[Highlight] Joel Embiid sinks the stepback 3-pointer for the 76ers. He has a game-high 20 points. San Antonio leads 62-55 at halftime.
Embiid looks like his knee is about to fall off and still drops 20 in a half lol
Injuries genuinely robbed us of seeing an alltime great career unfold
Tbf that was always the major concern with him.
Guys his frame are just cursed. Human knees just weren’t meant to hold up that much mass and move with as much agility as he can
his body is just extremelt brittle altogether tbh man has broke his face 3 times
I’m not a huge Embiid fan but it’s fucking insane that he didn’t pick up basketball until he was 15, and then was recruited to a school in the US literally 1 year later. It doesn’t even seen like his work ethic is otherworldly (famously), genuinely one of the most gifted athletes of all time.
3rd greatest scorer ever
When healthy (like peak performance) it’s between him and Wilt. Prime Embiid was a monster.
Kd def in convo
Kd gives you more consistency but Embiid has higher scoring highs. Except for the playoffs…
Im still giving it to embiid, dudes my goat
IDK about all that but yeah I love him too
My favorite player of all time. I do not think he’s the goat
Are you guys insane? Lmfao
6th highest points per minute season. Points per possessions leader. I don’t agree. I think they’re wrong, but no one’s insane here.
Is there an era-adjusted stat for this because only 5 of the top 25 points per minute seasons are before 2015-16, and most of the top 25 are from the last 5 years. Embiid has a big lead in points per possessions though.
Are you? Joel’s scoring numbers are obscene. Don’t let your hate get in the way of acknowledging an all time great offensive talent
I think people have a hard time recognizing “peak” in Embiid discussions. Every player has a peak season, but if you look at most amazing players, their peak is not an outlier on their career. Kobe’s best season is not that far from his second best, and the same is true for MJ, LeBron (if you can even pick one), Larry Bird, etc.
Embiid is an exception to that, and that makes people mentally misjudge a bit, imo.
Embiid has consistently been one of the best scorers in NBA history whenever he is healthy. I don’t really agree that it was only one good season
I would absolutely say he had multiple great seasons but only one that is GOAT-tier great.
And what makes the discourse more difficult is that you know injuries are the reason why but you can’t know the extent that they factor in. Maybe he could have stayed close to his peak and maybe he couldn’t, either way injuries robbed him and us of a truly extraordinary career. Not to take away from what he did and is doing, because he’s a MVP talent, but he could have been an all timer
Not many players have averaged more points than minutes..
Yup just Wilt and (almost) Harden. Both of them due to insane point averages rather than limited minutes.
I can’t tell if they are joking or not
Healthy Embiid might have a case for best scorer of all time. Of course healthy Embiid is borderline a mythological creature.
I feel like ability to score in big moments is a big part of being one of the greatest scorers. We’ve literally never seen that from him
He’s not even top 3 76ers scorers
Offense he looks fine but kornet got 2 straight lobs cus of how little he’s moving on defense
7ft, Unlimited bag, glass knees
At 7ft 280-300 lbs. the high intensity movement compounded on those joints… glass or not, he’s just not meant to have a long career in the NBA..when he is healthy and available, its a beautiful thing to watch
I wouldn’t say glass knees. I would say normal knees with the body of a Greek god.
The Harden double step back haha
His last dribble was inside the free throw line… lol
Harden-esque
He really is just a 7 foot Harden, in a very good way
I’m sure we’ll never see an archetype like him again. There’s been MJ types, there’s been Bron types, but Embiid is a literal once in a lifetime phenomenon.
Game is better when he’s healthy and balling.
How many steps they gonna let him go back?
Like it or not the Harden step back is 100% legal in the NBA rules if executed correctly and I think Embiid executed it properly here
The biggest thing is doing a pound dribble while moving backwards, so that the ball is still rising into your hand while you step back
While it’s doing that, you could technically take a million steps, and this is why stutter steps are also allowed
It’s not gathered until a hand goes fully under the ball or 2 hands grab the ball, after which you then ALSO have the zero step, 1, 2
Yeah anyway travel check up
out here writing dissertations on how 4 steps is actually legal 😂
But it’s not clear in the video that he hasn’t gathered the ball yet when he’s stepping back. Harden’s signature move looks like the ball is still midway while he’s doing it
it is clear. he takes his two steps after putting both hands on the ball
3 steps after the gather with the 4th being his non-pivot foot landing so technically legal. Stupid? yes. But legal.
You’re 100% right and I can’t believe you’re getting so much flak.
For everyone that disagrees, please answer this:
On a fast break, is it legal to dribble the ball really far in front of you and run to it?
Hint: Yes, it is.
The same exact rule applies going backwards too. Steps in between LIVE DRIBBLES are entirely irrelevant and do not matter for traveling in any way.
The traveling rules only start to apply once the ball is officially picked up and can no longer be legally dribbled. So until both hands are on the ball and they’re officially locked into a triple threat, their number of steps beforehand is literally irrelevant.
This play is entirely legal and has been for awhile now. I can’t believe this still needs to be explained every time it occurs.
Honestly, we gotta just call it a travel. Trying it urself it doesn’t even feel right
Brother if you “think” it’s legal to just stop dribbling and take 4 steps backwards 😭
Cool, I have no clue what relevancy or comparability your fast break example has, to a video of a dude essentially palming the ball and taking 4 steps back
The ball was not picked up yet, hence why it becomes legal to take “4 steps”.
Instead of being obtuse, just try to learn the rule. It’s honestly very simple and my comment explains it clearly, but you’re so busy being combative you refuse to read.
I mean I think we disagree on what picking up the ball means, cause I thought when the dude brings the ball to his hand and stopped dribbling, he picked it up, but clearly you define it… differently
Not trying to be obtuse, genuinely baffled at how you DON’T see the ball being picked up and then several steps being taken lol
At the time 2 hands get put on the ball, he’s in the middle of a left foot step backwards (that’s the gather step). Once gathered, he takes two steps backwards after the gather step (the final right-left hop)
That is textbook clean according to the NBA rulebook.
I think you’re getting confused because the 2-3 steps that occur after his final dribble but before picking up his dribble.
If Kobe or Jordan pulled this shit, they would have averaged 5+ more points per game given the extra spacing they would get from such a “step back”.
So ridiculous.
That moment when “steps back 3” isn’t a typo.
When the ball is live? As many as he likes
Yeah. Too many people count all the steps since the last dribble. He finally actually grabs the ball in between the final step-back and landing with 2 feet behind the line. 100% legal
Agree, but there’s a percentage of people who don’t care if it’s legal they just care how they feel about it
Also a percentage of people who know this is legal but think the gather rule sucks and this being legal sucks, and will downvote in anger. I wont downvote in anger, but I do think the gather rules fuckin suck.
This isn’t the gather rule though, this is just dribbling
When you watch a player stutter step while sizing a defender up, it’s the same rule that makes this legal
You know ball.
I constantly try to explain this on Reddit but get downvoted almost everytime.
The rules surrounding dribbling and traveling legitimately aren’t confusing if you actually read/know them. People constantly try to act like there’s a million rules and loopholes but it’s just not the case. Almost every single time one of these gets posted it’s very clear cut whether it’s a travel or not, but everyone acts incredulous about it.
Keep fighting the good fight.
The only real gather rule is for fouls. Gathering the ball is just what they call it when you can’t legally dribble anymore. It’s like people saying the NBA gets a 0 step that’s free as some sort of ref charity work or something
8 step stepback. This league is so unserious.
dudes special
too bad Maxey dropped 0 points with 0 defense as usual
hes been so bad this 2nd half of year its insane
i respect him, i like him, i just cant stand his actual game cause he cant pass, he can shoot you in a game we should lose but shoot you out of any game we should win
Just not a smart player in any way, we gotta be real about this, just cause hes a nice guy doesnt matter.
You’re crazy, he’s having a bad game but he’s been great this season. Finger might be bothering him.
STop it
He played great 1st half to get a All star big
hes been literally awful ever since
Even look at his percentages, hes missing like crazy for months but thats besides point, his defense is awful and he is worst passing PG ever
Hes actually not crazy… His April is better in 3 games before tonight but his Feb and march he was pretty bad. He is still scoring but instead of shooting like 48pct and 44 pct from 3 he is shooting 42 percent from the field and 32 from 3 which is not good at all.
Isnt he leading in minutes😭😭 nurse is running him to the ground
Don’t respond to the trolls, this guys whole personality is to spam this stuff
Maxey carried the 76ers until he got injured, he was their best player
Duality of Embiid:
The comments on the first video said it’s so over and it must suck having him on the team when he got hobbled off a crossover
The literal next highlight I see of him is having 20 by half in that same game
What happened to the game I loved
Dude took 20 steps
We can’t talk friend, Bub does the Harden step back once a game
Call it on him too. Shits wack
insane travel lmao
You must not have been watching the nba in 2018
If I’m not mistaken it’s not a travel until he takes three steps after he grabs the ball with both hands. Didn’t look like that happened here.
I think the definition of a travel changes day to day
No I’m pretty sure it’s always legal if you haven’t gathered yet
What do you mean by “gather”?
Player can’t legally continue dribbling at that moment. Hand under the ball or two hands on the ball.
Yeah but the issue with this is carries are never called. The gather plus carry combo has made it almost impossible to guard
I was trying to make a joke that a gather is completely arbitrary too 😅
It’s clearly defined, they just don’t call it
No one knows what it means but it’s provocative
absolutely a travel
He didn’t take three steps after gathering the ball with two hands though, he took two.
he gathered the ball and then took like 4 steps afterward
He did not, the ball was in one hand until right before his last two steps.
so it’s a carry then? cause he had his hand under the ball. it wasn’t a live dribble. even at the moment when he brought the ball from one hand to two he still took like 3-4 steps lmao
Nowhere in this replay can we see if the hand is completely under the ball before the gather with two hands.
Maybe I’m just stupid and don’t understand the rules. But if someone can palm the ball, can’t they literally just run with the ball then…? As long as their hand is not completely under the ball?
So the rule is the ball has to be on the way up and during this you can, in theory, take an unlimited amount of steps. But if you palm the ball that counts as a gather, which would be up to interpretation by the ref.
My man you can just admit when a player on your team gets away with an 8 step travel. Nothing bad will happen.
Except I know the rules of basketball, and a travel didn’t happen lol.
He traveled before the step back, and then took an additional 4 steps. You can know the rules and still refuse to watch the replay.
Or you’re not blind or in denial. In which case the only answer at that point is you have no clue what you’re talking about.
I’m a Celtics/Pacers fan and hate the 76ers and this is not a travel as long as his left hand wasn’t under the ball before the last step-back. If at any point he can put the ball back on the floor, the steps don’t count toward traveling and it’s reffed similarly to jump stops or running on a fast break.
Travel clear as day. You never hooped before?
Except it isn’t clear as day because a travel didn’t happen here. Blame the game for having no step rules when the ball in one hand and not under the ball. The steps occurred before the gather and then Embiid took two steps. It’s legal in today’s nba.
It’s a travel anywhere else. NBA doesn’t call it to make it more exciting but it’s bullshit
The NBA’s godawful gather rules don’t reflect the travel rules at every other level of basketball, so unless you’ve played in the NBA, your prior hooping experience doesn’t matter.
You said it. It’s a travel in basketball. NBA made it a joke
If Maxey wants to do fucking anything that would be cool
Is Wemby injured?
He collided with Paul George and now something is up with his shoulder. He’s been wincing nonstop after that and has gone to the locker room twice before halftime ugh
Damn
Hook him up with that monstrous BMilly wrap
Oh nooo not my boy 😭. That’s my personal face of the league. I want him at 100% for the playoffs
he and paul george collided and he looked banged up. was taken out shortly before the half but wasn’t ruled out yet i don’t think
Naw just a little hurt. He’ll be back tho.
He’s done for the season 😭
19 mins played is the most impressive part
they can’t make me hate you Jameskola Hardenic
Embiidivic still out there trying, played 40 minutes tonight.
Who’s this Embiidivic fellow he sounds like an upstanding guy with class
Did he just twinkle toes that step back 3?
That’s a fucking travel and I’m sick of it
Travel
This kind of stuff is why everyone clowns on modern NBA.
I wonder where he would be ranked all time if he could’ve stayed healthy
Man I count like 5 steps after picking the ball up
Finals Preview in an alternate reality
OK EMBIIIID 🔥
Wemby knew Embiid got him and feigned defense.
u/nba just casually putting this travel as a highlight
That’s an MVP
That’s at least 5 steps
Steps back
Welp, He’s across the Delaware River in New Jersey now.
Wonder if he’s gonna fuck his team over in the playoffs.
“Defense is just as important as offense in the modern NBA” mfs been taking some Ls lately
Fuck Paul George
Paul George has 13 as well
Also injured Wemby’s shoulder and took him out the game, nice play
That was honestly just a basketball play. Both guys going for the ball. Can’t really be mad at PG for that one.
Grabbed the shoulder for what
Wemby is literally in this play. He has 17 at the half. Relax
He is in, but he is clearly not OK. More than likely trying to hit his minutes to stay active for awards.
He’s taken out after 15 mins
that was a normal basketball play, pg didnt do anything wrong
He took one of the biggest stars out. Adam Silver is crying RN. Two cash cows gone
Normal basketball play to grab a shoulder to stop a fastbreak
He literally hit the ball trying to get a steal
if you think he tried to hurt him then you can die on that hill. Unfortunate outcome but wasnt even reviewed. Normal play.
Nope use your eyes
I used to play like Paul George
Yeah injure other players and take drugs right
Bro is obsessed
Obsessed with drugs and podcast
FUCK DRUGGIE P
