People underestimate how low the level of play in the G League really is.

Some guy called Cameron Parker is playing decent minutes for the Portland G-League team and just recently scored in double figures against the South Bay Lakers.

Same guy was waived from my local second division European team earlier this season because he couldn’t score to save his life and was a negative on defense…

And that’s just one example. Mac McClung would probably average 6PPG in Euroleague, if that.

Yeah, G League has a ton of raw athletes, but the quality of play just isnt there (kinda by design). Its a developmental league where each guy is working on themselves, rather than the team

The league really has abysmal team defense to the point where it feels like its just teams are trading fast breaks back and forth.

You’re athletic and can run a fast break? Can do decently in the G League. But you need a hell of a lot more in your game to do well in any decent European level

its about style of play, pace. euroleague plays way more slower, half court basketball.

gleague is full of all americans, fringe nba players. so its much higher skill and physicality than ncaa, but they play at full pace with terrible defense so it resembles pick up basketball a bit too much.

mac mclung almost had a triple double in an nba game. if he wasp laying for the nets at high useage he could put up numbers, but like cam thomas its rare to let a guy do all offense unless you’re a star level output or you have some lou iwlliams jamal crawford role. but as alex caruso said you’re trying out to get a janitor spot, last few roster spots/dirty work.

I think big part is Lonzo plays a style of basketball that didn’t quite fit the Cavs. Lonzo loves moving the ball very early and quickly, but it didn’t really match the pace of rest of team.

I play like that too (at a much lower level) so I kind of understand.

I think the ball will (or should) always travel faster than a player, so I would rather everybody continuously move the ball with purpose (like Spurs 2014 or Bird Celtics or even 2016 Warriors).

But most teams always have a couple of guys that like to beat their guys, drive and force the collapse.

End of day, both are important but I think Lonzo steered one way too much that it’s hard for a lot of teams to adapt to his playstyle.
