Chets not really “injury prone” tbf. Both his injuries have been freak bone injuries, nothing soft tissue related which is what becomes a recurring problem

Paolo is completely useless without the ball though, idk how they’d even deploy him. Giddey is similarly a solid player who’s useless without the ball and they shipped him out because they have no room or need for that.

This year’s draft is better, much better. 

I’m speaking purely as prospects, not thinking with ²⁰⁄₂₀ hindsight (as 2022 would be looked down upon a bit with Smith and now Paolo underperforming). Peterson and Dybantsa are both better prospects than anyone in 2022. The class is also much deeper. Much deeper. The guard class blows out the 2022 class. 

But you’re right in the sense there is a top 3 tier, although even with that 2022 was more even with the top 3 than this year’s (you really don’t see anyone have Boozer at 1). 

JDub, Chet and Duren are all great second to third options though.

“He isn’t in his prime yet” He been in his fourth year and still doesn’t have positive impact like why would him turning 26 would suddenly cause to go from an Achor of a first option to suddenly an All star offensively.

His stats on the season are currently almost equal to Cooper Flagg, who was 18 at the start of the year. Funnily enough, they’re also nigh-identical to the stats he put up in his rookie year, albeit slightly more efficient.

No one is saying Paolo is a bad player. We are saying that he’s been very disappointing and is not looking like the franchise player that he’s paid or expected to be.

Yes this is a short bad stretch. But before the previous good stretch was another bad stretch. That’s what this season has been.

Desperation is what kills so many rosters

I don’t think it’s that tough of a position. They still have a valuable group of players between Bane, Wagner, Black, Banchero, Suggs, and Da Silva. And players like Mo Wagner, Carter, and Goga probably have some positive value.

They just aren’t healthy and are an atrocious fit with each other. I think they could flip some players for better fits and get a creative coach and be pretty good.

Why did you think the Pistons would take the leap though? Just on Cade becoming a top 5 player? Or did you foresee Duren becoming an all star level guy?

Yeah. People talk like we have nowhere to go but theres some obvious moves to be made first before getting off of Paolo.

It’s the injury and the failure to get back into shape. He was explosive his first two years.

Had a great start too last season too with a 50 pointer in one of those first few. His strength was that he had a very fast first step that got him around basically everyone on the perimeter by the time he even put the ball on the ground.. He was basically always doubled on the outside because of it.

After returning from injury after a few months last season the first step was totally gone. It sorta came back towards the end of last year. Then he hurt his core again and missed a lot of time this year. Now he’s been back for months and he’s still a slug. Teams have realized and he no longer gets doubled. He gets the ball on the perimeter and you can see him gazing to the basket trying to figure out how to get there and he just can’t anymore. He’s not a great ball handler so his speed/agility was very important to get him there.

If he doesn’t figure out how to get that back he’s cooked. But ultimately, he’s in year 4, he’s got to figure out how to do more things than just step around people because that was going to go away regardless as he aged. he’s a better playmaker but that’s it.

That’s more so Scottie Barnes than Paolo. Paolo might lowkey be best served as a third or fourth option offensively, with his role still mainly being focused on that aspect instead of defense.

Bro he’s 23. For sure he’ll definitely never be enough as a first option, but he can definitely clean up his game enough to take on a lesser role.

He’s been running in place for about 3 seasons now. Magic would be smart to move him to a team desperate for talent like Kings/Pelicans/Nets.

God forbid a 23 year old isn’t a finished product yet…he is still an all star, productive player who gets the opposing teams primary focus every night. And had led a team to competitive seasons every year.
