One drawback of so many people in the fan community never dunking on someone or getting dunked on. You’re trying to play defense against a 6’9 man who runs faster than some NFL WRs. If you’re a hardnosed defender, someone is going to get you. If you’re an active defender, you might get caught up.

That was a great move and a real ‘ankle-breaker.’  But OP is right that so many that are called that are more likely offensive fouls.  Or like a few nights ago one defender stepped on another defender’s foot causing both of them to fall down in front of Donovan Mitchell, yet even national media like the ny times ran an article lauding Mitchell for his ankle-breaker move.

It very plainly is an offensive foul according to the rules. People always bring up some chicken wing bullshit like it’s gospel but no, you can’t shove the defender while dribbling the ball with your other hand. The fact that NBA refs are shitty about calling it does not make it legal.
