I remember someone telling me how Jokic is the worst starting center in the league defensively. He’s slow, but his ability to read actions and positioning usually lets him anticipate cuts and get good contests. Also secures a ton of rebounds, which is completely overlooked as being critical to defense.
Not a great defender, but at worst he’s just average.
There’s a lot of people here who either haven’t played sports or were terrible at them and don’t have the spatial sense to understand any kind of positioning stuff that doesn’t consist of sharp athletic movements.
It’s just not always necessary and sometimes it’s better because it’s less assuming.
People will always find a reason to hate.
At worst he doesn’t try and then he’s as bad as everyone says he is. At his best he’s Marc Gasol but in an era with more space and pace so less effective

Except he is a bad consistent defender. If you just look at box scores and team stats like DBPM then he has a case. But if you watch games, there are soooo many times where he just doesn’t put any effort into his defensive sets. And that’s okay. When the game is on the line him and Luka will work harder on defense. But they save their tank for offense.
But like, yeah, consistently being a good defender is not a strong suit for offensively-dominant players like Jokic and Luka.
He is a very pragmatic defender, and will absolutely yield position if it seems to make more sense to prepare for the inbound pass to the player leaking out on the break. It happens all the time with him. His offensive responsibility puts that exact decision in his lap a dozen times a game. I’d bet in net value he’s on the right end of the decision not to sell out to contest every drive, but it’s hard to say.

You did have your forwards (Harkless, Hood) and Seth Curry go off vs Nuggets in that one series you miraculously won in the playoffs. On the other hand non-Jokic Nuggets were 0 for 20 for three in that Game 7, so not much to complain about regarding shooters on the team.

Not only did they set a franchise record for made 3s in a game, but the Nuggets were absolutely ice cold from 3 for basically the whole first half.
They stayed calm and just tried to stay in striking range if the Trailblazers ever cooled off or if the Nuggets hit a hot streak. They just needed to be close enough to claw back if they both regressed to the mean in the 4th, and that’s basically what happened.

It was funny listening to Bill Simmons talk about the historical significance of Jokic finishing 1st in assists and rebounds, and then proceeding to say he’s not the MVP. I don’t have a stake, I think all three guys are deserving, but it’s wild how nonchalant voters are about Jokic’s numbers when he’s not nearing 20/20/20

What makes the Nuggets dangerous is that Jokic can take a lot of shots and they can still win. That wasn’t the case before. With a full lineup I don’t see any team beating Denver out west. Shame that OKC gets to avoid them and Denver will probably be gassed if they make it to the WCF.
Weird game from my fat GOAT. He was awesome in the first quarter, then clearly got frustrated with the refs and Portland somehow turning into the 2016 Warriors, so started throwing dumbass passes in the 2nd and 3rd quarters… went down by as much as 18… down 14 start of the 4th and i think down around 10 by the time he came back in, and then Q4 and OT he was insane. Nothing Portland could do with him and Jamal in OT.
