I was definitely loud in my criticism of ‘CharlesGPT’ to begin this season. Even then, I never wanted him fired. I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who did tbh. For all his perceived shortcomings at the time (most of which can be chalked up to young first time HC), the culture he’s built is the best we’ve had in Charlotte. He’s also got dudes locked in on defense. We may not have greatest defenders on paper but we are greater than the sum of our parts defensively. That’s a testament to Charles Lee’s coaching and ability to get buy in.

Lee has looked much better with 3 of the game’s best shooters all healthy and shooting the lights out.

The first 100+ games of his tenure, he looked in over his head. Sure, lots of injuries played a part in that, but it looks like he just has his system and is going to play it regardless, without adapting to the personnel he has. With this unit, it works and I’m happy with it.

I still have a lot of hang-ups with our offense especially when Melo hits the bench, but he’s helped with the culture and defense as well, there’s no way this roster should be average defensively.

Also something fans who aren’t watching a ton of Hornets games may not realize- there’s a very good chance Lee was being instructed to tank early this season. Some of the late game decisions and lineup choices can only be described as self-sabotage (or complete idiocy), and he’s not doing any of that anymore.

I was definitely in the camp of “this guy just isn’t the guy.” Looking back I think a lot of that obviously had to do with our team’s inability to stay healthy, and him being inflexible with the offense and still trying to run the sets we run today with G-Leaguers.

I’m 100% bought in now but not just because we’re winning. He makes every possession count and is very smart about how and when he uses timeouts and challenges. He knows when to go from stoic on the sideline to needing to be restrained. The players seem to both love and respect him. Idk what else anyone could need to see.

The buy-in from the bench has been incredible. I think we have 10 guys who can give us quality minutes in the playoffs. Obviously the big headlines have been about the big 3, but our bench has been a big part of our run. There’s no way to game plan for us when everyone is cooking.

That’ll be tough with inexperience but they can win a series or 2 no doubt

This team hasn’t played enough games that are close in the end and is learning how to handle those on the fly. I can’t really see us beating anyone in the 1st round outside of New York, with maybe an outside chance to beat Detroit if Cade is out.
