It may be more impressive, but it doesn’t seem to add as much value based on most of the advanced stats. Maybe they’re wrong, but offense is more important than defense in this league. You’re also discounting that Shai has twice the assist rate with a lower turnover rate and a higher true shooting percentage. He’s a lot more efficient on offense.

Playing less minutes makes the production more impressive comparatively. Ofc you can argue defensively that it keeps him more fresh at that end.

But as for the impact, if you’re that impactful in the minutes you’re on the court to where you’re able to play less minutes, that’s a ton of value… we saw a similar thing with Giannis the year he won mvp playing the lowest minutes of his prime years. That’s clearly happening via the eye test and all the impact stats back that up

Wemby only plays 60% of the minutes in a game and 80% of the games this season. He’s been on the bench more minutes than he’s been in the game.

Hakeem & Jordan played 85% of the minutes in a game and 99% of the games in the season in their DPOY years.

He cannot physically defend the other team from the bench. If wemby could handle playing 48 mpg every game, he would because that gives them the best chance of winning.

& comparing offensive stats in an era where league avg TS% is the highest it’s ever been (highlighting rules that favor offense more) and an era with a much faster pace than 90s ball isn’t a 1 to 1 comparison.

The same people that argue that pacing doesn’t matter when comparing modern to 90s ball will turn around & discredit 60s players “inflated” stats because of pacing. Can’t have it both ways.

No, ²⁵⁄₁₁ is better production in 30min than 40min. Because in one case, it means a sub has spent 10 more minutes on the court, and likely has done at least some plays if we look at subs average stats.

For me the best way to compare the influence of 2 players with a big difference in minutes is adding the league average stats for his position backup to the first player stats for the remaining minutes. A full match is 48min and teams aren’t playing 4v5 once their star is sitting, they are just playing with someone that isn’t putting star-level numbers.

For starters, no, because pace and era matter. Wemby is playing in one of the most offensive eras in league history, so 25ppg is much easier today.

You’re also posting in a thread that is ostensibly about the value of defense. More minutes per game is literally more time providing value on the defensive end of the court.

Still, Wemby is absolutely in the conversation with multiple all time greats. If he can steadily increase his mpg, he’s going to win multiple MVPs.

There’s give and take on both points.

For one, pace means that scoring 25 a game is easier, but defense is harder. Wemby is doing more in 30 minutes than Jordan or Hakeem had to in 30 minutes. Jordan could take plays off when his man wasn’t on ball for a possession, and Hakeem had less floor to cover and easier looks to defend.

More minutes per game can dilute impact because as minutes go up, fatigue sets in and value per minute drops. When they were playing 120 possessions and 48 minutes a game in 1960, Wilt wasn’t as good as basically any modern stars on a per minute basis because he had to pace himself for a lot more work, and it ends up cutting into your impact to play too many minutes as much as it does to play too few.
