Draymond Green calls out the Kings for “tanking” despite the Kings being 8-10 in their last 18 games and actively trying to win almost every game they’ve played this year
What part of the “actively trying to win” entails intentionally fouling a 90% free throw shooter up 1 with 3 minutes to go?
We took the lead with that move
The Kings were already winning when they fouled Seth.
Well he did miss a ft fwiw
And then made the next 3 fts
you literally did not why is this upvoted
Because people upvote drama, not accurate accounts of games.
The score is in the video, too. You don’t even need to click play to see the score. People just come in here and upvote shit lmao
It’s Draymond Derangement Syndrome low key, some people want him to be wrong (and I do get why people feel that way, but this time he’s obviously right).
People up vote contrarian shit talking
The average highly viewed podcaster or listened to radio show hosts aint really ever talking about s*** lol. Skip Bayless made a career out of saying stupid s*** disguised as insightful hot takes. He’s almost always WRONG about predictions and his opinions come out of left field making no sense
You’re as confused as me. You can literally see in the clip in this post that the Kings were ahead by 1 when this happened.
How would it even be mathematically possible lmao
No, you didn’t.
I’m convinced most people commenting didn’t watch the game.
Did you? Kings had the lead when they fouled Curry twice. He went 3⁄4 from the line, and Doug McDermott hit a 3 so the Kings still had the lead
The players are clearly still trying, but there’s no explanation for why Seth Curry was intentionally fouled that makes any sense
Just to be clear though, the 2nd foul wasn’t intentional. It was a standard foul on a rebound:
https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=653&GameID=0022501154&Season=2025-26&flag=1&title=Cardwell%20L.B.FOUL%20(P6.PN)%20(M.Ervin)
But yeah, the first one made no sense. You can barely even see it happen in the upper right corner of the screen in the clip they have for it on the NBA site:
https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=633&GameID=0022501154&Season=2025-26&flag=1&title=McDermott%20P.FOUL%20(P2.PN)%20(E.Lewis)
That’s just elite tanking. Intentionally throw someone to the ground on the rebound to give them free throws.
Whether it was intentional or not, you can’t argue the Kings made some questionable decisions down the stretch. The problem with teams actively tanking is now fans and players alike are going to question your intentions down the stretch in a close game.
Yeah, I mean that 2nd one could’ve just been a foul. It wasn’t obviously intentional, even if it’s definitely suspicious cause it was a stupid foul.
The first one made absolutely no sense though.
Trying to give benefit of the doubt, you can see GP2 getting up from the bench to sub in for Curry, so I guess they could argue they fouled Curry so that he would have to stay in the game and continue to be a liability on defense. But feels wild to essentially give up 1.8 points per possession to do that lol
That’s the best explanation I’ve heard cause at least there’s some reasoning there. But like you said, still seems like a wild decision.
The two sets of free throws shown were the result of:
Christie wanting to stop play so he could call his use-it-or-lose-it timeout before time dropped below 3 mins.
Cardwell fouling Seth during a live rebound, and the Warriors being in the bonus. McDermott, the same guy who gave the foul after being instructed, made a 3 the very next possession from a set play Christie drew up.
Have you ever seen a team give the other team FTs to use a timeout? And why would they foul the 90% shooter
Cardwell needed to be pulled out because of a fall on an earlier play. The free throws were irrelevant. The guy had just came back after missing major time.
Idk how you can say two FTs in a one point game are irrelevant
The game? I would guess half of them didn’t even watch the clip
In the draft? Because you lost the lead in the game.
Not only is this factually incorrect, as the Kings were up 1 when the first intentional foul occurred, but even if true it would be a completely results-oriented defense. Please explain the PROCESS behind how this strategy increased Sacramento’s chance to win if you are going to defend the most blatant in-game strategic tanking decision from a coach I’ve ever seen in professional sports.
The Kings are not at fault here, the NBA is. But you have to be able to admit that this was egregious, or at least that Draymond is justified in calling it out. Come on now.
You are still tied with Utah ;)
Doesn’t make sense, but if i make a sense out of it, prevent 3pt from steph
68% FT Shooter Draymond Green was right there tho.
We’re definitely tanking but are awful at it.
I don’t know what that foul was everyone was confused
Pacers went 9-9 during a stretch and Pacers fans were trying to use that as an argument that they weren’t blatantly tanking. They were, they just still happened to win some games for a time. It happens.
It’s crazy how some fans delude themselves into thinking that if their tanking team isn’t on a 28-game losing streak, then that somehow means their team is trying to win games and going about things ethically.
Pacers were fined for less obvious looking shit than this too
Pacers got to a point where it didn’t matter.
Since you don’t get the pick 5-9, once you are top 4 it’s all the same
Tanking. Fouled on purpose. Want to lose the game.
Pretty sure we took the lead after this, FWIW.
No, they didn’t. How does no one at least go check the clip? The Kings were already winning when they intentionally fouled.
lol the clip is right there too. People saying Steph wasn’t in and the kings weren’t up.
Common thing that happens on Reddit - don’t actually read/watch post and just repeat what other people said without fact checking
Being awful at being awful so you get the best chance to be not awful is very kings.
fuck draymond but can anyone explain why they are fouling here lol? 3 minutes left, 1 point game, seth is an excellent free throw shooter. i didn’t watch the game, maybe i’m missing some context.
They were making a comeback and the coach wanted to make sure they didnt win lol thats the only reason you intentionally foul a 80+% ft shooter. Like if it was just to stop the clock they intentionally foul dray who i believe was the worst ft shooter on the floor
Kings haven’t really pulled tanking shenanigans most of the season and have been winning games. Why would the randomly decide now to tank like this? Seems more likely they wanted to keep curry on the floor.
Honestly this is the best logic I have heard and it kind of makes sense. Kings went on a stretch during this part of the game where they were easily getting the shots they wanted on offense.
If there’s any team that would randomly decide to tank far too late for it to matter, it would be the Kings.
Spencer is also a worse free throw shooter than Seth Curry. I mean most players are because Seth Curry is an excellent free throw shooter who would never be intentionally fouled by a team trying to win.
You don’t have to start your question with “fuck draymond” it’s corny as hell
This is Reddit, always gotta make sure people know you don’t like unpopular people.
2k logic
A 2 is better than a 3
yea this is investigation worthy if there is no context
I watched the game. There was no context. It was as confusing as it looked in this clip. Kings had just gone up by 1 with 3.5 minutes left.
Here’s the clip they have for it on the NBA site:
And the play before it:
https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=631&GameID=0022501154&Season=2025-26&flag=1&title=Achiuwa%207%27%20Turnaround%20Hook%20Shot%20(13%20PTS)%20(McDermott%202%20AST)
SETHGATE 2026
Is it at all possible that the washed vet and G Leaguer out there simply misunderstood the assignment?
The Kings have dropped from the best draft position to the 5th spot in the last couple of months. All while the Pacers, Jazz, Nets, and Wizards have been shameless. Kings are almost .500 in their last 20 games. They aren’t the problem.
Absurd.
Christie was screaming at him to foul Seth.
Have you considered Christie is just stupid?
It is almost a certainty that
I haven’t watched a Kings game in a little bit cause I like my sanity, but someone on another thread said Christie was doing it to keep the Dubs from subbing out Curry and Spencer? Sounds like BS, might have been sarcastic but that’s all I got.
doing it to keep the Dubs from subbing out Curry and Spencer
Fouling Seth is what allowed the Warriors to sub out Spencer.
a foul would allow subs though lmfao
the guy getting fouled and shooting the free throws cant be subbed out though
so if the goal was to prevent spencer from being subbed out, why would you not foul spencer…
Do you not see him saying they also don’t want Seth Curry subbing out for Steph?
Steph was already on the floor.
And it looks like one King tried to foul Steph, but he’s beaten by other King fouling Seth first.
You can literally see Steph on the floor in the clip
Pretty sure you can sub after the second ft make though
It felt like a BS comment but I don’t know what else Christie could be thinking outside of trying to lose 😂
Point shaving…
Ahhh….a different perspective I hadn’t considered. #ChessNotCheckers
Christie overthinking it. It’s honestly silly but here’s the best I got:
They didn’t want Seth to come out of the game and another Warrior to come in for him. By fouling it means he can’t be subbed out. Maybe he thought he could attack Seth on offense and live with him shooting free throws?
It’s that or admitting that you’re so bad at defense you rather take your chances with a 90% free throw shooter rather than giving up a 3.
I watched the game. It was as confusing as it looks. Kings had just scored to go up by 1 with about 3.5 minutes left, then they did this (intentionally fouled Seth while he was walking up the floor).
The Kings also took a timeout after the intentional foul, but they didn’t make any subs. It was perplexing.
They were trying to not let Steph and other sub in. They wanted to keep Seth on the floor. And took the lead with that move
steph’s already in the game, he’s the one bringing the ball up the court
and the kings already had the lead before the foul
did you not watch the clip?
steph is literally on the court too lmao. just made up bullshit to defend bullshit
Like I’ve never seen the sub try to defend tanking blatantly like this before. It can’t be justified either their tanking or the coach needs a drug and iq test.
Steph was already in the game…
shameless lmao
what a shitty excuse the warriors were playing their b team the entire night, steph and melton could’ve came in for any 2 guys
There’s teams to call out about tanking but for as bad as the Kings are they ain’t it. What Utah and the Wizards have been doing is egregious compared to the kings
All three are so bad trying to rank them is a waste of time
Yeah what the Jazz was doing early in the year was disgusting literally would bench their good players in the 4th till the oponnent comesback
But the jazz were actually fined for it. So were the pacers. That’s what’s frustrating
watch out bro. that’s your future team….
If they haven’t let go of him at this point they’re never letting him go
After all the nonsense ive put up with over the past 20 years that would be the final straw for me. Guy is a insufferable jackass
Don’t put this evil on us !!!!
I’m so terrified this guy will soon be a media talking head and espn will force feed him to us
Draymond has more bbiq in his nutsack than the entire first take crew combined. You may not like him as a person but he’s up there with rondo and bron.
Ikr? I get hating Draymond but thinking he’s not intelligent at the game is absurd. He has one of the highest bbiq of all time.
I don’t like him. But whatever insight/analysis comes from Draymond will be a way better alternative to what some of the talking heads are parroting.
There’s no need to watch ESPN. I also don’t see any chance he’s interested in being part of the broadcast team, so you won’t have to hear him for games that are on ESPN if you don’t want to.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/UNonyewwGI
I mean, he’s right though. Why were they sending Seth Curry to the line with over 3 minutes left? There’s no logic to that strategy.
The defense would like to bring forward Evidence A: Doug Christie’s strategic decisions for the last year and a half
The Kings have dropped to the fifth spot in the draft because of their recent wins. They’re bad, but they aren’t actively tanking. They’ve won plenty of games they should’ve lost. Draymond is just a shit stirrer.
In Doug Christine’s defense he thought they were fouling Steph 😂
Kings are 8-10 most recently. Kings don’t know how to tank because we can’t do anything right, lol
The players aren’t tanking, the coaching staff definitely is with who they play and when
Same staff that played DeRozan 35 mins and almost the entire fourth quarter just a week ago to pull out a meaningless win against the Raptors. Also played Precious 38 mins while he had 28 points.
Also played the Nets less than two weeks ago (a huge tanking team) and played DeRozan 32 minutes, Monk 30 minutes (while having 32 points) and precious 28 minutes to pull out a meaningless win.
Played the Jazz 3 weeks ago and played Demar 38 minutes (41 points), Precious 33 minutes (20 points) to squeak out a meaningless win over the Jazz who are also tanking.
It may not seem like it if you don’t watch King’s games, but Doug Christie and his staff are absolutely trying to win every game.
Exactly. Taking out your best players in the fourth in a tight game is an instant red flag
Way too much credit to Christie. Clearly shows you ain’t watching our games (which, right call)
We gonna be doing this sht in a couple years too lol
My running theory and hope is that Golden State is a big enough market where a top 3 pick magically falls in our lap within a year or 2 after Steph lol
If that is the case, explain the Bulls
How is anyone supposed to know if the Kings are tanking or not? Their team isn’t very good even if they tried.
strange tactic, thought christie was playing mind games with seth
As a Kings fan, the whole reason we were 8-10 in our last 18 games is that we were literally not tanking. And even if we did, he’s just admitting that the Warriors barely squeaked out a win against a team actively trying to lose
Yea if we were tanking we would have shut down our vets ages ago like the jazz do every year and it’s Lauri once January hits.
This wouldn’t have to happen if the Warriors just blew out the Kings third stringers
This team seriously can’t win lol. Get roasted when they try to win games. Get roasted when they try to lose.
Per Rob Perez on Twitter:
As of the time of this posting, the tweet below has 1.4M views.
McDermott, the same guy who gave the foul after being instructed, made a 3 the very next possession from a set play Christie drew up.
does anybody really care what strategy the kings are employing in april
Draymond was asked whether he thinks the play-ins are still a good idea.
He said they’re not working. The point was to give the 11th-13th teams an incentive to keep trying later in the season. But that’s obviously not working because the Warriors could have lost their lost their last 15 games and would still be locked into the 10th seed.
He then said this an aside as an example of the teams below 10 no longer trying to win.
I think it worked the first few years. But when you have a great draft class on the horizon, tanking is going to take precedence over any 1st round playoff experience.
Yeah. And I fuckin hate it when it’s play Demar 35 minutes a game and slipping down the draft odds
I care when the pacers were fined months ago for tanking and didn’t pull obviously looking shit like this
The Kings are tanking long-term, making sure they’re never bad enough for a pick that will prevent future tanking
From someone in the media unrelated to the kings.
Edit: Cardwell had also taken a fall earlier and seems to have asked out. Christie had not made subs and no mandatory timeout was coming.
The warriors are 5 games below .500.
These bitches having a mid off.
Warriors been without two all nba players for months.
This is who the Kings are.
Not the same.
you dont know what mid means
We are so bad we climb up to mid. Our mid isn’t the same as warriors mid.
There’s like 28 nearly free wins available from teams actively trying to lose.
Dubs must live so well in your head after the past decade and change.
Not even rent free; subsidized housing.
Lmao warriors fan talking about subsidized housing
We tried to tank ethically, but you still down 104-101.
He also claimed the Hornets were “tanking in plain sight”
Can’t wait till we’re done with this convo. Just 3 more games. What an anomaly of a year for this smh
For what it’s worth he also said the hornets where tanking earlier in the season
Maybe enough mic time for dray
Kings have been ass for 2 decades with the exception of like 3 years and then when they decide to finally be a little extra ass for one year people get upset?
Clown gonna clown
lol truth only comes out from a player when their old af and ready to retire.
Draymond that may be your next team
Counterpoint: Killian Hayes is TERRIBLE at all things basketball.
Feels like this is being missed lol
I just want to point out the Pacers got immediately fined for something far less egregious “looking” than this.
I mean you don’t expect your team to tie or make a 3 for the possession. Wild. Lol
Draymond has paid over \(1m in fines during his career. “Why isn’t it the same?” Because it’s incredibly easy to give out a statutory \)4000 fine when you commit a technical foul. It’s not so easy to prove when a team is trying to lose a game.
This mofo
Someone get Dray a cross so he can hammer his own hands onto it.
Who gives a fuck what Draymond has to say
I mean…what do you want them to do? It’s not like they have a well built roster with which to really compete with. Even if they weren’t tanking they’d still be a bad team and losing fairly often. What’s Draymond’s excuse for the Warriors this season? Injuries to core players? Sounds like a fair reason to punt on the season to me.
I don’t really know why Draymond is acting like he’s above tanking either because the Warriors have literally tanked before lol back in 2019 when Steph got injured and shut him down. Draymond bullshitted for half the season then shut himself down with an “injury”.
Going on a win streak a couple games before the end of the season is not tanking.
He said the same thing about the Hornets because Lamelo was on the bench to start a game without knowing the context. Not really the first time he’s spread misinformation through ignorance. Pretty clear now that the Hornets were in fact not tanking.
Imagine Draymond being the next commissioner 🤦🏽♂️
Seems like a lot of nephews listen to every word this bozo says
Draymond is just pissed his team sucks and almost lost to a “tanking” team. You almost got beat by Dylan Cardwell Draymond, you gotta live with that.
More wins than the warriors in the last 18 games lmao
Take your meds tall Kanye
Teams that constantly tank on purpose are doin a disservice to their players. Players get paid off stats/production, messin with their future money. They are also not teaching their players how to win or be a winner, basically have the right mindset. Prime example would be the wizards. Pulling their young starters early, what does that teach them? Its no coincidence that players always perform better once they leave wash. I dont know what the answer is but this shit needs to stop
I’m sorry but the Kings intentionally fouled Seth Curry twice at the end of a close game to send him to the line. It’s the most brazen in-game tanking I’ve ever seen. You are trying to “well actually” Draymond but he is 100% right to call that out, it was shocking to see.
Lmao at “actively trying to win”
I mean he’s not wrong, the Kings just aren’t doing a good job of tanking recently
The heat don’t tank and everybody loves us on r/nba. Lately we’ve been getting a lot of love from lakers fans.
Being the teachers pet is never a good look. Lame behavior
I think Dray is mad teams don’t get fined as quickly as players (him especially) do.
And they don’t like the Kings.
Draymond been on a heater lately
And the NBA thinks adding 2 expansion teams is going to help
No they think making everyone have the same odds will help lol. I dont think they care if teams will stay bad forever with their proposed changes i think they just don’t want teams trying to lose anymore
The proposed changes will be catastrophic for bad teams
I rather have bad teams stay bad than having bad teams mess with the integrity of the league by doing things such as this clip. The current system rewards bad behavior
Draymond Green is the voice for ethical tanking.
Dude has made a living of dirty play and trying to get away with breaking the rules and he wants to throw stones
Just for that, Silver has taken Sacramento’s lottery ball out of rotation. Warriors get an extra one in the lottery machine
When the most annoying guy you know makes a good point
Dumb to make this point against the Kings who not only have been winning more of recently but also have avoided tanking as egregious as 5-8 other teams
I love dray for so many reasons, but pissing off all the little bitches in this sub is definitely high on the list
Draymond Green is a clown. I’m still annoyed anyone likes to talk to him.
Draymond had a good take on Giannis so he had to immediately follow that one up with a bad take to get him back to his usual average
Bad take?
Why would you intentionally foul one of the best FT shooters, up 1, 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter?
Sounds like they realized they were winning too much and resorted to more blatant tanking
He’s a complete idiot that is so in love with his own voice. Who listens to his bullshit?
sounds like he’s ready to be a top espn analyst
Draymond is a clown. Accused the hornets of taking because they managed Lamelo’s mins for injuries.
I forgot he did this 😭, he’s another one of these people who have no idea what tanking is
Take the mic from this clown man
I can’t wait until this clown stops playing. He’ll never shut up but at least then I can really start to ignore him.
I’ve got some bad news for you… there’s a pretty high chance he goes into NBA media.
You might wanna get ready to have to listen to him talk if you wanna watch nationally televised games in the foreseeable future.
What is with all the Kings fans in this thread talking about how “this was to prevent Steph from subbing in” or “this move gave us the lead”?
You can literally see in the clip that Steph is on the court bringing the ball up, and that the Kings are up by 1 when this happened.
Did a significant portion of the Kings fan base go blind having to watch this team all year or something? What am I missing?
Kangz are in perma tank mode
Doesn’t this guy have some vulnerable basketball player to go assault on the court?
“Vulnerable basketball player”
That’s what I said. drinks coffee out of a giant mug
Bros hold to relevance anymore is saying shit like this.
Still can’t believe this guy is going to be a hall of famer
Why wouldn’t he be?
His resume backs it up, he’s there for defense
Its funny when a tanking team accidentally wins a few games the fans switch to “we’re ethical tankers” or “we aren’t actually tanking!”
The Wizards fans did this after getting outtanked by the Pacers a couple games. As if they weren’t being utterly shameless in their tanking efforts too. Now the Wizards are dead last again giving up 82 points to Bam Adebayo and I don’t hear much about “ethical tanking” anymore from their fans.
The Kings just suck at tanking but yeah they are trying to lose. They wouldn’t have Domas get essentially a cosmetic surgery for the season if they were trying to win. They get players like Devin Carter and Precious Achiuwa randomly winning games for them but they don’t actually expect those guys to win.
Domas got surgery to fix his meniscus after trying to tough it out and play. How in the world is that a cosmetic surgery?
He decided to get surgery instead of toughing it out… because the Kings are tanking. Otherwise he could have waited until offseason as he was originally planning to do.
Til repairing a torn meniscus is a cosmetic surgery.
Only decided to get surgery when no trade partner was found for him by the deadline + the Kings were obviously tanking. Before that he had been playing through it.
It was something he could have saved for the offseason if it weren’t for the Kings tanking.
