[The OGs] Udonis Haslem: “My kids even won some money on that shit. These little apps out here, people said I was only gonna score like 5 points [in my last game]. What the fuck? Of course my kids took that bet.”
FBI swarming his place as we speak
Revoke the championships!
Release the Haslem files!
I see no problem with this, the president of the United States himself does that shit all the time.
Bro posted the ticker symbol for Palantir today in hopes that it would raise their falling stock prices
Insane lmao
Yup, politicians are all insider trading
It’s not even technically illegal for members of Congress to insider trade. Of course if you want to get that changed, you’d have to go through… Congress.
Congress keeps trying to fix this but they keep getting stopped by Congress
We’re all trying to find out who did this
Facts
I forgot where I saw this video awhile back but I think it was a professor speaking about how to fix that, basically he was saying what legislation could be instituted to make this transparent and hold them accountable and tie that into their terms
Of course like you said they’d stomp that real quick
It’s no wonder that all of them are filthy rich but their salaries don’t add up to their net worths
The real rugpullers
Why do u think they made a big deal of the fake ceasefire with no hard documents?
Don jr doin blow on a table in Miami tryna log into polymarket account and bet on it while furiously texting hegseth for th exact hour there would be a ceasefire
Hey man, the parts of the cease fire agreement Trump read looked good. It’s not his fault the parts he didn’t read were never going to work!
Sportsbooks being assessable from your phone is the most predatory part of gambling.
Just wait until you can Klarna your bets
They’re even accessible on phones these days
You can see the live thought process of UD going “am I saying too much and about to get my kids picked up by the FBI?”
The fbi already knows. That’s teams had a file since 06
I feel like it shouldn’t be as big of a deal to bet on someone outperforming. Kind of like that football player the other year who’s name I’m blanking on that got caught cheating but only bet on himself to win.
Its not good to allow it though. What if Lebron’s son bets a million dollars that lebron will get over 30 or 40 in the last game of the season cause he knew lebron wanted to up his averages. And then LeBron knowing his sons money on the line just chucks up shots until he makes it. Obviously their what ifs but you start creating loopholes and people will keep taking advantage.
But LeBron still has to score the 30 which isn’t an easy thing to do. Players are supposed to score a lot of points and win games the issue is when they start playing worse to win bets. To a certain extent it’s no different than giving someone a bonus for performing well.
Someone scoring a bunch on bad efficiency can be detrimental to the team, else Cam Thomas would be a billionaire.
The only thing I could see athletes reasonably betting on is their team to win, but I’d rather it was just banned entirely
What happens when LeBron hurts himself playing 45 minutes in a blowout to make sure he hits his over on points?
He can finally retire
tbf the sports books usually know this kind of info, too. also it would be flagged if a big bet like that happened.
Ppl always say this, but you have to really think it through. You cant have ppl betting their own overs, or their friends/relatives doing so because it now gives that player a vested interest in playing in a way that may be to the detriment of their team.
I then hear ppl say something like “Yeah but what if they’re betting on rebounds? What can be bad about getting more rebounds!” or replace that with assists or whatever else.
The problem with that can be the player not being in the right defensive position or purposely breaking team strategy (like switching off-ball to stay near the basket, then their original matchup pops to the perimeter and has a mismatch against a weaker defender) because they’re concerned more about winning the bet than winning the game.
“Not as big of a deal to bet on the over” doesnt matter because it’s inherently antithetical to the objective in team sports, playing the game to win by any means, perhaps sacrificing for the team if-need-be. Once you introduce ulterior motives then you’ve threatened the integrity of the game.
The other argument I hear is “But what about players that are hunting stats for their next contract? Players already do that so what’s the difference?” The difference is there is no way to police that; gambling is pretty straightforward to not allow.
You know there is just straight betting on wins and losses too? Not everything is essentially an over/under bet. I believe that’s what the poster was referencing.
I have no problem if a player takes the straight bet for his team to win.
The examples you give i completely agree with anything inherently that will shape how you play like betting on points even in a win can inherently shape how you play. But just betting on your team to win is ok with me and its essentially the only bet I would ever be ok with.
I feel like sports betting should just be abolished.
Yeah, the answer isn’t Sports Betting but with different rules. The answer is to abolish sports betting.
Go back to the before times when you couldnt do it from your couch and betting anything more than $10 cash to your friend Jim was a hassle.
This would be a big help for society
But it would still be a problem facing the NBA, because illegal gambling is a big enough deal you’d still have to watch out for players throwing games/leaking info
Absolutely, was still a problem in the 90s and 00s before iPhones.
I mean there was always a way to bet good money if you wanted to lol. it just wasnt as simple as pushing a few buttons on the phone.
Which is what my second paragraph said, did you make it that far before pressing Reply?
Should have to place bets in person at the very least.
Oh yes to be clear I am very anti-sports betting and would gladly welcome it getting banned, but my point was more betting on unders is clear fraud
Yeah I see all these people defending it saying that when it was illegal it was so much worse.
Which I just don’t buy.
There was always shady shit going on but now there a ton of shady shit and it is mainstream
it was fine when we had bookies that were a pain in the ass to contact.
Pete rose in baseball comes to mind
Calvin Ridley
Eh, it’s still rightfully a situation that the leagues don’t want to deal with. It’ll remove simplicity & create more work for those involved, also if it goes beyond just winning as well such as “I’ll have over 50 yards receiving” or something, you could say that it happened naturally but that player could be pressing the QB to get his numbers more so than they might usually & could create another facet of game manipulation.
Just seems like a can of worms the league doesn’t want to deal with. This is clear cut
I just googled and his kid is a 300 pound OLine. did not expect that.
Meanwhile Haslem looks like he’s on wegovy in that jersey lol
Look up Haslem when he played in Flordia. Dude was HUGE
I think he lost weight when he played overseas after going undrafted
He shouldn’t have said that out loud. Don’t want to mess up future business opportunities like that Amazon Prime analyst job he’s got. Adam Silver only has himself to blame for getting in bed with sportsbooks, but he’s determined to walk that line to get that gambling money while keeping up the appearance that everything is above board in the NBA from an integrity standpoint.
Is he fucking stupid? Only the president can openly commit fraud. Bruh
This shouldn’t be what he is thinking this is
Don’t let Kash Patel see this
im sick of gambling
lol that’s good motivation actually
i feel like stuff like this is the bigger concern and more widespread with gambling than athletes actually trying to bet on themselves. its not realistic to try to get players to prevent all the people in their life from sports betting, but it still is a bad look for the integrity of the league if you have a cousin or something who bets on all your games.
The issue is that the cousin has insider info
