Yes, going into the season there was a ton of online backlash about his MVP and an assumption that he could never win another one. He was so good/dominant that he was pretty unanimously considered the runaway frontrunner for a second one within a few months.

People at the time recognized this, but that context to his numbers has been lost over time.
