

I was thinking the same thing, he does like to get the bump but the suns rarely win the ft battle.

This needs to be higher. Out of the 4 top MVP candidates, SGA draws the fewest fouls per minute, and is ever so slightly ahead of Jaylen Brown.

People talk about narratives and agendas, but this is what it actually looks like when one is constructed and pushed.

Yeah, this is the issue for me. I don’t care if one team gets a lot of FTs as long as the same fouls are being called on both ends, it’s when you get crap like 9 FTs vs 44

Not really. He’s an extremely efficient free throw shooter so he usually takes all the technical free throws as well as end-of-game free throws when the opponent is intentionally fouling. Not to mention the fact that he’s third in field goals attempted per game among all the players in this list.

SGA also shoots techs and gets more FTs on late game situations. Many of these high FTs dont shoot techs and arent the ones getting most fouls out of late game inbounds.

Those two things add nearly 2 FT/game to SGA for example. Would need to check the numbers for the others
