Reporter asks JJ Redick pre-game if playing year round like Luka does is sustainable for players. Redick replies: “Luka’s got a certain pace to how he works out [laughs] that’s probably sustainable.”
Buy Fat Luka stocks now while they’re low
Never left my portfolio šššš
Iām kind of glad Luka wasnāt on the team when Kobe was around in his prime lolā¦
It would’ve 100% came to blows. Throw in coach JJ and that team would’ve been explosive on and off the courtĀ
On the flip, Luka has also reported to have issues with when his teammates get treated poorly/overly criticized. Absolute opposite of how Kobe liked to be.
Or, OR! Luka and Shaq convince Kobe to workout like them, and then he plays until he doesn’t
Our roster is beyond flawed lol. Playing Luka so much was the only way we could win. Funny quote tho.
Yea. You guys had to play him and reeves upper 30ās against teams like Indiana. Those are supposed to be load management games
[deleted]
Yes probably because he was agreeing lmao
Have you not watched the NBA since the finals started last year?
I’m pretty sure this is referring to the fact that he plays international basketball for Slovenia every summer, which I’m pretty sure is contributing to these injuries he’s getting.
Even more reason why as a Mavs fan Iām glad we shipped him off. Heās lazy, injury prone, and petulant. And itās only going to get worse. Conditioning doesnāt get easier as you age.
Mavs fan here. We do not claim this person.
dude, he isn’t lazy, just not as motivated as you expect him to be
Ok š
My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
That song is probably older than 99% of this subreddit.
Is it sustainable because this is the same hamstring that he’s hurt multiple times now
I feel like the problem is less playing year round and more that he’s playing year round on teams where he needs to carry. International Ball for Luka is completely different than Team USA or even the guys on France, Serbia, Spain etc.
Jj is tired boss
For years Iāve not known Luka personally and I can confidently tell you that his offseason work and the quality of that work is sustainable
Im simply confused? Are you saying he is lazy and thats why is sustainable or he actually does a good job and can keep it up?
JJās tongue is slipping after 2 bad losses wonder where it will be at in late April lmao
If you guys don’t like that you have jj remember, at least is not steve kerr
Lmao these players are so soft
Luka has done more in Basketball than swell head JJ could of ever doneā¦šš¤¦š¼āāļø
lol so there are only like 20 guys alive on the planet who are qualified to coach Luka because everyone else is a less accomplished player than him?
dumb take
LOL what is this response
“a certain pace that’s probably sustainable” sounds too much like you are saying he’s taking things easy bro JJ, even if you didn’t mean it like that, come on, just say he works hard or some shit and move on
I swear, it must be way harder not to get caught offguard with a stupid quote that comes across as throwing a player under the media bus than it looks because it just happens too often in the NBA
I prefer this answer over the generic PR response to everything.
Agreed. It’s pretty clear Luka needs a push to keep himself in good shape.Ā
That is what heās saying but itās really not that big of a deal.
That is exactly what JJ is saying. JJ busted his ass for 15 years to make NBA rosters and get playing time with a fraction of the natural talent that Luka has.
JJ, and I think every basketball fan for that matter, wants to see what Luka can be if he pushed himself as hard as JJ or Steph or LeBron.
I mean, then that’s worst and all he’s doing is getting baited
Even if he does have an opinion on Luka’s effort in training, there’s no upside to giving fuel to the usual lazy luka narrative especially at a time the guy has just gotten injured after a stretch of playing great. Unless he thinks the media fallout to the idea that Luka doesn’t give enough effort in practice would somehow motivate him to work harder on and after his injury or something, but that comes across as really dumb imo.
I disagree a bit. They are talking about how overworking a player can case injuries. JJ is saying that Lukaās injury was not due to overwork.
Heās protecting his training staff and in a way, Luka
I mean, he could be trying to, I was replying to someone saying he was just giving an actual opinion on how Luka trains so I was talking in that case.
If what he was doing was trying to give an answer that protected both Luka and his team, I just think like my initial comment, there’s just so many better ways to do that
“Luka trains proper, the injury is just that, really unlucky”, which I’d guess was the main thing he did say in the full to the press but still quotes like this just look kinda bad, which is why it even gets posted like this anyway
Thatās fair. I heard Cowherd, or someone similar, blaming Redick for overworking the core guys. Pointing to the playoff series last year where he didnāt sub a whole half, talking about how he doesnāt follow advanced biometric stuff etc. so Iām basing it off of him hearing that narrative.
Yeah honestly, looking at stuff like this, I sometimes think Mazzula goes overboard on how crazy he acts towards the media on these things but maybe just staring intently with crazy eyes at them whenever they make a question that could touch a more spicy spot might just be the right move lol
Even when it goes viral the focus is on him anyway
damn fat luka stocks really on the come up again, hasn’t been a week since the guy got hurt
Post Miami Bron openly talked about āpacing himselfā so he can be ready for the playoffs. Still amazing in the regular season but def not going balls to the wall
I mean for someone that plays basketball year round, he somehow got fat for a few years before working on his diet.
“You can’t out work a bad diet”, as they say. No matter how often you work out, if you eat too many calories, you’re going to look squishy. It just so happens in Luka’s case, that calories volume is really high.
Wow nothing gets past you. Amazing
82 games means 82 pressers, hundreds of questions and JJ was a millenial podcaster with powerful friends first. This isn’t some military man during the Cold War like Popovich or a puppet master like Phil.
Man jj rubs me the wrong way a lot. He says almost all the wrong things all the time and does bad coaching stuff regularly. However Reddit seems to love him and he canāt do no wrong, confused why that is so.
It’s a genuine question but JJ did to rub you the wrong way ?
Maybe you think he is always saying the wrong things all time is pretty much because you remember the bad things more than the right things ?
And JJ did some wrongs things like playing too much minutes versus Minny last years, but you can’t deny that he did an excellent work with a flawed roster in B2B season.
āBad coaching stuffāš¤£
You failed to make your case. -1
Itās the record he has as a starting head coach. Many seem to forget that heās buoyed by old man Lebron, MVP-level Luka, and Austin Reaves. Iād like to see his record without them.
The best measure of a coach imo is how well they utilize their end of bench players. So guys like Spo, Mazulla, and Kerr are some prime examples of coaches who can eke out the best from their end of bench.
Nah Kerrās a basketball terrorist who ruined Kumingaās All Star potential /s
He’s a hot little slut tho
I mean, Kerr doesnāt have some great track record with his younger players recently. Legendary coach but heās not perfect.
Sarcasm? Cause how has Kuminga looked in Atlanta š
holy fuck. I have forever hated the proliferation of ‘/s’ because i think it ruins jokes, but here you are not understanding sarcasm even when it is actually directly stated
