SGA has a pretty good whistle and their defenders are allowed to be pretty grabby, but neither of those things are unique or particularly egregious (perhaps the combination of the two is a bit annoying sometimes but that’s really it). You look at the recent Laker’s games and tell me with a straight face that OKC gets a favorable whistle or SGA gets soft calls. He had maybe one, wanna bet the Lakers had more?
And it isn’t just a Lakers thing either, if it were true that OKC never got the whistle on defense, then they’d have a consistent foul differential yah? They don’t. SGA would lead the league in attempts yeah? Nope, he does lead the league in makes.
My point? People don’t care that he gets fouled, they only care because he’s good at making them. Which is literally a skill, ask the Lakers how easy it is to make free throws, or whether or not it’s a skill that they wish they were better at.
He’s skilled in nearly every aspect of Basketball, and on top of that, he’s a kind and generous individual who loves just being himself and shares any accolades he gets as a team & city accomplishment.
He’s honestly the best ambassador the NBA could ever hope to have, but the narrative against him is preventing so many people from seeing it. I find that really sad.
