Tatum was always seen as the more NBA ready player on that draft, which made more sense for a playoff team than a guy with a higher ceiling who might take a few years to develop.

Romeo Langford was a throw in. The Spurs wanted the picks they acquired more than the players.
Ainge’s overall roster construction decision-making may have suffered from a small scoring guard addiction towards the end, but he was still nailing drafts for us in that time imo. Brown, Tatum, Pritchard are all still core pieces (two all-nba players, one of whom has made multiple first teams, and a 6MOY!). Rob and Grant Williams were important contributors for a time. Some other guys didn’t pan out but worked as trade chips. Tbh I think he probably gets too little credit for building a lot of the foundation because he also left a Kemba-sized mess for Stevens, even though Stevens is of course awesome and his move to the front office has been proven 1000% the correct choice.
