This is a nonsense take and you know it. Their +/- is inflated by going nuclear and shooting 50% from deep in the first half as a team.
None of those players, even the 3 you’re referring to, were going to sustain 50% shooting in the 2nd half. It was incredibly predictable they would cool off. Shooting variance works both ways.
That isn’t what happened though. Coward had 11 points in the 4th. Taylor was subbed out with 6.5 minutes left after a turnover. Clayton Jr played the final 8 minutes in the 4th, and scored 8 4th quarter points.
Im not saying Memphis hasn’t or didn’t pull questionable tanking shit at some point. Both of the last 2 against Denver they’ve played extremely aggressively and gave me none of the Wizards/blatant tank vibes. Just not as fun of a story when the shots stop falling.

I think the Nuggets had that this year, but lots of injuries plus older teams have a harder time keeping the intensity and focus up throughout the season.
Yeah this was 100% supposed to be the Nuggets best regular season year in the Jokic era but injuries derailed it. Could definitely have seen them hitting 60 if they had good health luck this year
Felt like we had every player in our regular lineup be down with injuries at some point of the season. Shout out to Bruce brown, didn’t miss a single game.
The net rating of the team when healthy is squarely in 60+ win territory, so imo we would have gotten there.
Thunder always felt like they had this problem in the KD and Russ era despite always being a contender when healthy. Some teams just play to the level of the competition way more for some reason

This is the team absorbing the attitude of Jokic (mostly) and Murray if we’re being honest. As Jokic ages he is increasingly managing his effort in the regular season, largely on defense. He’s coming off two successive round 2 game 7 losses in which his team’s health has broken down and they’ve gassed out. I think he’s more conscious than ever about the sheer length and undertaking of a deep post season run, especially considering he’s coming up on his 8th straight postseason with only one of them being a single round.
It’s very different for a team like the Thunder or what I project the Spurs to be like over the next several years as they:
I say all that to say I’d be surprised if this iteration of the nuggets win 60+ games and I’d just about bet the house Jokic won’t win another MVP as there are younger and hungrier (also deserving) candidates who will win more games. They will continue to be a dangerous team in the playoffs I’d wager though.
