[Highlight] 9 years ago Russell Westbrook breaks the single season triple double record and hits the game winning deep three to eliminate the Nuggets out of a playoff spot.
The most fun season I’ve ever watched from a single player. What a ride
Westbrook won ~10 games single-handedly that season by completely taking over down the stretch. Some of the most clutch basketball ever.
Clowns online tried saying he was a bum
“Free throw merchant” is the new “stat padder” insults from nephews
Because they never actually watched him
2015 Steph would like to have a word.
Nothing will be as electric as watching 2017 Russ.
Thunderous you could say
You already forgot about 2016 Steph lmao
That guy was actual bullshit.
Hoisting up shots from anywhere that you KNEW were going in, unlike Westbrook’s where it was more just a happy coincidence.
WHAT A PERFECT ENDING
The deep 3 giving him a 50 point triple double on top of the win is so on brand.
People forget that he was also the NBA scoring leader that season.
It wasn’t just triple doubles. It was 40 and 50 point games left and right.
Crazy. Imagine they paired him up with James Harden. They’d be unstoppable.
or Nikola Jokic. It’d be sextuple doubles every night
Yeah imagine if he played with like half of his contemporary hall of famers, he definitely would’ve won a chip
TO A HISTORIC DAY!
If I had a nickel for every time an OKC MVP point guard hit a game winning 3 against Denver on their record setting night, I’d have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice
Fantastic call for this moment. I watched live and I was beyond hyped
Nephews can’t understand how electric this man used to be.
0 to 100 REAL quick. A man that gave everything every single night. It might not have been perfect, but you could never say he didn’t do everything he could to win.
Following this all time highlight with an angry dunks compilation for dessert.

Why am I crying in the club right now
How does 2017 Russ season compare to 2025 Champions season for a Thunder fan?
You can’t just ask someone to pick a favorite among their children
for me, it’s 2017. I didn’t expect Russ to unleash a fury like this league has never seen before. The man was a demon unhinged from the deepest depths of hell. Every single game was entertaining, the dunks, the flashy assists, and pull and pop middy. It was some of the purest joy I’ve ever experienced as a sports fan. I will love and defend Westbrook until the day he retires. A true class act and a hero to oklahoma city at a very low peak when the spawn of satan decided to go to Golden State.
I love that call by the announcer so much
an all time call. Goosebumps every single time
Westbrook’s MVP season is so good from a storytelling perspective I can’t lie
Was lucky enough to be in attendance that day. Everyone in attendance was in awe of him and everyone stood and cheered when he broke the record.
Then that ending was just wild.
Iconic clip. Imo top 10
To me this is a Top 10 moment in the last 20 years
people who don’t think WB was good are just young stat watchers who simply weren’t there in the moment
Can we talk about his double jump that he does after hitting the three when he celebrates? That vertical is insane
It’s not even a dunk highlight but this video shows just how twitchy and explosive prime Russ was. Legit one of the most athletic players the league has ever seen
averaging a triple double was the bedrock for Westbrooks’ MVP case that year – but he really solidified the award during the last few weeks of the season, he was hitting fucking insane clutch shots all down the stretch of the regular season and willing this mediocre thunder team to victories.
Great call. Great shot. Great season for Russ
The announcer went nuts with the call and I remember 2017 Russ is unstoppable. Dude’s just unreal
I remember watching this game live, I still have chills……
Iconic call by the announcer
Begrudging respect at the time. Long term good for the nugs core and electric highlight/memory
I think this literally won him mvp. Could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Good ol Brian Davis, I miss him so much. I remember I quit my job to watch him get his mvp trophy from Oscar Robertson when they played the Clippers in the playoffs that year, lol. Fun times.
poetry
That was for Nip
Can’t believe it’s been 9 years already
Damn his stint on the lakers really ruined his aura. This guy was peak basketball for years and at that time you could have made the case hes a top 10 player in history
That’s going way too far. Russ was box office, but he was a highly flawed player, even OKC fans knew it
Easily deserved that MVP! This was one of the greatest seasons ever, or it least that’s how it felt at the time. The KD decision also factored into this season heavily.
If the Nuggets won this game they wouldn’t have been able to draft Donovan Mitchell.
I miss this season
Demon. That season was an insane watch. Im an euro and full watched about half of that seasons games, even some that started a 3, 3:30 am. Russell is a legend for that season alone
I watched so many games that season and watched this moment live. Russ is always going to be my favorite player. None of the negatives outweigh all of the positives. Shame he likely never gets a ring, but he’s a HOF talent. He was exactly what we needed in the aftermath of KD, he stepped up and kept us relevant when it would have been easier and better for him to go anywhere else. We owe him a lot. This triple double season is what got us PG & Melo and give us a shot at doing something. Then PG turned into the NBA MVP and Champion SGA.
Russ built this city.
No one will make me hate you, Russ
Absolutely hated Westbrook for years. This will the cherry on top
Until last year. Now im a Westbrook fan for life
They can never make me hate you Brodie.
Blessed to have watched this live, still get chills every time I see it.
