A lot of them! The Nuggets that year scored 150+ three times, and gave up 150+ 6 times lol(two of which were 160+!). One of those games the Suns gave us 107 in the first half, locked them down in the second half though, only giving up 66 lmao! Arguably the worst defensive team of all time, but they sure could score!

The pace of play for the Nuggets was insane at that time. An excellent offensive scoring team but a horrendous defensive team. Just look up some highlights for them. They legit did not play any defense.

Stats involving the 91 Nuggets basically shouldn’t count. They played in such an insane way you have to kinda throw it out as an outlier.

Despite the commitment to statistics people don’t seem to consider that maybe there is no “reason” and not all correlations are meaningful. Randomness means sometimes outliers exist purely from chance and this list top 6 list spans over 50 years of basketball. Why do we think this needs explanation?

I just think it’s bad reasoning and is pretty common when discussing sports.

A lot of statistical discussion about the NBA is of this form “every time X improbably situation occurs Y has happened” or “This player belongs in a list with these other players who have had this arbitrary specific stat line”.

People jump from observation to conclusion without asking if it the observation really matters or if it basically consistent with noise. Also criticism is part of conversation.
