AD discusses finding out about the trade from Rich Paul: “man shut up, who they gonna trade me for, Luka? Then Nico called and said I told you I was gonna come get you. Then Joel Embiid called me”
Crazy work to check Shams’ page to confirm a trade after getting calls from your GM, your agent, the other team’s GM, and of course Joel Embiid.
This was during the production of his prank show so I could see how he was skeptical
Shams the real confirmer.
Joel EmbiidM
AD and Embiid are rehab bros.
Embiid called and was like what are they doing lmaoooo
Wish they were together on the Sixers. Things would be crazy with a AD- better DeMarcus Cousins front court.
Yeah they’d be chilling, hanging out getting Philly cheese steaks while the rest of the team is playing and shit
This discussion should have had AD in stead of Lowry. But Kyle also makes it funny.
Embiid has admitted never texted or called back his own teammates in 3 years but the guy will call AD about a trade. Pretty much says it all about this big immature goof ball that ruined our Franchise and you people think is some great player. Stats mean nothing
Nico Harrison ruined my life
Nico called him so excited, too lol this is how I know this isn’t some conspiracy like people want it to be. Dude just had oneitis for AD
Same and I’m not anything close to a Mavs fan.
Mavs fans are great, I feel really bad for y’all despite the fact that it’s been 20 years (!) and I’m still not over that Manu foul on Dirk.
Also ruined ADs
The entire fucking organization. No way just Nico called this 100%
Embiid and AD must genuinely have a lot of advice for each other lol
They do both have a lot of free time
That is diabolical.
“Make sure to lift with your back”
Nico was so proud to land his white whale and it cost him everything.
Can’t say he doesnt have a vision. Even if that vision is dumb. Shows you the dangers of being to narrowly focused on your beliefs. Standing on business is important. Its important to know when to be flexible as well.
Hindsight is 20⁄20 even when everyone else could see it in real time
If he had executed properly, it would still be the wrong decision but it may not have blown up in his face as hard i.e. getting Reeves and that extra pick.
He was just too pot committed to getting rid of Luka and didnt squeeze even the Lakers properly. Just really bad negotiating from a place of weakness.
If he gets Reeves even the Grimes trade makes more sense.
I dont agree with what he was going for but I understand how he got to that logic. But even under his own framework he didnt execute.
Also he had spent years building the entire roster to accentuate Luka’s strengths and cover up his weaknesses. AD’s fit in that roster was not anywhere near as good before getting into the gulf in value.
I dont completely agree here. The fit was fine. Thing is neither of us can explicitly prove right or wrong because Davis, Lively, Gafford and Irving all got hurt and they barely played together.
I do think trading Grimes as well was gunna be an issue because they probably are a ball handler short at that point.
I was gonna say the foresight here was also 20⁄20
SPOILERS FOR MOBY DICK A NOVEL FROM 1851:
It does not end well for Captain Ahab.
I love this reference. Passion can escalate to obsession if you let it.
He shot his shot. Turns out it was a boomerang
More like Nico was trying to get rid of a white whale
Lmfaooo why embiid in this
He’s the one pulling all the strings
He probably heard from his WME guys.
WME represents Luka and Embiid( in his case, everything not related to contracts)
Brotherman just looking out for his hospital room roommate.
Embiid defiantly wanted to Troll AD a little
He definitely troll called
Wow. He actually thought this was a good call. For this alone, Nico should never get a job again in the NBA
What are you going to do? Stab me?
Moments before getting stabbed.
AD living through a nightmare and here comes Nico talking about “YEA! I told you I was gonna come get you one day. I wanted you”
Do people still subscribe to the theory that Nico was following orders?
Nico was just a dumbass working under a gullible owner. That’s really it, it ain’t that deep lmao.
There are a sizeable amount of people in r/nba that think the owners don’t defer knowledge on roster constructions and overall running the team to their GM.
The owner is higher up than the GM, so the owner must know more than them. That’s how it works in every company. /s
I mean you got teams like the Kings where I absolutely believe Vivek thinks he knows better, ir Lacob even.
Both could be true: He was following orders but he was also the one who initiated the order. If he brought this up to any reasonable owner they would’ve declined IMMEDIATELY and probably woulda fired him on the spot.
Imagine you going into the Warrior’s owner and telling them “yo imma trade 2016 steph”
100% help get the lakers Luka to increase ratings and get the top pick from the league in exchange
The most surprising thing here is that Nico had already told AD he was trying to get him.
How did Embiid know the trade ? He isnt on Lakers and Mavs
The implication is he saw Shams tweet and immediately called AD.
Such a crazy trade Shams had to confirm his Twitter wasn’t hacked 😂
Troell F5s like the rest of us.
“Nico said ‘I want you’ ” lmao
Please stop posting Draymond content! He’s a moron and hasn’t said anything worth listening to since he started this God forsaken podcast
So bitter
Might be a Rockets fan.
The timeline of this and when the trade happened doesn’t even make sense lol.
Time zones are a thing.
What do you mean?
The trade happened at midnight ish, why is one of the first people hes telling his private chef? What chef is cooking at midnight
That’s 9pm in California
Time zones — how do they work?
He said he went to go upstairs to watch a movie and then it sounds like he started wandering the house when talking on the phone. This isn’t that complicated
Like other people said, timezones. But also it could’ve easily been something like meal prep as well
