The Spurs have hit 60 wins for the first time since 2017
8th time in franchise history. For a team that was expected to win around 40 games and be in the playin hitting 60 wins before 20 losses is crazy
The Spurs were 32-16 on February 1st, and 40 before 20 was probable but didn’t feel guaranteed.
They’re now 60-19. Fucking insane run by this team, one of the most fun seasons I’ve had the privilege of watching and can’t wait to see where it goes from here, regardless of what happens.
28-3 over two months… +13.7 margin of victory
28-3 you say…..
Oh no.
Nonononononono
ARE YOU FEELING IT MR KRABS???
Ravioli ravioli, give me the Larry O’Brienoli
Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes
Celtics/Pelicans fans, get in here!
Honestly it’s probably mostly lost on Boston fans. It was 1⁄6
I always see way more New Orleans fans bring it up
A true Saints christmas - biggest rival gets the biggest choke job on the biggest stage, and the poor bastards STILL don’t have a superbowl.
And it’s still funny
We love our 28-3 jokes
There is no escape
At least they arent Atlanta. I hope.
Unintentional stray.
add 2 more with DAL & POR, and a 50⁄50 with DEN
I would not be surprised if you’re resting guys against us. By then very real chance the 1 seed is out of reach.
Depends.. I still think, if health permits, Wemby will want to get his lick back at home
Honestly, that was most of why I said not surprised instead of expected lol.
FTF
I’m legit a Spurs and Falcons fan and I can’t escape this
They’re legit the scariest team heading into the playoffs. That OKC series will feed generations
Also two of those are to Denver by a total of 7 points, one without Wemby, and one in OT by 2 points.
Only the loss to the Knicks was a game that could not have easily gone the other way.
Considering they only had 34 wins last year and were 21-25 even with Wemby, before his injury, this has been an absolutely historic turnaround this season for the franchise.
They were expected to win 45-ish games and be a play in team this season.
Mitch Johnson has to be Coach of the Year. I don’t see how anyone else can be in the conversation.
They’ve gone from being an under 40-win team even with a healthy Wemby to being a team that is playing at a 70+ win level the last 30+ games.
The Thunder and Spurs right now are reminiscent of the old Lakers/Spurs teams from 1998-2010. Except both look like they’re even more dominant compared to the other 28 teams.
If the Thunder and Spurs combined to win 9 out of the next ten NBA titles, or even 10 out of 10, I don’t think anyone would be that surprised.
They’re so far above the rest of the league rn. I think the gap between them and Denver and the Lakers and the Pistons only widens next season and the Spurs with Harper in his second season, Steph in his 3rd, Wemby in his 4th are going to be absolutely terrifying to the rest of the NBA.
There is being a homer and then there is this.
I would be surprised if the Thunder and Spurs combined for 90% of the next 10 titles considering we haven’t had a repeat in the last 7 or 8 years. I mean Wemby went down tonight in a fairly unserious collision.
I wouldn’t be surprised in Cleveland, Detroit, Boston make another leap. Houston with a real point guard and an Adams replacement could be tough out next year.
There are several other coaches in the conversation that don’t have an alien.
Let’s see if the spurs can get out of the second round this year and then we can talk.
cough which team did you say beat them easily cough
Playoffs gonna be nasty
Hawks fans look away
Definitely didn’t expect Wemby’s team to be so good so fast
I thought mid-40s wins to be the median outcome, with low-50s and a top-6 seed to be the high end of realistic (and I think even Wemby said that was the team’s basic goal this season). Nobody, even the team, expected this in October. Probably will end up being the most fun run I’ve ever watched from a team that I like
Yep I think everyone thought the West had a couple more years before that. Unrelated but move the Wolves to the East
This is the same roster where people look at and say Spurs are gonna be play-ins at best at start of the season and Wemby carries them to Top 2, 60 dubs and going toe to toe with the reigning champs OKC.
Absolutely insane impact from their star.
Yeah, I remember thinking they wouldn’t get to 40 wins before 20 losses. Especially since they were playing .500 ball for a month.
Congratulations. I don’t care for this.
I hope you enjoy it.
I will not.
Good day.
So they went 28-3. The Numbers Mason….
Insane
Insane that they took only 8 years off to get right back to the top. Impressive tank/rebuilding by the spurs
We didn’t really embraced tanking until we traded DJM. We let Pop try to compete a little bit longer after we traded Kawhi.
All the pieces fell together
Especially the really long piece.
It’s the only way to score a full Tetris.
Lol i just watched appletv’s tetris a few hours ago. Wemby as the long piece is too funny
It’s the final countdown…
Illusions Micheal.
And we all know teams that score a full Tetris have a high likelihood of making the finals
It’s just classic Tetris strategy. Maybe other teams should try it.
[They] know the pieces fit.
The Wire
That and being a 60 win team/legit contender in only Wemby’s 3rd season
I mean, it definitely took some luck. I imagine any team that got Wemby was going to be really good eventually.
There is probably a decent chance that the Kings would have screwed it up.
I was born in 1996, besides my first year of infancy the Spurs didn’t have a single losing season in my entire lifetime until I was 23 years old. Never had less than 50 wins (or equivalent) until I was old enough to drink. Those have been a very long 8 years.
Oh my, eight whole years of suffering, and you still got 5 championships out of it
From a Kings fan: fuck off.
I was born in 1988 and I can say the same.
Yeah man they just do things the right way over there, so savvy and smart
So smart and savvy of them to let Wemby Castle and Harper fall into their lap
It helps to be extremely lucky lol
Only took three straight lottery picks hitting in a row (one of them being Wemby) to do so. Why can’t other nba teams learn from this, are they stupid?
Yeah, crazy what getting a once in a century talent can get you 💀
Luka fell into your lap.
And it only took another all time player
The most important thing about tanking and rebuilding is the spurs saw they were a middling team that wouldnt have gone anywhere and they pivoted to tanking as soon as possible. You have teams like Chicago that just are content to be 500. Spurs acted as soon as they knew.
Look up how long Derozan and Dejounte stayed with the Spurs
I was there tonight. I am surprised they won after Wemby went out. Team is a solid 5 or 6 seed without Wemby. No one tanks as well as the Spurs.
Spurs and Thunder at the top of the West? How timeless
Thunder timeless
Thunder
timeless
wellllllll
Last time we met the Spurs had 67 wins, and the thunder came out of that series. It’s like these dudes think the regular season matters
These guys are at least one full season ahead of schedule too, which is scary to think about.
It’s pretty crazy when you look at the rest of the good teams in the league.
Thunder are young but led by Shai who is about to be 28.
Nuggets have elite players in Jokic and Murray who are 31 and 29 respectively.
Celtics are led by Tatum and Brown who are 28 and 29 respectively.
Ant is pretty young at 25 but Gobert and Randle are getting up there.
Jalen Brunson and KAT are 29 and 30.
Pistons are also pretty young with Cade and Duren at 24 and 22.
But then you have this 60 win Spurs team with a 22 year old Wemby and 21 year old Castle, with a 20 year old Dylan Harper on the rise… You could say these guys are like 5-7 years ahead of schedule.
they just need to stay healthy
If they do poorly for a year due to an injury they’ll end up w a lotto pick (I believe that’s the tale of Timmer / the admiral)
No disrespect to the spurs, who are a class org. Just burning jealousy from a Sixers fan used to a dumpster fire team.
We NEED to hold onto them when their rookie contracts are out.
Man, the utter disrespect to the Pacers not even being mentioned after taking OKC to game 7. You all will see.
Pacers roster has turned a bit though? Who’s the young core
Nah you’re right I pretty much just looked at the top seeds right now to keep my comment shorter lol
You guys just dumped your #6 pick, still on a rookie contract. You guys are neither young or old overall.
People say this, but we were already on pace to be an over .500 team before wemby got his blood clots and even before we got fox. This is probably a bit better than people would’ve expected had last season gone better
Eh, we were 21-25 with Wemby last year and 23-29 when he was declared out for the season. It’s possible we pull it out to +.500 with Fox added, but his finger was fucked up and would’ve needed corrective surgery at some point regardless; not sure how invested we were in being a true play-in team last year anyway
me when I lie
Castle is ahead of schedule and the pieces fit really well together.
I’d wager to say more than one even tbh.
60 games won before 20 games lost.
Also screw you Podcast P.
Ooh what did his dumbass say? He’s always saying the most stupid takes
edit- oh okay, yeah fuck Podcast P
Collided with Wemby and caused a bruised rib
I think this is about the collision with Wemby.
Injured Wemby and then didn’t do shit
He took out Wemby like a mafia hit man
https://youtube.com/shorts/nhNPj9p3dfM?is=BeOZnEIMxJCANVe6
Clearly an incidental basketball play that happens by accident, what are you on about?
Wasn’t on purpose tho
Druggie P
PED P
Nah
They were 32-16 after 48 games. At that point, you’re wondering “will they win 40 before 20 and be a contender according to Phil Jackson ?”.
How they played since february is diabolical.
It’s Harper. Harper and Castle flat out couldn’t play with each other until Feb, when suddenly they both decided they could shoot. Castle has been good enough but Harper is over 50% from three in the last month or so. He was already an elite drive and finish guy, so when he develops some connective tissue between these phases of his game (plus his passing ability) he’s going to be an absolute monster.
They’re also now one of the best defensive duos in the league and feature in most of the Spurs best lineups. Harper’s defense is staggering considering how young he is.
Kon and Coop both rightfully deserve ROTY this year but Harper is a bad stretch in winter from being right they’re with them. He’s a demon. And my dumb ass wanted Ace Bailey.
Harper and Castle flat out couldn’t play with each other until Feb
That’s just flat out wrong. Even when they were both struggling to shoot, lineups with Castle and Harper were consistently massive positive NETrtg (like around +20)
He was the right pick and he may be the best player from that draft when all is said and done. And that’s saying something
#DEATH, TAXES, AND SPURS WINNING 60 GAMES
Still remember the Kawhi/LMA Spurs.. if Zaza doesnt kill Kawhi SPURS probably beat them, GSW had no answer for Lamarcus
Yup. Spurs were up as much as 25 pts until he got Zaza’d in that game
Spurs have been the most fortunate franchise in the nba
Got the #1 pick 3 times and each time there was a no doubt generational prospect to take at 1
if Fultz went to Spurs he’s a 14-year starter
If Ben Simmons went to Spurs, he is an All-NBA for 6 years straight right now
It’s actually kinda crazy to think, how Duncan could be different with another franchise, Robinson, even Kawhi, etc
No, its definitely the Cavs. Lebron + 3 #1s in 4 years.
I will admit the Spurs are definitely very lucky, but there’s a reason why the franchise does so well outside of just lottery luck.
19 years of Tim Duncan vs 11 years of LeBron.13 years of the admiral vs 6 years of Kyrie. Wemby vs…… bennet?
I’m pretty sure it’s the Spurs. Sure everything else was skill but winning the lottery when everyone knew who was going first in the draft is luck.
It’s good to be back!
[removed]
Lakers and spurs good again? NBA is healing
Well, one of those is good. The other is gonna be scrambling to figure out what to do to not get swept in the first round
Well yeah, if the Spurs lost Wemby and Castle they would be a first round sweep too
Understandable, the Suns is no joke but I do think you guys will be able to force a game 5
Lakers are good?
3rd seed is pretty good, I’d say
But without Luka and reaves, nah
3rd seed in the West is bad? Dammit yall got me defending the Lakers
You’re a hornets fan dawg don’t talk about the quality of other franchises
I respect it. The rivalry is back baby!
We’re not even close to what we were in the glory days
But Wemby and Luka might bring it back
Hopefully we get some pieces around Luka tho. If we don’t do anything this offseason (or more importantly the one after that), we’re cooked
Small markets feasting in the West!
And the best part is this team is so damn fun to watch. Great group that seems to enjoy playing together and obviously Wemby is Wemby.
Sucks that we’re in a conference where we might have to get through OKC and Denver to make the finals though.
Spurs have a great organization but when they hit the lottery they really hit the lottery.
It really hurts that out of the texas triangle, it’s really only us that never hit the jackpot in recent history. We’re always drafting 1 spot too low.
Until this last draft, Mavericks had never once moved up in the lottery and only held the #1 pick once for Mark Aguirre (after tying for worst record in their first season). Whereas you guys have had 4 #1 picks, 3 of whom are hall of famers (granted Sampson is moreso for college); 5 picks with 4 HoFers if you add in Hayes from the San Diego days.
Recent history or not, we were way more due for a lucky bounce.
Olujawon? You guys purposely tanked that year way before it got en vogue
And got Ralph Sampson at 1 the year before.
And had 4 consecutive top 4 picks right now.
Nodding. I mean, the mavs and spurs completely lucked into the 1 and 2 picks last year. SMH
“nodding”?
you mean like literally hitting the lottery by getting the 1st overall in generational drafts?
you get it
people will chock that shit up to being wElL rUn but it doesn’t change the fact they were a top seed that lost one season to injury and got gifted Tim Duncan, then 25 years later were top 4 in the draft 3 years in a row and got gifted Wemby. even the Wizards would’ve had some monster years with those guys.
60 wins while going 28-3 over the past two months is diabolical
And you guys are one of those 3 loses lol
Glad that this long suffering franchise could finally break through
Truly a historically unsuccessful franchise finally having their moment
Such a drought, thankfully the starved women of San Antonio get to eat again.
How many other teams have had a 60+ win season since 2017? Most franchises haven’t won 60 in decades or let alone ever, and here the spurs are back winning 60 games it’s insane
We haven’t had a 50 win season since the 70s…
Jesus. I always cite the Wizards as the cellar team of the NBA, but that just makes me feel bad
You almost had one if LeBron didn’t hit the craziest fadeaway 3pt bank shot that one time
Lol I looked it up just 5 mins ago!
8 teams since 2017
I bet there’s a decent amount of teams that never hit 60 wins. Especially the newer ones. I know the raptors never did
That’s the point. Raptors never picked in the top 3 and the spurs did 3 times in 4 years recently
Andrea Bargnani? Over LMA I might add.
Denver still hasn’t had a 60 win season.
I used to pray for times like this
Used to? Must have been tough for those 8 years of wilderness.
Yes it was.
Rolls eyes
Roll these balls in your throat
Touché
this came out of nowhere. I’m dying lol
Rough stretch for those fans
If the grizzlies won 60 games it would be one of the biggest moments of my life
THANK YOU, SPURS
But our pick T_T
Would probably be better to donate that to charity for some good karma atp.
expected by who
ball unknowers thats who
I’ll be honest I thought we’d be a 5th seed maybe 3rd. So I’ve been thrilled
Spurs not in the lottery one way or another for the first time in forever
Meanwhile, the Wizards havent won 50 or more since 1979.
Wemby + Sweeney = $$$
Spurs are winning the chip this season.
Book it.
60 wins is crazy
Getting Wemby then Castle and then Harper (and Bryant).. I started watching the Spurs in 2019-2020 and I feel so blessed.
The playoffs are gonna be awesome either way, win or lose.
I really hope Wemby can follow in Duncan’s footsteps and build a brand new dynasty.
There was a clip a couple weeks back (maybe months) where Wemby said he really wanted 60 since that’s how many they lost his rookie season. Congrats to this squad. Hungry Vic with a hell of a squad around him is a sight to see. He and Castle will be fun to watch for the next few years.
3 top-4 picks in a row including generational Wemby will do that yeah.
This my 2nd favorite team. I hope they kick ass since my Lakers are having hard times now.😭😭😭
Get on they ass Wemby.😭😂
wow that’s such a long time ago
First time since 2017… that doesn’t seem bad at all!
Sigh
I’m so proud of ma bois 🥹
must be nice to luck into the 1st overall pick in the tim duncan draft then after he retires luck into the 1st overall pick in the wemby draft. meanwhile the knicks were fucking trash for most of 20 years and then managed to put every single thing they have into winning what’ll probably be another barely-50 win season into a hArD fOuGhT playoff loss.
WembVP. DPOY.
The fact that this is just the beginning of their run jfc lol.
I’m Wemby’s biggest hater.
I’d rather root for the Spurs than the Thunder, so keep it going.
Usually you have some sort strangle hold dominance to win 60 games. They’ve blown way too many leads this year for a 60 win team in my opinion.
Very impressive. I didn’t expect it to happen this fast. Wemby has obviously been great. But they also have some other excellent pieces (Fox, Castle, etc.)
I had them taking a step like Houston did last year. Didn’t expect them to be this good though.
Congrats. Happy for you.
Pretty sure Nuggets highest wins season was 58 lol. If we don’t break 60 in the next year or two (I think we would have this year without the crazy injury issues) I dunno that we do anytime soon.
Eight years between 60-win teams is basically a recession in Spurs years.
nba really hooked them up with wemby.
Almighty Wemby.
Between spurs, Celtics, OKC and nuggets this is going to be a pretty crazy finals, any other years and these teams would each have been a lock
He commeth
We witness
Can’t wait for play offs
Pop tanked for a decade 🫠
Preseason I “ambitiously” had them as a 4 seed in my predictions. Thought they could maybe hit exactly 50 wins if everything went right.
They have been incredible all year long and it’s terrifying.
It’s been a long time
Genuinely such a feat. And honestly, after years of watching the game, Wemby is gonna do some crazy shit. These young guys are bringing the energy like they used to.
Second seed, oof!
while a lot of franchises have never hit 60 wins in their history. hell, our record is 58 and these fuckers have hit 60 routinely.
Wemby and Castle are the real deal. Going from lottery to 60 wins in two years is insane. This team is going to be a problem in the playoffs for a long time.
Our long national nightmare is over!
Wemby MVP
